:Story:
You’ve all heard about them. The rogue children of god, first created in the form of medieval bards and dancers and musicians, entertaining in the streets and getting small amounts of coin in return. Over hundreds of years they began to form in packs, families, if you will, and refine their craft of trickery and deceit. Even go so far as to created “magic” to make their men seem inhuman, and fortune telling to make their women seem all knowing. And despite all this, their best abilities lie within the art of romance and seduction. Especially for their women.
Maybe the reason why they’re so seductive to us normal humans is because of the things they represent? Freedom, possession of their own will, families who care enough to lie for each other… Contentment in their life which can only be defined as luxurious poverty. And the happiness they get out of their craft, of course.
Thieves. Dancers. Lovers. All of this and more they are, and for this they are hunted by hired killers. Viewed as a plague on many cities they enter by their rich pigs and power-hungry authority figures, they are the minority. And they now must learn to fight for their freedom, or die trying.

Rules

With your first post please make sure you say your characters name at least once and include a picture in there somewhere.

In this world there can be technology but modern is as good as it gets and I would really prefer if that was kept to a limited amount. There are no Jedi Mind tricks and futuristic weapons are also a no.

While you may seem mythical in some senses, keep in mind you are human and do not actually have epic powers even if you can trick people into thinking you do. Yes you may have a light form of premonition.

Please try not to contradict each other and have fun. This world is your new play ground.

Destiny

As the sun rose higher across the city, the warm morning air threatened to turn stifling by afternoon. While the merchants barter and the rich protest not all were so miserable. Early that morning a caravan had arrived. Not just any caravan of merchants or artisans; these were gypsies. It had been long since they left their camp to set up wares for cheaper prices or entertain on one of the five dais around the Helios fountain and Rain was no different. Standing atop of one she balanced on the balls of her feet with her arms twined toward the skies. A sacred dance toward the moon goddess Selene, her golden headdress sparkled in the light as the tassels hanging off it added to the mournful flute being played. Standing in perfect stillness her body seemed to fall as if someone had struck the life from her before she caught herself as she fell naturally into her next move. The dance to Selene was supposed to be on of sorrow that told of her possession by the devil and the wrath she wrought and it was easy to see it all in the way she moved. Through complex dance steps her clothes waved and whipped around her adding to the eeriness as the flute was joined by a darker tone of a violin. Moving in a hypnotic way it was easy to see where the legends had come from that the dancers would be possessed. Those who stopped to watch were struck in awe as even some of the merchants in the Helios square stopped to look. As the music darkened the moves became more violent and sharp with a quicker pace. Then stopped. In perfect unison the music ended as Destiny's foot touched the ground and she became still. As the two musicians stood and left the stage to collect coins Destiny walked to the end of the dais and allowed two men to help her down.

Jareth Harte

Jareth was unlike most of the folk crowded around the fountain that day. For one his features were poised in a manner that was almost a smile, hanging in a balance between joy and cruelty. Another curious thing about him was that he was one of the few not watching the mysterious looking girl who danced as if only the heavens were watching her. Instead, he watched the crowd, absent mindedly performing card tricks while he watched.
Anyone who knew the man would know he was good with his hands, from juggling to magic tricks; even to the pleasing of a lady if he felt it needed. However, his true talent lay in cards. There was no trick he could not do, no game he could not win at; be it by cheating or honesty. Many people would have thought he was some kind of magician, but really he could just read people, their body language and their expressions telling him what trick would work to his advantage or which folk to avoid. From the looks of the crowd tonight they would make an easy living.
As the song came to it's end he stood automatically, catching the deck of cards in one fluid movement before helping Destiny from the dais. Leaning forward he whispered in her ear, light blonde locks tickling her shoulders,
"Lovely...just lovely. You certainly caught their attention,"

