The gold paused along the front row, tail swishing behind her. Where was Hers? Gone? No no, she was here somewhere. Perhaps she just couldn't see her? Balancing herself on her tail, the dragon stood up on her hind legs, peering over the crowd in an effort to find the one she was looking for. Where oh where was—oh! Aha!

Ah! Jadamirei! Come quickly! Your Geminith needs to speak with her clutchmates. They are very sad.

Nalina gave a small sniff, before both she and her dragon turned their attention to the dud egg. Sojayeth gave the orange thing a swift nudge with her nose, however nothing happened. A real dud then.

Satisfied, the woman turned her attention back to the newly Impressed riders. "Finish feeding your dragons and then find suitable lodgings for them! Riders will assist anyone who doesn't know the basics of dragon care." Judging by her tone, anyone who didn't know that was clearly not worth her time. "Meal times have not changed. Your time is your own today, however starting tomorrow you will be expected to continue you work. That is all. You are dismissed."

The Hatching was officially over.

It took a moment for Jadamirei to realize that someone had called her name. Some... one? Her hands were shaking as she took a few steps forward, pushing through the thinning crowd towards her...

Geminith. The dragonet told her, patiently. Now please hurry, Jadamirei, I am hungry and it has been a sad day.

The former Telgar Candidate moved closer to her companion as Nalina dispersed the crowd with a sniff. "Well, if you are hungry, come on." Jadamirei said softly, and guided the dragonet towards the food.

If she'd been able to bounce on her way, Geminith would have. But her wings were big, and she wasn't used to bouncing. Still, she managed to flail her way over to her siblings and join them in the feeding.

Somehow amidst all the distress, L'in had stumbled, with Laseth in tow, toward the feeding table, but suddenly the green froze in her tracks, turning around to look at the handsome queen, her eyes whirling bright blue.

Our queen, said the fierce little green with a thrum of pleasure, My clutchmate has chosen!

What? came L'in's belated thought. He was too preoccupied, despite himself, with his head full of Laseth and her deceased twin, to have noticed much. One smudged clay-covered sleeve rubbed tears from his cheeks as he looked in their direction. Oh! He ahemed quietly, looking over at B'hec and the other Ghenzan weyrlings -- like himself, he realized with a little thrill -- to smile weakly, his cheeks still streaked with tears and his eyes rimmed in red. The instruction of Nalina seemed to hit almost deaf ears.

Miiiiine, crooned Laseth, patiently, nosing against L'in, I am extremely hungry... please stop being sad so that we can eat!

Oh! Hastily, L'in reached out, taking hold of meat to cut for Laseth. Of course... I am so sorry, he replied contritely, ducking his head to hide behind his bangs again.

A wave of possessive affection rolled over him, and Laseth replied as she devoured the offering with gusto, All is well. Look! Do you see that great trembling bronze there? We should go and bother Wilth when we have eaten. Perhaps he knows something we don't! And Dith! All of my clutchmates.

Rasken could feel the sweat on his palms as he joined the rest of the girls and boys of Ghenza on the shoreline. Even with his age, the smith certainly couldn't see any better over the heads of the taller candidates, but he tried his best not to think about it. As the hatching progressed he could shuffle towards one side and hopefully get a little closer. That was, of course, barring the fact that all the tall people weren't standing in the front. Life just wasn't fair sometimes.

With each cracking egg, the man tried to make his way closer and closer to the front. His progress was hindered every time he had to stop and apologize for stepping on a few toes. The screech of the Panda Egg green made him shiver, knowing full well what that signalled. An angry dragon or a dragon about to go between. It wasn't unusual, not at Ghenza anyways, but it still struck a chord in the Wrighter. But a dragon had to choose or die, and if it took the latter option then it wasn't fit for Ghenza.

By the time he made it to a spot where he could see, four of the dragons had hatched. By the looks of it, two bronzes to outsiders, a blue to Belhec and a third bronze to Shen. Well, that wasn't too bad, even if the choices of the first two were a bit strange. But it wasn't Rasken's place to say anything on the subject and so he dutifully kept his mouth shut. His interest perked instantly when the brown hatched, however that too didn't even give him the slightest glance.

'Don't get your hopes up now, boy,' he chastised himself as he folded his arms over his chest. 'You've got good talent as a Wrighter and you can be useful to Ghenza—'

Raskenmine, we need to move back.

The smith stopped dead as his thought process was interrupted. "I… I beg your pardon?" He said, looking around for the source of the voice. Could it… could it be? No, it wasn't possible! He'd just started talking himself out of it and now he was hearing voices and—

I was being serious. Come on, don't be a dimglow, we need to step away. The brown gently nudged his rider towards the feeding tables. Food would be nice as well, but safety comes first. We shall ensure that our clutchmates do not get themselves injured.

"Injured?" Rasken repeated dumbly as he allowed the dragon to usher him along. "Injured from what?"

At that point, the blue burst from his shell, practically screaming bloody murder.

Him, the brown clarified instantly, watching the blue with white eyes. Oh, but he has Impressed. Good good. It looks like no harm will come from him. I am Bisoitcoth. Now, can you feed me? I will need my strength if I am to watch my clutchmates.

The newly-Impressed brownrider spent the rest of the hatching in a daze, alternating between feeding his intelligent little charge and stroking his headknobs.

He was a dragonrider.
