The rest of the day after he'd Impressed had flashed by far too quickly for H'ex's tastes. He'd barely had time to wind down from the Hatching before Tialzieth was working him up again, chattering away about the things they'd seen or humming or otherwise making himself well acquainted with the host household.

When the bronze had finally settled in, too tired to move, did the stories truly begin. They were silent, for the most part, but the way they'd been looking at each other the family could tell they were lost in deep conversation - the expression of fond concentration every rider had for their dragon, regardless of origin. The family didn't mind it as they'd come to like Hivex and his stellar efforts to work with them in the fields. What more could you ask for? He was up before dawn, usually before all of them, and he knew how to coax the soils to produce well.

Nonetheless, Hivex had spent the night so lost in stories and conversation and wonder he'd not noticed the time and had fallen asleep with the bronze curled about him. It was only when a boot foot prodded him awake that he realized what had happened and sprang to his feet. It was a source of much entertainment for the family but they waited for the brief moments it took for the new rider to change and be ready.

The rest of the day, was far from smooth.

And so, it was getting towards the end of the day when Hivex was close to finishing his rounds of weeding that the bronze came galloping between the stalks of grain, sending their tops to whipping about crazily. Mine! Hivexmine! I found the Outside Dragons! Everyone was talking about them so I went to look! There's a gold among them. Isn't that amazing! There's four beautiful queens here now! He sounded so truly excited that Hivex couldn't help the smile as he stood to meet his partner's haphazard charge. Oh! And I went back to the River. The beaches were warm. Do you think we could go swimming, maybe? I wonder what's around the bend... The current was very strong. Wouldn't it be amazing if it was a great big fall of water? We should find out!

The rider chuckled audibly at that, wiping the sweat from his brow, I don't think there's a waterfall. We can go look after I'm done here, alright? How's your hide? Are you itchy anywhere?

The bronze nodded, determined to go investigate the 'fall' he was so sure of being there. Oh, and the golds too. Wouldn't it be lovely to see them all in one place? He rather hoped H'ex wouldn't mind seeing them. There were lots of shiny, pretty rocks along the shore of the river, maybe they'd like that. I'm not itchy. Just dusty, Mine. Are you itchy?

Hmn? He shook his head, No, not really. Once I wash I'll be fine.

Can I help? Tialzieth nosed forward, rearing up to curiously peer at the plants slung over a shoulder.

Sure! Just find the ones like this, he showed the dragon the appropriate plant and yanked it out of the ground, And pull it out. Be careful of the good stuff - that. And don't eat the weeds.

Okay! He turned away and immediately began ripping up the weeds with much enthusiasm, careful to avoid eating any.

The evening for L'in had been one of congratulation and commiseration. His mother, catching her son's almost shell-shocked expression, had enforced a rule of sitting down and taking it easy for awhile, even if her son insisted on working at his wheel and finishing the piece that had been abandoned when the call for the Hatching had gone out -- and Laseth had been more than pleased with herself, wandering contentedly about the house with her wings pulled in tightly.

Mine, Laseth had said with a little happy thrum, turning eyes that whirled a lovely blue up to her boy, your home reminds me of my shell. It is small and dark and warm.

The wave of ensuing affection had made L'in close his eyes, a slow sweet smile on his face... and put his thumb through the thin wall of his pot. Wet clay had spattered everywhere, including across Laseth's green nose, setting the dragonet to sneezing and sputtering in puzzlement.

Both of L'in's parents had laughed heartily, resulting in a deep blush settling across their son's face, and telling him to go and get acquainted with his. Work would wait. So he did, settling in and learning the places that Laseth liked to be scratched or stroked. It was different, he decided, being close and touchy with one's dragon. He felt none of the fear that he usually felt touching others, since each time he stroked Laseth's hide, he was rewarded with a rush of joy from inside his head. It was, he had concluded, very, very nice.

He had fallen asleep in his bed with a warm green head firmly butted against the small of his back and her tail curved across his feet. It was likely, he had thought at the time, that he should not spoil her to such treatment, but when he looked back and saw her eyes closed and felt the warm breath against the small of his back where his tunic had pulled up from the skin, he could not say anything.

Just like, L'in huffed internally, he could not say anything when, after they woke and Laseth's yawning maw of a belly was finally filled, she had insisted that they go and find her clutchmates. Did L'in know what order they had found theirs in? Could they talk to them in that order? Just so that Laseth would know she hadn't missed anything from the hatching, of course.

Agreeing to that, L'in had added the stipulation that she would have to wait until he had finished a few pots. After a bit of hemming and hawing, Laseth had agreed, but she had not made it pleasant for her rider.

Mine, you play with mud a lot, don't you? she had queried, and L'in could do nothing but look amused and bewildered all at once. You were even covered in mud when I found you. Can we go now?

So, giving up on the idea of finishing anything worthwhile today, L'in had let himself be dragged out. I hope you know where you are going, he thought in the direction of his lifemade as they moved toward the fields. He let her dictate the pace, and so it was a quick walk he was forced into.

We will not get lost, Laelinmine, Laseth responded, pleased with herself. I have you, and so we will never be lost.

It was not a comforting sentiment, and L'in was about to say so when he heard Laseth trumpet happily and rise onto her hind legs. Tialzieth! I know you are out here somewhere! I have questions for you! Her voice was a warm, almost impish singsong, a tone that L'in had not yet heard her use, but he was in agreement. He wanted to know anything she could wriggle out of her bronze clutchmate about his rider and the unfamiliar place from which they came.

Tialzieth's head perked at that, his gaze off in the distance - something had obviously caught his attention. A moment later, he dropped the weeds he'd pulled, abandoned the hole he'd been digging (goodness knew why) and ran off into the stalks of grain. Mine! Laseth is calling me! She has questions!

The bronzerider stopped in the middle of his chore when the bronze took off and called after him, "Hey! Why are you leaving!? Where are you going!?" It was the most he'd spoken aloud in a long time, abandoning the weeding in favour of pursuing his dragon. Really, the bronze took off entirely too much! Granted Hivex was often sorely tempted by the young dragon's antics - he had a love of adventure too, but the adventure came after his chores... leaving little time for them. And the bronze tended to ignore his need to eat and be oiled in favour of such adventures, prompting Hivex to go hunt him down and drag him off for the appropriate attentions that a hatchling needed.

Laseth! I am here. In the field. What questions do you have? Did you find something interesting!? He called brightly, only too happy to answer his sibling's query. Maybe she knew something he didn't... something he could investigate. Like the river, or the town, or something else entirely.
