NOTE* This is a discussion, not a place to rag on everyone else's bad handwriting. Unless you wanna rag on your own bad handwriting. That's fine with me. Oh and doctors too...omg...doctor handwriting O_o (lol jk)

It seems like handwriting from 20-500 years ago is so beautiful. An art form in its own right. Now, it seems like handwriting is so boring and even illegible in some cases. Why? I'm just curious.

I do not know why handwriting is fading. It is an amazing art form. I do practice, mostly just to write my own signature. But I am truly surprised on how many people can't even do that. Usually it's just a squiggle. When handwriting done correctly it is gorgeous. However it appears to be sadly fading away in to time. However, handwriting isn't the only art form vanishing. I think it may be do to, to much time spent in front of TV or computers, and the new forms of media that are erasing some of the old forms.

I agree. I don't see many painters anymore(as an example). I mean all of the ones that I have met or seen are older. Of course there are always those who will do it, but it isn't as common a practice. I myself love to draw, but I have to say that my own handwriting is going downhill now that I type a lot... *goes to find calligraphy web-sites*

Yes, I believe that good handwriting is dying. Last June was my graduation and when I looked at my Diploma to see four signatures that a kid had done. Only one of the five was great. Two of the four are doctors (one is a neurosurgery). You would think that if they can sew up someone that they can sign a paper.
I've been practing Calligraphy since Sleeping Beauty (I loved that film same went for Snow White and Beauty and the Beast). It is really an amazing art form since the medival times and is barely reconginze. It really funny when you write in Calligraphy for a paper or note and give it to them and that they have to ask you what it saids.
