The Glimpse
Wahoo Silverberg, Happy Nohar and Eliza Hasselneck sat together on a tiny red couch, none of them feeling comfortable sitting so close to the other. There was a reason most of the show was filmed with them at a desk - putting Wahoo and Eliza too close togehter almost surely would lead to phyiscal violence - so they were kept separate at opposite ends of the desk. Luckily, on this tiny couch, Joy Behar served as a wall between the two, but who knows how good of a shield she would be if things became heated. Beside the couch was a comfortable looking blue lounge chair, intended for their guest, Recks Aldwin.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Wahoo Silverberg started. "I would like to introduce you to our guest this morning, star of the musical production Lucian, Recks Aldwin!"
Eliza glared at Wahoo. She wanted to introduce Recks. But that was typical Wahoo, stealing all of her fun.
Reck's entered at the introduction, every bit his good ol' boy self - giving that sky smile as he walked over and took a seat. He wore his usual attire, and his hair, unlike his character Lucien, was back to its usual long curly self with his wavy bangs falling almost to his eyes. "Thank you ladies," Recks said with a warmer smile now, much more comfortable here than walking out before the crowd.
"My, my, you sure are a cute one aren't you?" Happy Nohar teased. She was well familiar with Recks's looks. In fact, she has spent much time Googling him and drooling over any images of him she can fine. That was perfectly appropriate for someone her age to do, right? Okay. Maybe not. But when did she start caring about appropriateness.
"If you haven't heard of the play Lucien yet, then you have been living under some kind of rock," Wahoo said toe the live studio audience, mostly composed of lonely middle aged women and a few effeminate men. "There's been a considerable sudden thrust of attention in your life Recks, how have you been managing that?"
"well," He began, "I guess kind of like I take everything else, I just kinda go with what's thrown at me. Sometimes things, well-" He gave a bit of a laugh, "a lotta the time things can get pretty confusing but there's been a lot of support from friends and family and of course the cast." As he spoke Recks leaned foward a bit, elbows propped on his legs as he 'talked with his hands' and would tend to incline his head one way or the other.
"I don't know if you've been paying attention to it, but you're starting to get quite a gay fanbase," Happy said. Maybe this wasn't totally true, but she came across this during her Google searches. "Not that unusual for a musical star. Have you been paying attention to that at all?"
"Can we please not talk about homosexuals on this program, its offensive," spat Eliza. "Its inappropriate, this is daytime television. Its offensive, isn't it Recks? ISN'T IT?"
"Well," Recks ran a hand through his hair as he prepaired to respond, "I think really it's to each their own. I mean, you really can't control that sotra thing. My parents taught me to accept everyone for who they are and their beleifs. Just cause I'm gaining a homosexual fanbase it doesn't make /me/ one, and really I value all my fans equaly despite their age, gender, sexual preferance, race or any of that. In the end we're all people, and if people of such different views can unite under one common interest then it's cool with me. I don;t see anything offensive at all about discussing one's orientation, so long as no one's doing any bashing."
"Good answer," said Wahoo, tuning out Eliza's comments. "On the topic of sexuality, are you seeing anyone currently?"
"No." Recks answered simply, following up with an explaination. "I find that relationships don't last long when one or possibly both members of it are in the spotlight or trying to break in to the spotlight."
Happy died a little inside. That was it. The official declaration she had no shot with Recks. Nonetheless, she managed to ask a question. "Your work in Lucian is beocoming well renowned. You have a musical background, but what about acting? Was that new for you or did you dabble in the past?"
"In highschool and college I did some performing. I got so into it that I got my stage actor's card and was and,..well guess I still am a part of the national thespian society. I really wanted to get into it but thought music would be easier." Well, music WAS easier...on a small town base. It didn't bring in much though when you were just performing in the local bars,..and here it was probably just as hard as acting, so why not go with something he got more enjoyment out of?
"The play is a beautiful dramatic peace with some dark themes. Lucian is a mortician, if I recall? Do you have any similarities with Lucian?" Eliza asked.
"Actually, I didn't think so at first. When I auditioned for the workshop I thought I'd get Gabriel's role for sure, since I looked more like him. The original Lucien was supposed to be dark-haired, where as Gabriel has the curly, long blonde hair. But if there had to be any similarities I would say it'd be how firm LUcian and I hold to our beleifs."
"Hold firm to your beliefs?" Eliza asked. That was something she could certainly relate to. "Do you care to elaborate how so?"
"Well," Recks began. "The major message of the play is to be happy with how you look, and the play portrays that in a more biblical light. Lucien is a very religious character and so when he acts against his beliefs, he is faced with great internal termoil. Heh," Recks game a slight laugh again. "I know when I am asked to do something that is against my own personal morals I feel sick to my stomache for weeks, so I can understand Lucien's internal battle."
"That's very admirable," Eliza said.
"So I take it we won't be seeing you on the cover of any tabloids then with a scandalous story?" Wahoo laughed. She believed Recks would avoid trouble, but she also knew that nobody's career went without scandal. Although she recalled him being in the news a year or two back for something or another.
"I hope not. I mean, I know there are misunderstandings that will inevitable be misconscruited, but I intend to do my best to live a good clean life. Kinds don't have many celebrities that their parents can feel good about them lookin' up to, y'know?"
"Oh yes I know," said Eliza, who disproved of most of the celebrities in the limelight these days.
"Thank you Recks for stopping by and talking with us," said Happy. "We'll be right back after the commercial break with a live performance by Recks from the hit new musical, Lucian."