Where it couldn’t be seen from a distance, up close her cheeks were lightly flushed with exhilaration that dancing gave her, her breathing slightly more labored than it normally would have been from the exertion. It was part of her job to make it look so easy to dance that way and she succeeded very well but as the man whispered in her ear an ethereal smile crossed her lips making it hard sometimes to find the line between where one performance started and her personality began. Ignoring the second man who had hoped to catch her attention, the blonde man had been chosen to catch her attention, though exactly why never crossed her mind, they should have been equal competition but it was obvious who had won out.
“I think I may have gotten one or two people to look.” She said teasingly, “The real question is did I impress them.” The last part was a bit more serious since it was what she did for a living. If the crowd didn’t buy it, she didn’t eat. They had come to the town and had hoped from a prosperous day, if not they would be gone by nightfall, unless the city officials threw them out of this town as well. Even though the guards would stop and watch as well, that never seemed to stop them from driving them out of the town, “If I may ask, did you enjoy the show?”
The same smile sat across her lips with curiosity slipping in around the edges. It was always nice to hear opinions, good or bad. It let her know where she stood with the crowd.

((Just for the record, my existence on weekends will be sketchy at best.))

Gabriel Ethen Marie

Gabriel Ethen Marie watched the dancing girl, Destiny, quietly in the corner of the square. His gaze would often shift from the girl to the other women, reading their faces to see which would be an easy target for him to charm. His hair covered half of his face, which made it easier for women to become attracted to him. Gabriel knew most women were very attracted to this "mysterious" factor he had with him.

"Hello, milady, I have been noticing you for a while now, and I was just wondering if you could accept this bouquet." Gabe held up a bouquet of roses up to the woman, who was quite flattered and began giggling. She had no idea that in a day or two, her wallet would be stolen, and Gabe would disappear.

'That's right, come with me.' A charming, plastered smile covered up his seductive intent. He always knew what to say to dense women, which made him perfect for the job.

His business took a few days, but he always earned a lot of money because of it. Usually, he would sleep with the woman and steal her wallet while she was sleeping. To him, this was just too easy. But the consequence was that he just had to get out of that town before the woman noticed anything, or at least stay out of sight while his "family" members earned their money.

Jareth chuckled at the dancers reply, the sound rich as if he did it all the time but it had a sharpness that could make some feel uncomfortable.
"I'd say more then that my sweet," he replied, his cold grey eyes twinkling. The smile still firmly in place he turned to the crowd and pulled a little girl forward, her hazel eyes as wide as saucers.
"What did you think little one? Did you like the dance?" he asked, his gaze flicking between Destiny and the child, who couldn't have been older then 8.
"It was Pretty! She looked like a Princess!" cried the girl, doing a little twirl herself with her hands outstretched in a bad impression of Destiny. Jareth winked to the woman and smirked, as he replied to the girl,
"Indeed. Or maybe even a Queen!" as he spoke he appeared to pull a playing card from the girls ear, the Queen of Hearts. Holding a gloved finger to the girls lips he muttered,
"but Shush! It'll be our little secret, hmm?" to which the girl quickly nodded, taking the card from him. As she did so the child's mother appeared, a slight frown on her face. Thrusting some coins to Jareth she dragged the child away, scolding her for accepting things from 'these folk'
Laughing his icy laugh again the pale man turned his attention back to Destiny,
"See, they love you," he said triumphantly, cleverly not giving her his own opinion. Gaze crossing across the crowd again his eyes met Gabriel, and he gave the other man a barely noticable nod of approval.

Destiny liked the sharp sound of his laugh, it reminded her of dark chocolate and a laugh of her own slipped from her lips as she little girl tried to imitate her while declaring her a princess. She loved kids and this one was positively adorable, though her mother left something to be desired when it came to her attitudes toward her people. Even while the man never gave his own opinion, they had both gotten what it seemed they wanted, Destiny felt better about her position and she was feeling more gracious toward the man for that.
Watching the child get taken away but an over cautious mother, “Maybe not everyone does, but if I got through to a few of the kids maybe one of them will grow up with a sense of humor or imagination.” There was no sorrow in her words only mild amusement. She tended to float through life and not much caused the woman pain, or at least not for very long. When you didn’t have much and people were constantly trying to take it away, it took some of the value out of objects. Commenting on his trick with the child, “That was a nice trick for the girl. It’s not often people in the square can do much with their hands other than pick pockets.”
From most people that would have been a loaded question but Destiny meant nothing by it. It was simply her way of commenting that she liked it and found him of higher quality than the others around.

