Well. Alas, my 4 years with the fine art of band is ending. I can't take it! My BD is the BIGGEST jerk ever. Once Marching Season ended, everything turned negative To a point where I couldnt stand the sound of my own instrument. (clarinet) One time, I missed a rehearsal and my BD had kids call me (7 times) To find out why I'm not there. Its ridiculous. & When I did go to a rehearsal, I was yelled at For having Tea! (which I needed for my laringitis, which was why i missed a rehearsal) GOSH!!!

My BD's terrible, too, but I'm going to stick it out next year because I have little other leadership and involvement outside of band, and colleges tend to like long-term involvement.
I'm sorry to hear your woes though. sad Having a bad BD gets so stressful!

It would've been easier to just call ahead and tell your BD (or someone else to pass it on) why you were missing that time. It wasn't uncommon for our BD to have people call us if we were missing.

well it's ones choice to quit band... even if my bd was a jerk (which he's not) i would quit band too, but i would continue to practice on my own. And maybe find some community band to join ...with a better director .

Sorry you're bd is a jerk. You can always join a orchestra instead of being in band at school. My bd doesn't even really ask where you were when you miss rehearsal.

Wowzers, that sounds tough. I know that my BD can get a bit cranky, too, but it's very tolerable. I agree with Deaf_Silver, though. You should have tried to tell someone, whether it had been your BD or another member of the band, and told them you weren't going to be there. I can understand being sick, but you do have parents to call or thumbs to text someone. Well, I suppose that it's your decision. I wish you the best.
