Tofir didn't let Yulu's accusation bother him. Healers lost patients. Besides. Maybe she wasn't dead. Just terrified and injured. In that case, Yulu's training as a trauma specialist would be helpful, but he'd just yelled at her for acting like a healer and not a dragonrider. Even the weyrling master had done that. He wasn't about to go against what had already been said. While the other healers joined him at least one seemed to have made it his job to chastise Tofir for his behavior. Tofir ignored him effortlessly. He was already planning how he would interview as many of the newly Impressed as he could in the next three days.

When the Blue from before cam barreling over to the table, something in his hands, Yulu quickly placed herself between Erath and the little beast. It didn't matter if he'd Impressed or was doing other things, she'd be more inclined to kick the beast were it to come any closer to her and the Green. Erath didn't seem bothered, more focused on eating, and Yulu planned to keep it that way.
The hatching was over, a woman was dead. Layla and Tofir had not gotten anything, only Yulu along, and now things would change. Her name would change.
She was now Y'ul of Green Erath, a Dragonrider of Pern.

Well. That was it then. Layla left the sands in a daze along with the rest of the candidates. A lot of them were weeping, some stamping along in angry silence, some muttering. Some, like herself, seemed to be in too much shock to do anything but trail after the crowds as yet.
She hadn't Impressed.
A part of her had been really sure that it would happen.
Foolish, really. Expect the worst, and hope for the best, but not too hard or everything came crashing down when your hopes were not fulfilled. There was a feast to go to now though, weyrlings to welcome, she couldn't just mope...
Yes.
Yulu and Cass had Impressed a lovely pair of greens. She managed a very small smile at that thought; perhaps they would let her help out sometimes. For now, that was the best she could do to comfort herself. She hadn't been chosen. Fighting back tears, Layla trailed on after the crowd. She hadn't Impressed.

{To make it official, even though I am way late. >>; }
Valentine watched the proceedings with excitement and interest, his arms folded about his midsection, occasionally giving some scar or another a scratch. He smiled and softly congratulated those who Impressed their life mates, remained hopeful. As things came down to the Golden Stag Egg and the Streaked Sky Egg, he silently wished the girls luck. He might get lucky. Valentine had been glancing around when the shells of the Golden Stag Egg fell away revealing the occupant inside. It was the commotion that drew his attention back. His eyes widened, blinking in surprise at the dragonet, a huge Bronze. Wow! Certainly unexpected, but astounding and somewhat funny at the same time. Valentine cleared his throat to stifle a laugh, a small smile settling on his features as he watched the Bronze move through the girls. He pondered off-hand who would be the lucky fellow that the charming Bronze chose to partner with...
Valentine-Mine, come with your Morgath. Our clutchmates await us.
Valentine's expression went to intense surprise. Whoa! A shocked smile gradually spread across his face as he moved to his dragon then over towards the tables. "Of course. Let's go..."
