I've been admiring lolita for some years now and never really had the funds to buy an authentic outfit, but I made do with what I have. For example, I would wear a big poofy skirt that almost looks like a bell, have a nice shirt and ribbon head-bow with some flats and I pretty much look doll-like(I'll post a visual later...). Would any of you consider that Lolita or imitation?

It would be considered imitation by Elitists. Personally, I don't take any notice of people like that though. I would still consider it Lolita. **shrugs**

It could be casual loli, depending on the shape of the skirt. It's hard to say without a picture.

Oh right, here you go! See, if I was to wear a petticoat or something like that, it would look too weird. But it's just a curious question.

I can't see the shape of your skirt from that picture, but the blouse looks okay to me. It might be a little thin, but that's easily fixed by throwing a white cami underneath it. It might look better tucked in, too.
Non-brand outfits are perfectly okay in lolita. I wouldn't worry about owning a full closet of brand. As long as what you wear follows the general silhouette of lolita, it IS lolita.

Thank you all for you're help! I just like dressing up that way because it doesn't throw people off to much about Lolita, but either way, I'm happy dressing up this way.
Thanks again for your advice.

heart Personally I think off brand clothing is fine. (I am a broke college student, so I don't own any "real" lolita) So long as people do their research and try their best to follow the lolita look then I believe it is lolita. whee
