"Muma I don wanna!" Lucy cried as her mother pulled her along by the wrist. It was time for Lucy to get a haircut if it was the last thing Mary did, today at least. Mary was far too busy to let something like a haircut stop her.

"There are sharp things and scary chairs and, and, and, and MONSTERS!!!" She broke out into tears much to Mary's chagrin. "Honey, it's just a haircut! You're hair is a mess!" But the tears kept raining down. Mary let go of Lucy's arm so that she could dab away at the tears with some kleenex she kept in her purse for occasions such as these.

Mary let out a sigh. Some days she wished that she had a daughter slightly less paranoid of the world, some days she even wishes she never went into that theatre. The whole situation and the whole day was becoming quite frazzling for Mary.

Then, Mary spied a tea shop, it was just what she needed. A nice relaxing tea, and Lucy liked it as well, so there was a possibility of calming her down enough to get her to agree to let some one take a few inches off of that head of hair.

"Lucy, how about this, we go into that nice little tea shop there, have some tea and then see how we feel? Sound good?" Lucy stopped crying and looked at her mother with her big brown eyes. "Tea shop?"

"Yes, where they serve drinks that help drive away the sickness monsters! Remember how I gave you green tea with lemon and honey when you were sick awhile ago? Well, that's what tea does! It drives away monsters!" Mary may have been playing into Lucy's paranoia and many of the therapists she had talked to had advised against that, but honestly? It was a hell of a lot easier.

"Monster be-gone juice?"

"Yes, monster be-gone juice."

"Let's go Muma!" Lucy grabbed her mother's hand and headed towards the tea shop.

Once they were in, Mary took a good look around, "Wow, it's nice in here, isn't Lucy?"

It wasn't a large building, but there was plenty of seating, separated into three different areas. The main area, which sat in front of the counter had about four large round tables, four chairs, all mismatched, but all comfy, around each. There was a large window across from the entrance that displayed a nice outdoor seating area, with less comfy chairs, but a nice garden atmosphere and a fire pit in the middle. Apparently this area was prepared for use after dark. The back area, which could not be seen from up front was a slightly darker room occasionally reserved for private parties. But right now it was open to the public.

Japi heard the sound of customers entering the little tea shop and spun around to greet them. To her surprise and pleasure, she knew exactly who they were. "Mary!" she waved from behind the cash register. "And Lucy!" She greeted both of them cheerfully. The area behind the cash register was large, with an espresso machine to one side, and a wall shelf filled with jars of tea leaves, each labeled with a nice handwritten and decorated sign giving the name of the tea on the other side wall. At the back, there was a small refrigerator and several blenders, along with an ice maker all sitting on the counter. The back wall itself was a large menu. The counter the cash register rested on was a large glass case filled with all kinds of sugary goodies, also labeled with the same decorated script. Several paper menus sat along the top of the counter.

The kitchen area could be glimpsed off to the side (the same side as the espresso machine), but it was hard to tell exactly what was inside without looking closer. From the menu, both on the back wall and the paper ones on the counter, it was evident that there were quite a few meal items here as well.

It was hard to tell what the theme of the decorations of this place were. There were lots of far eastern wall paintings and beautiful tapestries hanging from the walls, but it also had a vague middle-eastern feel to it. The music that played through the speakers had an almost Egyptian feel to them, though that would only last until the next day when Japi would pick another type of music to play. On Mardi Gras, she even played jazz.

Japi gave the two a moment to make their way over to the counter. The first time they'd met, it had been at the bookstore where Mary worked. Now, it was Japi's turn. "So, what'll ya have?" she asked them with a wide grin.

Mary had been looking at the eclectic-ness of the shop that she hadn't noticed Japi at the cash register. "Japi? God! I didn't see you there! This is your place?" Mary questioned, some what rhetorically. "I never did call you for that playdate did I?" Mary grimaced. She wasn't the greatest at remembering things, she needed a secretary or something.

Lucy let go of her mother's hand to go up to Japi's counter. [mediumvioletred]"Ms. Japi? Of the magic-arms-that-are-not-monsters? Is Erik here? I dun have any ponies for him, but, but it' sokay cause Muma wanted me to get a hair cut and I don't." Lucy went from happy, to a little upset to sulking all in the course of a couple sentences. She crossed her arms of her chest and pouted up at Mary.

