"You are not old," she insisted with a little grin. "Just with the stubborness of one." Wasted years were not something she wanted to think about - so many days this pack could have spent as the strange family they were instead of apart and wandering. For a shaman of memories, she was sensitive about the concept of time, seeking refuge in the past rather than accepting the present or guessing at the future. "And I wouldn't talk so easily about mating either, not when you sit here alone~"

Here she might have injected a joke about jealousy, but this hardly was the time. "If you need help adjusting, talk to me or one of the less excitable ones. After all, you're not the only one acclimating to pack life again." And yet even then old habits died hard: the Pumpkin family still lived on the fringes of their society, staking a claim in the graveyard as was their strange wont and remaining reclusive save for Pumpkinhead's obsession with Gullwing; the water-inclined triad of half-siblings stayed close to their respective domains, incapable of stanidng each others' company for long; Spellbinder of course with her sharp temper and need to comment negatively on everything; even Ultima remained wry in character, refusing the existance of his wounds and the healer's treatment upon him. In a way, it was a comfort to know that not even time could erase some things.

"You know, Spell wasn't always that way," Oathkeeper added softly as she traced these thoughts backwards in time, and unbidden several memories of a pre-war beta filled her vision. "She was hardy, yes, and not one of the friendliest to approach, but I know that her heart was in the right place even if her words were not; don't think so ill of her. I will learn what nags at her so and see if it can't be helped. In the meantime while I'm here, do you need anything, Owa?"

Snorting with muted laughter, he agreed, he was purely guilty on many occasions of acting older than he was, but he believed that war could easily do that to anyone. It seemed to mentally add years upon ones life, aging them against their will. "Ah, I can't much see a femme finding a liking in a bitter thing like myself." he shrugged. He truly didn't see how a female would be attracted to him by anything more than his markings. He was like an old badger anymore, though he'd never admit it in a way he longed for someone to sit by his side and care for him and he could care for them back.

"Bah, I'll work my way in bit by bit." he said, many of the wolves were excitable in the pack, he didn't mind watching from afar, but he was far from worrying about getting himself caught up in the action. He liked his little den just outside of where everyone else resided with his willow tree. It brought him solace and piece of mind, few things truly did that for him and those that did he stuck to, though that was about any creatures nature was to stay close to the things that made them feel calm and safe.

He closed his eyes and nodded his head. Many had been very different before the war, including himself; war could change anyone. "War changes everyone Oath, some for the better, others for the worst." he said his face turning steely. Oath had been young when the war had broken out, she had been at least lucky enough to escape a fair bit of the war, but not all of it. It was impossible to escape it all unless once lived no where near where it all took place in a pack that had no connections, but usually, world would often still spread.

His gaze softened and he nudged Oath's head with a smile. "I am fine, I can't think of anything I need, though I'm quite used to being self-sufficient." he winked at her and wagged his tail. He wanted the push away the thoughts of war. They were haunting, bad memories he wish he could forget, but that wasn't going to happen. "I believe the true question is, if there is anything I can assist you with OathKeer?"

She chuckled and shook her head slightly. "Thank you, but no not right now," Oath replied. "Not unless you enjoy moving about the lands and checking up on each portion, prodding all manner of creatures along the way. Eventually the human village will need scouting as well, but that can be done last." Who knew what sort of changes they had undergone since the last time they had populated these lands? Had the war affected them as well? If so, it didn't seem like the humans had encroached upon their lands for some reason.

"But I wouldn't force you to come along if you have other things to do," Oathkeeper added, unsure of whether to wink back at him and then deciding to (the delay between words and the wink might have been odd or comical even). "Even if it was only laying beneath the tree. I'd hate to take you from a sweet spring dream after all."

A wry smile spread over the males maw and he shook his head. "No I believe I will take it upon myself to decline and rest here. It's been a while since I've really given myself the time to sit back and truly enjoy the pure beauty of a sweet spring day." he nodded his great head, the red cord rope dangling over his chest. He would have been glad to go along with Oath, but he wasn't quite full of enough energy to walk to outer reaches of their pack lands, he had lifted spirits for the day and wanted to keep them up and wearing himself out with a long walk, even with such wonderful company he knew he would likely only become a burden.

Looking around him he smiled a little wider at the green grass and the swaying of the tree, it was wonderful, a sight that made one glad they were alive to enjoy the day, to feel of warmth of the sun on their pelt and the sweet soft grass beneath their paws. "Laying here is what I wish to do today OathKeeper, it's a place of calm and an almost meditative aura surrounds it that gives me peace of mind. Thank you though Oath, maybe another day we shall walk together."
