hey, i know it's not anime. but it's art, right? D:

this is a broccoli drawing for part of the banner in a thread i hang out in.

i'm still a total newbie to the world of digital art, so would anybody here mind critiquing my piece? i'm not looking for somebody with specific master expertise on broccoli dynamics and proportions, but i'd prefer if you guys could mainly critique the coloring, and perhaps give me some tips on coloring/shading/blending on digital canvasses? thanks :]

Haha its pretty good, Unless it needs to be perfect youve got a pretty Yummy looking peice of brocli right there

you need to add darker darks. 3nodding there's not enough contrast and that makes it look a bit flat. darker darks and well placed highlights will add a lot of depth. ^_^

In addition to what Juneberry said, here's a picture of a real piece of broccoli.

Notice how it's not just one shade of green, but a variety of greens, from a lush dark green to a pale, slightly yellow-tinged green. When you're drawing something as everyday as broccoli, it's important to look up references to make sure your drawing has a convincing resemblance to the real thing.

As for digital coloring itself, I like to block in shades first using a brush with a fairly high opacity, and then start blending it all in with a large brush on a very low flow/opacity setting.

@ashleys cupcakes: i like my broccoli boiled/steamed, and lightly buttered or salted. i've also heard that they're good dipped in cheesy sauces :0

indeed, very tasty with butter and cheesy sauces. also very yummy when paired with cheese AND bacon.

...but then again, what isn't good when paired with cheese and bacon? o_O

probably sweeter foods. for savory dishes, cheese and bacon taste good on it all~
