With the sweet scent of heather filling his nose, Akinari closed his eyes blissfully. The day was warm, with the bright sun shinning down overhead. Its gentle rays fell upon his back, setting his fur ablaze with a pleasant warmth. Birdsong filled the air, a faint yet beautiful sound that brought hope flooding through him. The gentle water of a small pond lapped mere meters away, the dark blue hiding its mysterious depths away from sight.
One would not think that spring was only just beginning, yet for this one day everything seemed to have changed. It was nice, calming. With a happy nicker, the stallion stretched out his head against the ground. He was lying on his side, enjoying the sweet scents as the thin blades of grass gently tickled his nose. If only every day like this, just as blissful and serene.
A cool breeze picked up, a faint remnant of the winter that was passing, but it did not disturb him. Rather, it helped to stop him overheating.

Dutchess was unsure what to do with herself after her human caretakers had decided to abandon her miles away from her previous sheltered life. She thought that she had done something wrong or angered them in a way. She followed the rules and performed the best to her abilities, but maybe that wasn’t enough. The mare was still quite younger—younger than any other mares competing. So why did her humans leave her? She nickered, rearing up her head in annoyance. Dutchess had thought about escaping from these beautiful lands and find her humans, but figured that her reckless behavior would get her into even more trouble. Even more so as she was growing tiresome of eating grass and not having any delicious, tasty oats given to her by a warm hand.
“No warm stable either,” she whispered and caught an irksome glance from a bird up above.
Dutchess has spent the last night complaining rather than enjoying herself and was clearly annoying her neighbors. A heavy sigh escaped from her vocals as she looked away with a roll of her crimson eyes.
She walked out from underneath the shade of an old oak tree. Her eyes swiveled and eyes glanced around as she stepped out into the peaceful meadow of grass and wild flowers. The strong, powdery scent of lilacs filled the mare’s nostrils and she walked further inwards. A faint smile came to her lips as the sunlight beamed down onto her coat reflecting out its glossy tone and filling her body with such warmth that tickled her hooves.
Dutchess felt content and happy for once. She lowered her head to the earth and began to graze peacefully on the sweet grass that still held the morning dew. She neighed, bobbing her head up and down in delight each time she came across a clover or two.

Feeling his side warm, the heat grew upon his flank until he could bear it no longer. His warm, golden fur was soaking up the light faster than a foal could suckle milk. With a low, yet content, sigh, the stallion laboriously pulled himself up onto his legs, swaying slightly as the blood rushed down from his head.
Blinking sleepily, Akinari felt the need to cool down. Not even the breeze could calm his burning flank. The pond would do nicely. Lumbering over, he sloshed into the ice cold water. Brr! What a wake-up call! A shudder ran up through his legs, but he forced himself to lie down until all but his muzzle was in the water. A few moments later, he stood back up and leaped out of the cold pool, totally refreshed.
As he blew a strand of wet mane out of his eyes (it had an annoying habit of clinging to them when damp, or in this case totally drenched), he noted a small shape over by a distant oak tree. Raising his head, he let out a cheerful nicker. Who else would be out on such a warm, pleasant day?

Dutchess knew that there were other horses and creature roaming the meadows and fields of these lands. And she tried her hardest to avoid them because she knew that she wouldn’t have anything in common with them considering that she used to live a sheltered life. There were a couple instances where she had been confronted by a couple or two, but they ignored her as though shunning her out of their life. It wasn’t all that surprising to the bay mare and she expected it to happen once or twice. But the more she got rejected the more it started to hurt. She didn’t like traveling alone and having someone to talk to would be a relief on her part.
She dipped her head down and gently brushed her lips against the sweet wild grass. Opening her mouth, her ears swiveled and an odd alluring nickering voice caught her attention. She jerked her head upwards instantly and looked around quickly, her eyes scanning for the giver of the call.
Dutchess finally recognized the silhouette of a stallion in the distance. He was the color of earth—soft toned, quite beautiful actually. She stretched out her neck as his scent filled her nostrils. The mare snorted, stomping her hooves onto the ground as her ears flattened a bit.
But Dutchess was so curious as she continued to look at him. She cocked her head to the side and returned the greeting with a soft neigh that could be heard over the distance that separated them.

Hearing a soft wicker in reply, Akinari perked his ears up curiously. Another horse! He narrowed his eyes to try and catch a proper look at it. A bay shape shifted into focus. He pranced lightly from one foot to another, calling out again. It had been a while since he had come across another individual, lone horses were rare, and it was best to stay away from large herds in case they deemed you a threat.
But this one seemed friendly, and some company on such a pleasant day would be the so called icing on the cake. Making up his mind fairly quickly, be began to trot over. His sopping wet mane drying slightly in the stifling heat. As he approached, he could see her in slightly more detail. A nice-looking brown mare, with a much darker mane and tail.
As the distance between them closed, he slowed slightly, not wanting to appear a threat to her. He'd spooked a couple of horses by appearing to be... well... too friendly, if such a thing even existed. "Hello there, fair lady."
