Should we open WoG up like it used to be? As in, have everyone able to create their own classes as long as their class is approved?
Yes. The Bios will be reviewed by Truewind and Sey, so they will ENSURE that no crazy classes will come in.

I thought Truewind was in charge of Classes o_o;;;

And this is why I have a poll. Because I want people input.

As long as the Professions are flexible, spell lists and techniques are open to new submissions since our spell list creators are human and aren't so brilliant that they can think of everything I think that that sounds fine. It's what I was shooting for anyway...

I voted No.

This having to due with 'restrictions inspire better characters' train of thought. You know, the one everyone else has quoted.

Just backread and you have my explanation. Just throw it all together.

...huh.

...and here I'd thought I was going to be alone in my opinion. Glad I actually spoke up about it.

I voted no. Probably most of my reasons have been stated already.

I remember in the last WoG. Everyone, and I mean everyone, wanted to come up with some kind of crazy character or character class, and it got to the point where the world of Gaia didn't feel like the world of Gaia anymore. We had elves, porings, and god knows what else running around...and while these things are cool, they don't belong in something as structured as WoG is supposed to be. The fact that it seemed nearly half the population was doing something wacky made the whole thing seem like a big joke.

...even before my chickeneer character came along sweatdrop I think.

But, anyway, if you want to be a poop mage, why not just be a fire mage and use your fire magely abilities to hurl flaming feces at your enemy? Or be a wind mage, and transport the poop on air currents into the faces of your foes? Instead of just making up another class to force into the established world, it's more fun to work within the limits of another class to see if you can achieve the desired effect.

In light of a few things comming up I'm gonna say this:

If we can't do the restrictions right, we shouldn't do them at all. There's a thin line between what all of the no voters have stated, and coming up with techlists that pigeon hole the player.

Then maybe we should abolish tech lists. The talk I'm hearing now says its more of a general abilities listing at each level...

Only if you want to write them.

Do you want to write them?

I'm not writing ten different skill trees for ten different classes. I'm writing a skill progression for each class, and if you want to change it later, feel free to write a few classes yourself. xp

I'm busy, I'm going with simplicity. Besides... back to roots. This is how the classes were back when WoG began... we just have a lot more classes now than we used to.

So, yeah... you're welcome to do whatever you want to make the classes more 'open', as long as you don't expect me to be the one writing it. biggrin

I mean... seriously... people sign up to play a certain class and then complain when the abilities are geared towards the stereotype of that class? It's like signing up for a soccer team and complaining because you're not allowed to use your hands.
