What's 'The Magicians' about?
I'd recommend 'The Darkweaver Legacy' and 'The Imperial Series' by Mark Robson to anyone, I've been a fan for years.
'The Darkweaver Legacy' is more about magic and sorcery, whilst 'The Imperial Series' is about espionage and assassination. They follow on from each other, but you can easily read one without reading the other.
As for sci-fi, I've got nothing, I don't really read anything sci-fi :P the magicians describes the story of a genius boy who finds his way to a school for magic. part one is basically his years of school and the various adventures (altho scarse) he has during the schooling. The school is sort of a college level place, but really they just teach magic. the second part is about a supposedly fictional book that the school is based on, which turns out to be more like non-fiction. they embark on a journey to a magical land, and a bunch of super bad stuff happen. if u are one to get sucked into a book emotionally (like myself), its a hard book to read.
I'll check out those other series
