My favorite old one is sonic 3 and knuckles. My favorite new one would probably be sonic unleashed for the day stages.

Although Sonic CD was outstanding and all the Game Gear games really flushed out the series, my favorite old Sonic game is likely to be Sonic 2. I really had to pressure myself to choose and I may change my mind in the near future.
Favorite new game is probably Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I know that it's kinda old, but I feel that it is the only one that makes you feel like you are watching a good movie when you play it. It has great flow and great side features that have kept me from ever getting bored with it.

Old Games: I actually like ALL the old sonic games. (I seriously can't think of a favorite among them.)
New Games: (I'm considering new games gamecube and wii) Out of most of them, I'd pick Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Love it because it seems so much more thoroughly done than the other new ones. (the didn't last as long in my book) But most of all.... I LOVED the Chao Garden feature!! The Chao are soo precious and the customizing options for them are nearly endless. heart
I only wish they could come up with a new Sonic Game that was very much like SA2 Battle.

My fav old one is Sonic CD. It was one epic freaking game. My favorite new one is Sonic Adventure 2 (That counts as new, right? I mean, it was released in the 2000's.)

My favorite old games are: Sonic the hedgehog 2, and Sonic 3D blast. My favorite new ones are: Sonic Heroes, Shadow the hedgehog, and Sonic and the Black Knight

My favorite old sonic game, believe it or not, was sonic spinball.
My favorite new sonic game is sonic chronicles. Im looking forward to sonic 4!
