As of today I am officially a Lactation Educator in training! After much thought and weighing the options, I am going through CAPPA and getting certified to teach about breastfeeding. Later on i will pick up doula certs and eventually become a midwife, but this is my first step.

That's great! You're gonna really help people; the lactation lady I talked to through WIC made me so much more comfortable with breastfeeding, just by reassuring me that the problems I had were normal and would get better. Breastfeeding is still so ostracized, even though it's being promoted to new mothers a lot more now, that it's hard to be sure of what you're doing no matter how many videos and pamphlets you've seen. I actually don't remember ever actually seeing another woman breastfeeding.. And even though I have no problems nursing in public, my fiance insists that I cover with a blanket stressed So annoying...

the way i deal with people that tell me to cover up when i nurse my twins is i tell them to try eating with a blanket over their heads! try asking your fiance to do this and see if he doesn't change his mind, lol. I've actually had a mom thank me for nursing in public because it gave her a chance to explain to her daughter about how babies eat.
i'm really hoping to specialize in special cases, like adoption nursing, preemies, and multiples, because it's very hard in those cases where there's nearly no support! i've had to fight hospitals and doctors to BF my preemie twins (who are now 14 months old!)

That's awesome! whee yeah, we were at the zoo, and we went over to this shaded pavilion to get out of the heat for a little bit while i nursed, and a mom with her 4 or 5 year old come over too and are doing their own thing when the little girl inevitably asks her mom what i'm doing, and her mom explained "she's feeding the baby, remember how i told you about how babies eat?" and she thanked me.
