Kaida glanced around as she edged out of the den. It was still in the wee hours of the morning and her family was all asleep. She stopped by Liulfr on her way out and nosed the top of his head while he slept. His ears flicked slightly in his sleep but otherwise he didn't move. He had apparently worn himself out and now slept peacefully. She smiled secretly to herself. Her brother was safe for now and that was really all the mattered. She slipped outside and into the cool morning air. She made sure to be silent as she slipped away. Least she wake one of her family and get stuck at home.

Once she was far enough away she broke out into a run. Her feet hardly touching the ground she ran so hard and fast. She loved the feeling of the wind in her fur. A true sense of freedom and peace descended over her when she ran. Eventually she slowed and came to a stop. She stood atop a ridge looking out over the lands. She stood and watched the deathly silence before the sun came up descending over the forest. Slowly the first rays of sun slipped over the horizon. Kaida sat watching, waiting.

It had been a night of restless dreams and disturbing nightmares. More and more lately he'd dreamed of his parents, of their glares, stares, and clear horror at him when he'd commited what apparently was the ultimate sin, to them anyway. He had woken himself several times, whimpering like the overgrown pup he'd been when they'd driven him from the pack. After the third waking in this manner, he'd gotten up with a snarl and begun to pace through the night.

Occasionally he ran, but most times he merely strode through the packlands, his direction changing randomly as he mentally stormed through his feelings. They'd had no right! He was family! Who did he have but them? This pack was the only 'family' he had now, but they were of no blood relation, save perhaps the thirst for blood. He bared his fangs and snarled in the night air, sending swirls of his breath to curl and twist behind him. He still had his revenge to mete out. He was sure the time was coming.

But the lack of revenge was not what had troubled his dreams. It was family. Meeting one of the half-grown wolves that had been born right here in this territory had brought this issue under his skin. He had no family. No blood-relatives to rely upon. He supposed that Kiara was like a mother to him now, with how she'd nurtured his abilities, honed his talents, drove him to succeed. Was that was a mother was supposed to do? He simply didn't know, but surely that was as close to a mother as he'd have now and ever more.

Somewhere deep inside, though, this troubled him greatly. One should have family. One should have parents, siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, shouldn't they? Yet he did not. They'd cast him out, driven him away, disowned him. He broke into a run beneath the trees, unaware beneath their shadows of the nearness of the break of day. He'd spent most of the night, pacing out his troubles, and now he suddenly burst from the treeline, met by brigthness in the sky and a figure silhouetted against the first gleams of sunshine. He skidded to a halt some distance behind her, seeing the rising sun beyond her, squinting to make out who this was intruding upon his alone time.

"Who are you?" he demanded gruffly, covering any sense of dismay or startlement by falling back on a more aggressive greeting than he might otherwise have used. After all, he couldn't see who she was, and the wind was blowing the wrong direction. Could this be an intruder? His ruff began to rise, though a growl was as yet unformed in his throat as he braced for a reply.

Kaida hadn't thought anything of the almost distant sounds behind her. She didn't find them worrisome they weren't aggressive noises. At least they weren't until a voice broke her quiet concentration. She slowly turned her head to look over her shoulder at the male that now stood behind her. She was silent for a long moment the sun illuminating and dancing off her white patches of fur. Once she was sure he was from her pack lands she spoke.

“Kaida.” She stated and turned back towards the sun feeling that answer alone should suffice. Though somewhere in the back of her mind she knew it wouldn’t. She was silent for long moments again before finally clearing up her earlier meaning. “Daughter of the blood shaman Haemon and Raelin. From the pack Reign of Terror.” There was no pride in her words as she spoke. Instead it almost seemed like it took a great effort for her to bother telling him at all.

“And might I inquire as to whom it is that breaks the silence of the morning with their harsh greetings?” She asked her voice never wavering from its calm even tone. She never turned to look at him and despite the fact that he could possibly take her in a fight she seemed completely at peace with the situation. A sense of serenity and calm hung in the air around her even as turmoil seemed to cling to the others mind. It was mere illusion of course. Kaida’s mind was never truly at peace. Not with the constant thoughts of her eldest brothers antics and the way he acted. The way he was proving to be much more trouble then he needed to be. He hung as a dark shadow in her mind always but there was no reason to let it show on the surface. It was a weakness, she must appear as nothing but perfect on the outside.

Yet another child of the shaman? Good grief, they were everywhere nowadays. He slanted his ears in near exasperation. He had no intention of becoming a babysitter for these mere pups, barely grown beyond their milk teeth. Or at least, that was the way he'd made himself think of this she-wolf's sister. She had been all innosence and flowers, sunshine without clouds. There definitely was something different about this one, though. Kaida, was it? He huffed through his nose at her flat tones. Unnatural.

"I am Khorrigan, of the pack Reign of Terror as well," he answered her, letting his voice settle into the deeper tones that had come with adulthood. His chest was out, chin held high, and he paced forward confidently. He was quite curious as to how this daughter compared with the other one he'd met. He drew up next to her and gazed at her closely. Her coat was much darker, and her aura was much calmer, closed off. His nose quivered as he caught her scent on a shift of breeze. The glory of the sunrise was of no concern to him, only of note for how it caught on her fur.

He mulled her for a time in the silence that only extended just beyond their paws. In the forest behind them, and in the lands below their perch, the world stirred noisily. But here in this place and in this moment, quiet reigned. He broke it, but this time kept his voice softer, a defrence to her apparent desire for peaceful tones. "You are out early, and far from the dens." It was both statement and question. What was she doing here at his time of day? He felt the stirrings to be more dominant than he was, but also felt strangely muted and drawn by this strange young wolf.

These daughters of the blood shaman were outright weird, he decided privately.

"It is a pleasure to meet your lord Khorrigan." She spoke with a formal and soft tone. Seeming to simply follow the traditional greeting for no other reason than because she should. As if it held no real importance, as if he himself held no real importance to her. But then why should he? It didn't matter.

At his statement that held a questioning intent she looked over at him. Her garnet taking him in carefully, as if judging him on many different levels none of which anyone could even begin to guess at. Her eyes didn't waver and she didn't seem to fear him. As if she had accepted something and this entire meeting was predetermined in her mind. It wasn't of course, she had had no idea he was going to show up and she had no idea how this was going to end. However it didn't stop the strange feeling like she had already known, or maybe already accepted that outcome of this meeting.

Either way he apparently passed whatever unknown test he had been taking in her eyes. For when she finally looked away she spoke in the same soft and flowing tones with dark undertones, almost like the breeze before a raging storm. "I enjoy watching the sunrise. This is my alone time, my quiet and contemplative time. One of the few chances I have to get away from my family and escape their eyes. My chance to rest completely and organize the information I have gathered over the previous day." She fell silent taking a slow suffering breath as if giving him this information was of great importance, like it was the key to something he didn't quite understand just yet. "As for being so far away from the dens, well it wouldn't do to be close to them now would it? The sun is best seen from this perch and I wouldn't want to linger and have my presence awaken those that wish to remain asleep." She finished finally and glanced over at him once more.

"Though, the same could be said for you. So far away from the dens, and awake so early?"