"Anything calming that you can recommend?" Mary asked looking exasperated at how Lucy was acting.

Japi smiled brightly at the both of them while they spoke. Poor little Lucy was all in a huff. But a calming tea, they had that, and more.

"Well, we've got chamomile, and that's usually pretty calming, but I'd recommend," she turned to the wall of teas and selected one labeled 'Lady's Choice' and twisted off the top, offering it forward. "Smell it. Lady's Choice is for calming nerves and relaxing the mind and body. And it's also good for getting rid of cramps," she added. Of course she'd used it for that before.

Lucy pouted even more at being told she needed to calm down, even if it was in an obtuse way. She didn't need to be calmed down, she needed Mary to realize that she didn't need a hair cut! Hair that is almost reaching your bum isn't that long, and she liked it that way. "I dun want cama-camomile!" Lucy stumbled over the word, after all, it was a long and complicated one. "I want one that scares away monsters and makes Erik come!" She all but yelled while stopping her foot. Erik would understand her. He would understand that haircuts were silly and that the hair cutter was a witch who wanted to eat her. And Lucy didn't want to be eaten, not by tomato cans, not by that creepy old man with the cup which if you put anything in it, it will clearly steal your hand and then you would be stuck forever, and certainly not by hairdressers!

Mary couldn't help but blush by Lucy's tantrum. She had been doing that lately, getting angry instead of purely frightened out of her mind, Mary preferred the frightened to be honest. "Lucy!" She admonished, "We do not speak like that to others!" But putting Lucy's tantrum aside, as the young girl quieted down, Mary turned back to Japi.

"So sorry about that! She's been in a mood lately!" Mary sighed. "But Lady's Choice, I've never heard of that!" She leaned over to smell it, all the different scents came wafting up. "It smells delicious! And the whole getting rid of cramps thing is a plus! I don't know about you, but mine pummel my uterus like a son of a b***h!" Mary clamped down on her mouth as the swear came out, she had been working on that.

Lucy came out of her bad mood long enough to say, "Dollar in the swear jar!" and quickly reverted back to her unhappy state.

Mary just rolled her eyes, "What's in it?"

The rule with a child being rude was to ignore them, though she could have easily told Lucy that Erik was in the back room, she decided that it would only be complying to her fit. So, she decided to ignore her, just looking straight at Mary. It was an understanding gaze. Both Addy and Erik had been through that kind of stage already. With all this sound, Erik was bound to overhear anyway.

Ignoring the swear and Lucy's chastising, she answered Mary's question. "Lavender, Linden Flowers, Chamomile," she touched each of three fingers as she recited the ingredients, stressing 'chamomile' and pressing the corresponding finger further than the rest, since it was the plain tea she had offered first. "Rosemary, Valerian, and Clove," she recited the rest of the ingredients.

Erik did overhear the little girl in the front talking loudly. He recognized that voice. He left the brainteaser toys and little instruments Japi had brought for him to play with on the table and walked toward the corner past the back room's opening. And there he saw her. It was Lucy from before. She was with her mother and she was asking about him. He guessed that it made sense if Japi was there that she'd look for him. He'd been in a rotten mood lately and found it hard to maintain his brooding with her around the corner. She made him nervous. He hid back around the corner and moved back to what he was doing. Gotta look casual.

A small chuckle escaped Mary at Japi's pointed remark about chamomile tea, but it was a chuckle that also held the slight hysteria of an over-stressed mother dealing with a child of many needs. "I think we may need to get some of that! How much is it?"

Lucy couldn't help but feel slighted at the disregard for her wishes. She didn't want chamomile tea and that was it, no matter what other things were in it. It could be the work of witchcraft! All those weird ingredients mixing together was like a potion and witches made potions so therefore they were bad. In fact, maybe chamomile was a potion that would make a witch come and eat her! Lucy went from being sulky and shrill to suspicious and fearful in the time it took Mary to ask how much the tea was. To her, the walls took a slightly sinister appearance and she couldn't help but start to cower into Mary's side.

"Muma," she said in a quiet voice, "can, can, can we not get that?" She looked around her the shop, desperately looking for something that wasn't a monster. "Can Erik please come out, Ms Japi?" She asked while clutching at one of the holes in Mary's jeans. "He makes scary things go away."
