Oh, good I got the right number this time. The voice was familiar, trial and error a tad more difficult in a building this size than a smaller business.

Anyway, it's Jeff from security. You're not gonna believe this. Typing and button pushing could be heard from the cramped office, I was testing some of the first floor cameras, and - this is the good part - a fight breaks out in real time.

The clincher though is that none of the auto security systems are working in the lobby. Not even the alarms. So this is only getting passed around by word of mouth. I figured you should know... He stumbled trying to find a reason this call was logical, I figured you'd need to know because of your clearance.

Elysia sighed, leaning back in her hair. "s**t. Yeah, I needed to know that - thanks. I'll get right on it," she muttered, before hanging up on him.

She didn't pause to think about how he'd take that... but if he had called her, he could only have two motives.

One was that he could already guess that she was one of the "special" employees, and could, very possibly, kick the asses of whomever were down their threatening to wreck more of the building.

The other was - and this was amusing as hell - that he wanted to make sure she stayed out of danger.

Fat chance.

She stood, and looked around for her gun. On the second thought, she might not need it... but she would need... her spray bottle. With that clipped onto her belt along with her pass (her phone could go screw itself, she wasn't running the risk of Aric calling while she was fighting, because she knew she'd end up answering), she stretched, straightened her shoulders, then hurried out of her room and down towards the lobby.

She took the stairs.

Her phone, though, did receive a call while she was out. It was Aric. And he lowered himself to the level of leaving a message.

"Elysia, it's me. Do forgive my earlier conduct - I'm a little on edge. Some things have come up ear-

"No, I'd be only half-right if I said that, in all seriousness. I am still unhappy with how much of yourself you're dedicating to A~E. However, I believe this to be my fault - I installed you in a position that I thought would keep you entertained, active... and apparently, I'm just too good at what I do."
He laughed. "So, I really should be blaming myself.

"In an attempt to make it up to you, I do hope you go and check your A~E apartment. I assumed you'd probably prefer to go there to ready yourself for that party (promises to be absolutely delightful). I've left you a few presents - or, more accurately, I've sent you a few.

"I hope you have a lovely evening. Just remember - I have ways of keeping my eye on you. Don't do anything stupid.

"Keep my love for you in mind, my dear. Elysia."

The phone beeped, and a small red light began to flash. One new message.

"I need out of this building." Elysia kicked back in her chair, glowering at her paperwork. She was maybe a third done, and all the black type was beginning to wiggle this way and that, trying desperately to escape. Well, if it could run away, so could she.

She scrubbed at her eyes for a moment, groaning out of exhaustion. The past two days had been much too long, and work was just dragging it out longer. The urge to sneak off and get a drink was rising. But the last place she'd go would be the bar on the lower floors. God knows it'd probably be blown up before the night was over.

As she set to straightening up the sheathes of paper once more, the ice mage glanced over at her cell phone. Nobody had called since she'd returned to her office, but the blinking light of a message taunted her. She knew that she really didn't need to hear what was waiting there... so she ignored it.

Elysia was starting to get good at that.

Putting a few last things away, she made sure her phone and ID badge were on her belt before she shrugged into a brown coat. It wasn't so much for warmth as for looks, really. The briefcase, though, did serve a purpose - it held her squirtbottle, gun, and a few other things.

A glance at her desk and lucky piece of glass, and she was gone, heading for the service staircase. She really didn't need to go back down to the lobby.

As she passed one of the security cameras (one of the obvious ones) in the hallway, she paused, smiled up at it... then gave it the finger before strolling off.
