Is anyone here a competitve player? By that I mean either on the PT or working your butt off to get there!
PostPosted: Fri Dec 23, 2005 2:21 pm

I'm a competitive player, but I don't have the kind of deck required for the PT. *shrug*

I'm kind of bad at booster drafts, but I have a tendency to see things in my cards that other people overlook, so I can make better decks with the limited supply that I have. >.>

The only kind of deck I have that might be good enough to go in a tournament with is either my Sliver deck or my Elf deck, and the latter is largely composed of Japanese cards with photocopied english versions in the sleeves.

To be fair I have been to PT's and grand Prix, and I have learned that the actual pro magic players (the ones who really do well) are mostly reall great people who r never uptight, and would never rules d**k you, it is the players just beneath them (the ones who have maybe won one or to ptq's in their life) that think they are pros who are the actual dicks.

ive been to a few but the problem is there are more of them than the players that are actually respectable and have a good time...the ratio is a little too steep lol...but you do prove a good point that is very true

eh. i try, but i have very few decks that are competitive. mostly i try to use decks trategies that are generic but i give them a twist, like Burn for example. i remade it to my own style of burn. now it's a multiplayer burn deck. something that a lot of burn decks have trouble with.
on the downside my decks nevr work very well when it comes to tournaments, just when playing to teh type they were meant for (that gets down to exact player counts...like 2-8 other players for exampl, burn deck doesn't do 1-1. but anything above that it's deadly)

my burn deck actually gets better when it goes multiplayer. All you have to do is:
1) Stick 4 war elementals in it, they will feed of of the damage that you do to the opponents and they thfey trade amoungst themselves. So it some guy goes crazy and decides to tap out his creatures to do say 30 damage to a guy, the War Elemental gets +30/30 and you can whipe him out in your next turn, giving yet another +30/30 to it. Wars Thrive in a multi player format.

2) Stick multi player burns in it, such as sizzle (3 damage to all other players) or plasma rift (4 damage to all players). Combine that with the War Elementals and 5 players the sizzle can do 15 damage and add it to the wars' strength.

3) SureStrike Trident on the war elemental speeds things up like a mother.

3) find other ways to get you war's damage through, like trample. And as always, 4 lighting bolts aren't bad to have.

mm. naw, my deck is different then that. it stalls while burning. the decks main cardbase for burning is destroying every creature. weird i know. but it runs too many creatures as is. 7 (expensive creatures, four are walls of fire, two dragons and a magnivore) the deck thrives on sorceries and also anniahlating every creature that ever touches the field (slice and dice, swirling sandstorm) it's the weirdest deck ever, can't win against another burn deck for s**t, can't stand a counter deck, but it's anti creature, any creature based deck is gonna los)

In a way you are correct, but those peeps are easier to avoid then you think, after all, you choose who to hang out with. If you are actually playing you will have to deal with them more often, but just crush them and move on. Pro Tour weekends have been some of the best times in my life, if you give up on it because of a few jerks you are missing out on alot.

so you do world killing? Bah, i would just side board all my creatures then

and in a blue red burn beck (is you play stall/burn) you want eye of the storm, cause you can repeat all your burns.

haha, i wish i had money so i could build the decks i want to make...
I wanted to make tooth and nail (before the bandwagon hopped on and made it uncool) but i was only able to build what i did because the shop owner overlooked it and priced them at 3 dollars apiece (eh hehheh...). I built a cloudpost build that worked amazingly good, keeping in mind that i didn't have any money to improve it...
Yep...i wanna be competitive, but my dislike for netdecking and my lack of money makes that hard...oh well. at least i'm getting good at drafting.
