Long and complicated and ever changing story. You've had your warning.

I joined the National Guard in 2008 because they can offer me the most for school, in fact, I make a profit off of it. They changed my contract while I was at BCT/AIT (sneaky little bastards) and so I couldn't contract with ROTC last fall semester, which is the reason why I joined. To be an officer. I will however be able to contract NEXT fall semester. But here's the thing, my reason for wanting to be an officer is plain and simple: the money. When I was at AIT a sergeant went around and asked us our military career goals and anyone who said they wanted to be an officer he asked them why and told them it'd better not be money. I've got nothing else. I really honestly only want to be an officer, do my active duty when I graduate, make some bank, put it IN the bank, and then focus on building my family with my husband. But I know that when I go to contract they're gonna want some better answers than that, anyone wanna help with that?

So that's the first bit, this second bit gets even more complicated. I don't know if any of you can help with this, and I'll be seeking out recruiters so it's fine if you can't, but my husband is a marine. He has no college and no intent to go to college, he wants to be a grunt until his body craps out and he'll be a combat instructor or recruiter for awhile and go from there. All fine and dandy, but I joined first. So when I joined, I knew he'd prolly end up being a marine but I didn't really think about the practicality of it all. Yeah I'm in the National Guard, so technically I could do that and live with him at Camp Lejeune where we live now, but I ******** hate the National Guard. Active duty is so much ******** better. I can't do this flip flop between civilian and military world all the time. BUT, if I go active duty once I get my butter bar, the closest Army base to Lejeune is Fort Bragg and it's still a good 2-3 hours away. That's a minimum of 4 years of additional long distance. Because I'm in college we're dealing with that enough. So I got to thinking, you CAN transfer between the branches, it's just a really big pain in the a**. I always wanted to be a marine officer, and I got a shitton of reasons for that one (honor, discipline, you're a MARINE, etc., plus now my husband blah blah blah), so what's the best way to go about this?

I currently go to school in ky but I'm trying to transfer to North Carolina State University so I can be closer to my husband at Lejeune. At NCSU they have NROTC. Should I try to get through Army ROTC, then transfer once I'm a butter bar, or should I try to join the Navy/Marines now and go NROTC since I haven't commissioned as a cadet yet?

Thoughts? Opinions? Advice? Kthx guyz.

Kinda doing the same thing of getting my husband with me. But we're both Air Force so it's not as hard. But because you're both in different branches, I think it would be better to get your butter bar being a Marine. It will make it easier for the both of you unless you like being separate all the time, but it sounds like you don't. I don't really know how the other branches do joint spouse, because I really only know the AF's AFIs on it. Good luck with your choice though.

Edit: About.com on joint spouse
