Prompt #: 2
Prompt Response: Amena had been floating about the house. She was happy, and the twins could tell, as they watched her. They didn't get to see their father often, he was always off trying to help on other worlds, and would be gone for great lengths of time (sometimes days, sometimes months, sometimes over a year). Sometimes the rifts he went through closed up and they had to wait on his return. The twins were almost 9 now, and had become accustomed to this strange way of life. They had just discovered a new rift earlier that week, so it was reasonable to think he might return any day, particularly today (for some reason he had always managed to come back on Tuesdays. They hadn't figured out why.) Amena had been preparing to cook all day, when Tam had told her someone at the store had called and said her order was in (she always ordered a special cake too, with flowers on it, but never said the significance), so their mother had left them alone in the house to pick it up.

Which is when they set to work.

Gin pulled the chicken out of the fridge, where it had been marinating in a bowl of sauce and Tam pushed the chair against the counter so they could both stand on it. Gin cut up the chicken clumsily, some pieces larger than could fit in one's mouth, some so small that a pin would be too big to use to point at it. Tam was working on opening the bag of coating, which he accomplished, but managed to rip the bag in half, spilling some on the counter, but most on the floor. A minuscule amount remained in the bag itself. They coated the chicken, and put it on a baking pan and placed it in the oven (even though this should have been deep fried. How were they to know the difference?)

Amena came home as Gin was mashing peas in a large bowl and Tam was spreading butter over a banana.

The floor was covered in every ingredient imaginable: flour, chocolate, spices, water, milk, cheese, just to name a few. A timer was ringing and smoke billowed out of the oven.

In the confusion, Silver had walked in behind Amena, who was bent over, tears streaming down her face.

But not tears of sadness, oh no. Silly little Amena could never be upset over anything like this. Her laughter shook her body hard, it was a very good joke!

They sat down to dinner (Silver never once made a face at the food) and began to talk about what had happened since he'd been there last.
