Roni allowed herself a moment to preen under the praise. That was all she needed, really, someone to tell her she was doing things right. Otherwise, how was she supposed to know what right was? She beamed and shifted in place, shuffling her feet as she grinned. It lasted until she looked down at Fell to say something, and remembered again that the eggs being safe in hand said nothing for her. And she was, well she was not.
Her open, expressive face showed terror as easily as it did joy, and there was no doubt that'd Fell would catch sight of that fear, what with Roni looking straight down at him. Eyes wide, lip caught between her teeth, she studied the distance and her stomach sudden felt as if it were full of the firestone she'd recently been sacking.
Sitting down, her feet dangling over the lip, Roni scooted slowly toward the edge. Getting as far as she could without falling, she closed her eyes tightly, made a weak, hopeless little meeping noise and pushed off the edge.
She was going to die and she knew it.

Roni was probably going to die. In fact, she was probably going to kill Fellendar too, in a spectacular blaze of glory, but far be it from him to admit to such. Arms outstretched, the former Harper was determined to catch his comrade, even if he lost function of his arms in the process. (To be honest, the black-haired youth rather hoped he kept his arms, he’d come to find them quite useful in years past and dragons didn’t tend to Impress cripples, or at least so he’d heard.) They were friends, after all, and that was all but a pact they’d made, now sealed by firelizard eggs. Fell could not drop Roni.
In reality, it was a very close call.
As small as she was, Roni was still just a little bit heavy in his arms, something akin to a falling stone. Let it be said that while Fell has never made any sort of attempt to strengthen himself physically, he didn’t actually drop the younger candidate. It just happened to be a very, very near thing. If he hadn’t braced himself, the former Harper might have dropped her or collapsed with her, or. Oh, well, it didn’t matter. He could her, the eggs were safe, that was all that really mattered!
Placing Roni back on the ground with a satisfied sigh and a particular puff to his chest, Fellendar reached over and gave her hair a good ruffle. “See?” he chirped. “Nothing to worry about. Now we just gotta get these eggs home and keep them warm.” He paused. “Do you know ‘nything about flits, there, Roni? ‘Cuz uh. My knowledge goes about as far as keeping their eggs warm until they hatch.”
