This colossal tower of a man seems more like a giant serpent coiled inside human flesh. His arms and face show fresh and deep scars that stand out like mismatched scales on his extremely fair skin. A pair of small cold protruding eyes oversee a nose that has been smashed almost flat from repeated injury.
Spiker is a self describe "Dungeon Exhumation Expert" or basically a mercenary who's really good at being the point man for cramped tunnel fighting. Clearing mines, catacombs, and caverns of their inhabitants appeals to him on many levels. It provides him an outlet for his robust visible violent streak without waking up in the stocks with no memory of how he got there. Spiker also enjoys the rewards for such dangerous work, especially if he is the only survivor and can claim it all. Despite his obvious nature Spiker is intelligent and knows that some people have more value then stand-ins for chopping posts, especially when they improve his own chances of surviving.
It was during one his frequent trips to the pillory that Spiker was drafted into a company of mercenaries who had been hired exterminate a clan of kobolds that had infested a mine in the nearby mountains. During the journey Spiker was thought the basics of arms and armor, along with insights into dungeon fighting and tactics. The retaking of the mine went well for the mercenaries until the fighting took them into the Underdark after the settlement of the kobolds. The little creatures were slaughtered to the last but as the band was preparing to return to the surface they were ambushed by raiding party of Duergar. In the frantic running battle that followed, Spiker was left for dead in the first skirmish.
Spiker claims that he was guided back to life and the surface by an elusive blood colored bay with twinkling starlit eyes. He has only vague memories of the journey, eating bitter mosses, drinking gritty mineral heavy water, and endless crawling. His only clear moment was exiting the mine and finding the remaining members of the mercenary band dead from either exposure or poison. He salvaged the best of their equipment and hobbled his way back to civilization.
