But you present your opinions as fact!

1) I do? O_o I don't mean to.

He means that when you state an opinion, you say it as if it is absolute.
For example, if we argued on the existence of God, you would state that he DOES exist instead of you thinking he exists.
Opinions are fine and dandy but people have learned the big boys play with facts lately.
I do that mostly because I'm so sick of people being so unsure of everything (check out Taylor Mali's rant on it in my sig, you'll see what I mean), but even when I say 'in my opinion' it seems as though it comes across as I'm trying to state something as fact when I'm not.

There aren't always usuable facts in a religious debate. When I find facts that pertain to a discussion I use them, but I don't think there are a ton here.

Your not getting it here...
He is trying to say an opinion like "God exists" does not make a good argument even if you do say it is your opinion. You can say it is your opinion all you want but it wont do much. A debate needs something to work on, meaning something that can make common sense and something understandable. When you put your opinion in your argument with just your opinion, it will seem as though your trying to state it as fact.

I saw the video. Pretty much, it was saying speak your mind. Strange how he tried to use our young generation. No one cares for them. Let them watch Twilight for all I care. :
Anyway...
Even if you DO speak your mind, that doesn't mean people will believe it. In a debate, you want something believable BUT not by a preaching method, but more by a persuasive method. The man who stated the poem means that you can't say things like your unsure, opinions for example, but say things that WILL make sense to others.

Edit: Reason why people like me don't believe in God. Not enough facts.

I don't think I use my opinion as much as you think I do, even if I do, I don't think it's wrong to do so, especially in a topic that asks for opinions. I know facts mean more. I use them when it's a topic that involves facts. This isn't a topic in which facts really factor though, so... rolleyes
And you know, I don't really want to hear criticism, unless it's in a pm. If you really have a problem with how I debate, either pm me, deal, or ignore what I say. I don't really want to argue about my behavior in a topic though. stare

It's my generation. I kinda have to care.
And the 'man' was Taylor Mali, and he meant that people should having more of a conviction in their words. We shouldn't be apathetic, but be firm in whatever stance we take.

This topic doesn't call for facts! If you want facts, I can look up sites like Answers in Genesis, or refer you to some great writers like CS Lewis, and if you want proof, either look in places where it's likely you'll find it, or specifically ask for it. Otherwise, don't expect it when I never said I was gonna offer any.
And I'm also gonna say, don't expect absolute proof. There isn't any (except maybe God revealing Himself to you), or there wouldn't be room for debate.

Woah woah woah, no one is getting hostile so do not even ACT like it. PMs is not needed what-so-ever nor is that attitude.

As for my first paragraph, I was EXPLAINING what using an opinion as a fact is. This topic and why you use it is pretty much unrelated. If you want to take it up as to WHY this was said, either ask me or the original person who said this, which would be Ren.

It is one thing if a topic is asking for an opinion but it isn't the opinion itself we are getting at but HOW it is presented and in what topic. We aren't talking of talks just asking for opinions BUT all topics.
I would also like to point out that if you have an opinion in something such as this guild, mostly this debate guild, people expect a justification to your opinion and not just your opinion itself.

When did I EVER ask for facts? We are talking about the TOTAL of you posting, not just this topic. I only got involved when Ren pointed out the opinion topic and that is it. I never DID ask you for any facts. We are speaking in a term of how intelligent opinions should be made in a debate guild and how you sometimes post an opinion in a way where it seems factual to you.
( I don't need to look up an opinion of someone because if they want people to believe, they should GIVE them reason, not tell them to find it.)

I know, I just don't care for my generation. Let them rot if they wish to rot. XD
Nah, I exaggerate. But even so, I feel it is the youths' fault for lacking behind the world. Most are too ignorant to care for anything besides themselves and what revolves near them.

I know who the man is, I read the video title. However, I wanted to give a definition of what he was trying to say without just quoting what he said. :S

and finally, the first paragraph.
Do NOT get snippy with ME. I was confirming the post by another person and going into detail with it. Never have I said I have a problem with how you post nor was I criticizing it exactly. Point being, don't make this something it isn't.

Edit: If you REALLY want to get about the opinions on how I think you post, even though this isn't what I said at all above, then I think you DO use opinions as facts every now and then even if you don't mean to. An example is when you said God exists. Even if it is basic, you have said it and even if it is your opinion, you present it as if it were fact as Ren said. However, we aren't talking about MY opinion but justifying another's opinion.

Edit: I made a mistake.
REN did not start the actual topic but Lumanoty did.

Now then, posting to the actual topic, I believe that we are NOT damned mostly because it is is grouping.
It kind of does what they did in Noah's Ark, group most of the humans on the planet and drown them all.
When we speak of a damned race, we are still grouping humans which still wrong to do.

Besides, a race can't be damned if there is nothing to damn it, as I believe. Not to mention you need hell for damnation which most others also don't believe.

Are humans innately good or evil. Thats been on my mind lately. It seems to me that if I was innately evil then why is it so hard to corrupt me? Granted I have bad moments and personality quirks, but inside I'm a sweet kind teddy bear (that doesn't like to be hugged).

If I was born innately evil, I assume it be easy for me to be evil. I'm just the type of person that can't willingly hurt people. Perhaps, we're innately good, but pressured to be bad?

Neither. Humans are human. We do what we have to, to ensure our own survival.

In Medias Res IV
Dude, you can't use Mark Twain to validate the Bible.

The dude went to the Judaean desert and wrote a string of confused paragraphs about it in his travels.

This is like trying to validate the Bible because Madonna had that "like a virgin" song.

This!

And I don't believe humans are damned as a whole. You only become a sinner when you sin, not because you are born a human or a mortal.

are we more damned than other species?

i doubt it.

a wild stallion, or a male lion, will kill all the young males he can except those he fathers himself.

that seems damned nasty to me.

many fish eat their young.

nature is not innocent and pure, it is like we are, occasionally lovely and occasionally horrible.
