I have two friends with birthdays coming up.
I love to bake and I was thinking of baking mini cakes for each of them.
I have a ton of cupcake recipes and I could modify some of them to make cakes I suppose...
But does anyone have a fantastic cake recipe? I wanted to ask real people before searching through online recipes.

Also for discussion:
+Do you bake/cook?
+Any favorite recipes?
+Anything you wish you could make?

Apologies in advance to people using the "Latest Topics" page to find a serious debate... XD

"The cake is lie!"

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Anyway, I think pie is better. Make them a birthday pie!

D: Most of the people who will be there are big video game nerds.
So I think I shall allow them three Portal references each.
First person to reach four gets locked in a room with "Still Alive" playing on a loop for 6+ hours as an example to the others...

I bake pies, Pecan is my favorite. It's easy to make and tastes amazing.

I've never been a cake person.

My maternal grandmother had a recipe called wacky cake. My sister made it for Mom's b-day of '09(or was it Mother's Day?) and Mom knew it by smell. Brought back so many fond memories for her. It's a pretty yummy cake, too.

*space saved for recipe* Now where is that recipe box?

Oh man, I love Red velvet too. Pineapple upside down cake is good. Hm... We haven't made a cake in a while though.

I like this onehttp://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Red-Velvet-Cake-with-Raspberries-and-Blueberries-108256
but I just like the cake recipe.

The only issue is the way that buttermilk comes in is way too big. You may want to make pancakes, or black and white cookies ,or something else with it to use it up.

Another idea would be to go to the library and get Joy of Cooking. I thought it was like the number one selling cookbook or something but I always like the recipes in it.

I am a Pastry Cook so I bake for a living -_ -. I hope I could be of some help.

I usually add a teaspoon of mixed spice to my chocolate cake, and it goes down a treat.

...all this talk of pie is making me want to get a custard blueberry and apple pie from Jesters, mmmm pie, my mood food.

My husband LOVES Chocolate mayonnaise cake.....

Now before everyone gets all "EWWWW GROSS!" as I did when I first heard of it... Let me tell you that it really does taste great.

You substitute mayonnaise (not salad dressing) for the eggs, and it makes the cake super moist. You can't tell that mayo was used. If I understand correctly, mayo became a popular substitute for eggs during WWII because of rationing. So it really isn't all that weird.

I'll find the recipe I have and put it up for you if you like. If you like rich, moist chocolate cakes, then I know you will like this one.