Gabriel was scanning the area while taking the woman to a cafe. The fragile victim held herself close to his chest, oblivious to the situation she was in. He had met eyes with Jareth, an acquaintance that traveled with him and many others. Gabe tipped an invisible hat, the sweet smile still glued to his face, then walked into the cafe with the woman.

Gabriel whispered how pretty she was into her ear. Apparently, the girl's name was Alice Merengal. Gabe introduced himself as Nicolas Greene. He was very good at lying, and even better at staying incognito.

Gabriel Ethen Marie was quite a lonely man. Despite his business and his attitude. As a young teenage boy, he ran away from his overbearing parents because he claimed that they did not respect him. A man found him on the streets, and took him to his group, his family, of gypsies that welcomed him with open arms. That was ten years ago. Now, he still misses the loud shouting of his arguing parents down the hall, though he despised it back then. It was rare that his parents ever held him. Even though he had a past full of drunken abuse, and parents who wanted him to do everything right, he was glad that those events happened, because if they hadn't, he wouldn't have left to join gypsies.

Eve

Eve leaned out the bakery window resting her chin on her hands. Not the busiest morning and at the moment she was waiting on the next set of bread to rise and the most current loaves to finnish baking. Between a cake, two pans of muffins, and four loaves of bread it was a dull morning as she waited for customers. Quite hoping one of the guard would stop by Eve enjoyed talking with them and learning the most current news. Being friends with one or two of them she often would spare a muffin for them in the mornings and chat with those that came through regularly. As the simple sand timer she used dropped the last grains she turned to see the golden brown breads ready to be pulled from the oven. Wrapping her hands in towels she pulled them out setting them quickly on the table next to her, there had to be a better way. As she looked out into the dinning room it was a simple building. The main room filled with a few tables and chairs then toward the back was the counter with a cash drawer that separated the front from the kitchen. Almost all of the kitchen could be seen from the dinning room so if you were bored enough you could watch your food being made. Though it was mostly a bakery Eve was a sucker for romantics and nice gestures and jokes or not if you could make her laugh it was usually enough to persuade her to make you some eggs or a sandwhich for a small fee.

Jareth thought for a moment about what she'd said, playing with the battered deck of cards he'd pulled from his coat pocket. They had a detailed royal blue and white pattern on the back, and any face cards looked like pictures from a fairytale; however the cards were moving in such a blurred manner it would be impossible for the crowd to see such details.
"Now you and I both know that a child raised in surroundings like this is never going to have a real sense of humour," he replied, raising an eyebrow at her as if to say she should know better. Jareth had grown up as a traveller, and as a result often felt distaste for these who could exist in the same space day after day. With her next comment his smile fell slightly, the man looking away as if something within the mass of people had caught his attention. His first instinct was to inform her that he could pickpockets too if the need arose, it simply wasn't his first choice. However, he didn't feel that the answer would sit well with her. Instead, he stated calmly,
"You value those who create, do something new with our craft rather then take what belongs to others," as he spoke he studied her closely with his iron grey eyes, his curiosity starting to get the best of him. Most people who met him quickly developed the idea that he was cold and sinister. In truth he was just terribly difficult to please. Realising he'd been staring he shot her another one of his grins and gave her a gentle nudge with his sharp elbow.
"Oh, for the record...that trick wasn't for that particular little girl,"

She let out a sigh with a weary smile when he replied about the sense of humour but she knew it was true. That little girl would grow out of her wonderment and into the home of a proper man where she would take her place as a proper wife. It was truly sad. Her smile turned sheepish at his words as she forgot about the predicament of the little girl and was brought back to the real world, “Any one can steal given the time. Some can do it subtly others with blatant disregard, but yes I do prefer those who create. To create something new requires more than a swift hand.”
Watching the cards with wonderment, Destiny enjoyed people who could create things. Storytellers, magicians, they fascinated her and in some ways she envied them. To her dance was a passion, not a creation though many would argue differently.
