The 5'9 18-year-old sighed, looking through the shelves for a particular chicken pasta. Her bright pink hair was a thing to see, as well as her one-white, one-black set of eyes. Her skin was normal, as always, a pale tan. "Why can't Ava get it?" She's hurt, Miz," the gray-skinned catgirl reminded her caretaker. "Remember? Broke her arm when she was sparring with 'Ser. I think you forget that she does not, in fact, have the ability of healing like Mira and you do." "...I totally remembered that." "Of course you did," Umbra drawled lazily, in a matter oddly reminiscent of Draco Malfoy. With this, the metal bracelet on her arm began to loosen, and she looked devastated. "Miiiz!" she hissed, pushing her arm in the older girl's face. "You said the ward would need to be replaced next week, not right now!" (For those who hadn't noticed, Umbra's hair was about half-of-shoulder-length right now, about a tenth of the normal length.)
At that moment, an eleven-year-old petite black-haired girl looked utterly bored as she checked through boxes of cookies, offset by her slowly widening eyes. The hot pink bunny and cat perched on her shoulders, and a bracelet much the same as Umbra's began to glow a vibrant green. Oh, great, Mira thought to herself, another criminal? But this one's giving off something...different. Seems to be messing up Umbra's ward.

Maggie hardly noticed the bright pink hair, and looking at her, it wasn't (or rather, shouldn't) have been that big of a surprise. As though straight out of her own Disney movie, she wore a green ballgown, with a sweetheart neckline, and the skirt had a layer of purple tulle over it, her arms covered in the same soft purple tulle. The 20-something's red hair was up in a very fancy updo, several large curls bouncing around her shoulders and a delicate flower and pearl tiara crowned her hair. Although unseen, purple shoes could be heard clicking under her skirt.
Quite ungracefully, she was trying to reach some whole wheat pasta on the top shelf, just a few inches too short. She turned, to check on Caissa, and swore, watching the strange child start to sink (once again!) into the shopping cart's seat. Curse having a strange little light-child!
One hand reached, to try to pull the child up, while still on her tippy toes, reaching with the other hand for the box.
Much like any of her other endeavors involving any form of grace, she failed, most amazingly. Her hand passed completely through Caissa, while the other one managed to knock the entire stack of boxes. She fell backwards, the boxes landing around her, one falling onto her skirt.
Caissa cried happily, clapping her hands (although it barely made a sound), while Maggie picked herself up and placed one of the boxes in the cart.
"Okaaaay," she said airily, as though she hadn't just face planted. "What's next??" Her light-girl handed her a list that had been torn in half over an hour ago.

At that point, Umbra's bracelet flew completely off, and she cursed as her short hair began to quickly grow into something unmanageable. "Freak," she muttered, as the hair began to flow along her back. (Because each time she used the wards, her hair grew longer, and she'd been using them for about half a year now. That tripled the length of her hair, which was really, really, annoying to deal with.)
Thankfully, Mira noticed the intangible child, and hurried over to Maggie and Caissa-she'd dealt with ghosts before, intangible kids weren't much different, except for the fact that they were actually alive; so her bracelets that made ghosts solid could serve the same purpose here. Her bracelet was glowing a eye-hurting neon green. "Miss, excuse me? I-I might be able to help with your child. Was she a criminal too before this? It's just that she's breaking...ah, well, you have to see for yourself." She pointed over at Umbra, who was attempting to bundle up her fast-growing hair and failing miserably. "She uses wards to keep her hair short, and your child's presence...deactivated them."

The red-headed woman blinked at the direction that Mira was pointing to. It took her more than a moment to realize how fast the girl's hair was growing (and even then, she still seemed a bit confused).
"Oh, I see..." she said. She didn't.
"Mmn, Criminal," she repeated, the response neither confirming or denying. Maggie really was the worst person to talk too. She usually relied on other family members to pay attention and converse for her, but she had only brought Caissa with her on this shopping trip. Her head was almost always elsewhere, and today was no exception.
Finally seeming to realize something, she shook her head. "Oh, no need," she said to Mira. She pulled out a mirror from ...somewhere (she carried no bag, but there were many folds of fabric around her legs), and angled it under Caissa. The child started to move upwards, so that she appeared to be sitting in the cart seat again. "That's better," Maggie said, smiling.
Caissa scowled.

Mira looked a bit put-off by the odd woman (what was with that dress?!), but turned and walked back to selecting desserts, RoseQuartz leaping off her shoulder and presenting a bracelet to Umbra. The hair crisis was resolved...for now.
Meanwhile, Umbra looked to be having a silent laughing fit, ears shaking as she silently laughed like a maniac at whatever she thought was funny.

Caissa continued floating upwards, and deciding to take advantage of Maggie's inattention (she had turned back to the shelf, now trying to decide on a pasta sauce), pushed off from the cart, the light-girl somehow able to interact with objects, even though Maggie had been unable to touch her. She angled herself towards Umbra, and softly floated to the ground and landed, her feet loosing shape for a moment and then reforming again.
She padded over to the cat-girl and looked up at her, giving her a critical look.
Where had the hair gone? Her baby-mind was reeling.

As Caissa landed near Umbra, the second warding bracelet broke beyond repair, and Umbra's hair began to grow again. RoseQuartz took a look at the secretly-panicking girl and grabbed another bracelet, handing it to Caissa.
"Oh, did you make that dress yourself?" Mira decided to ask Maggie, looking at the quite lovely dress the other woman wore. The purple sleeves were something she'd like to look into...

Caissa took the bracelet in her hand and started to chew on it, no change seemed to come to her. She had always been able to solidify her hands for interacting with things and her feet, for walking.
Maggie nodded. "I make clothes," she said. It'd be more appropriate to say that she made costumes, but to the red-head, they were the same thing, and so she continued to call them 'clothes'.
She took a few steps towards Caissa and reached out an arm, trying to grab her back from Umbra. Naturally, and like always, her arm passed right through the girl. Maggie decided that whatever the bracelet should have done, it didn't quite work on Caissa.
It wasn't that big a deal, though. Maggie had found other ways to handle her small charge. Later on that day, they were going to go to a hall of mirrors, Maggie was curious how that'd affect her. She thought it'd be pretty funny.

"Interesting," Mira commented, before turning back to the cookies and selecting a fourth thing of Oreos. Umbra and Mizore moved to a farther shelf, and the second ward did work, as the gray-skinned girl's hair quickly grew short again.
Well, that was one adventure finished...or was it?
