Okaaay =)I like both pictures, but just for this reply, I'm going to concentrate on your first example, purely because I get antsy when doing one thing for so long. So, I will pick the one with the most to work with.
On a whole, I love the theme and style you have conveyed with her. I like the way you have bunched up the hair so that it looks like it's in a bun, rather than being ferociously pulled back (and you wouldn't believe how many artists stuff this up). I think maybe you should spend a bit more time working on your character proportions and where the different body parts are in relation to the rest of the body and what posture they are in. Here is a guide that is okay, but something that doesn't come free straight out of Google Images would suit better;Human body proportionIf you have a look at the guide, the elbows actually come down to the belly-button mark. This can be a really tricky concept to grasp, and it took me a while but it's something worth learning. It's because you need this to not make the character look physically disabled xp Another thing, is that his hand doesn't actually stop until it reaches just past the crotch area. This can vary, as people are all different, but the hand should at least finish at the hips. If you want the arm bent, an easy idea is to just use a ruler and position the arm out at the same length as it would be when it falls straight down.
Other than the above mentioned, I think it is a good start, and you just need to keep studying different pictures. Even though you shouldnt post traces and copies, it's sometimes a good idea to copy a character you like just so that you get the hang of it.
I like the hand by the way, I can never get them looking right, and the one holding the cigarette is very good. xp Hand peace sign! Good job!
