I recently downloaded all of the Final Fantasy Soundtracks ever. I know, I'm evil, but that is beside the point. What I wanted to ask everyone is this. When I listen to these soundtracks, of old and new games, and the masters who created the sound behind them. Music so memerable that it brings tears of joy to my eyes whenever I play them...What I wanted to know is, what song bring back the greatest joy for you. And Secondly what is the greatest song ever made by the creators of Final Fantasy? I know, there are like 2500 plus songs...but hey, I'm an obsessed fanboy, what else am I going to do with my time...mahahahah
Anyhow, one of the most memerable and all be it heartwarming and yet nastalgia ridden song I can think of is the Final Fantasy V/I song. I say V/I because the song in Final Fantasy V was so closly resembling Final Fantasy I's song fanfare that it makes my emotions tingle, I love the songs in Final Fantasy I and V, both have sadness, mornful loss, yet with a ting of hope, yet at the same time the knowlege that something deeper and more profound will happen, like, they have come into this world, to save it, yet they shall never be able to return to their own, or something like that. Final Fantasy I, because of the simplicity of the storyline, I always had to imagine everything I didn't know. For example, my cousin gave me his orginal copy with standard manual, maps, and everything, when you look in the main manual, I think it is page one. When you look at this castle in the sky, I have to remember that, there is not castle in the sky in the game, therefore this must be where they come from. Yet, how shall they return, is this a fateful journey to save a world, and yet in doing so, may they never return again. Plus, I fee this in the music, an almost lament for a homeland they might never see again. I don't know, it doesn't seem reaznable, but yet, when I hear that music it makes me want to cry. And the quality is so simple, technically inferior to anything that could possibly be made now days, and yet, and yet in that simplicity, something magical was created, an empire so vast, that even today, we still hold homage to our origens, that in gaming terms, Final Fantasy is a halmark of one if not thee greatest lines of games on earth. Yet, how can I feel this way for one game, when the storyline is so simple? Because although it may be simple, it has something, the same thing, Final Fantasy I-VI had, humanity, something all the games have possessed in great numbers, and that is why I think the music is so great in all these games.
When I think of fanfare from Final Fantasy V, and all of the games, it brings back those happy memories of playing these games, a extremely happy part of my early life with my cousin, playing Final Fantasy, experiencing something that has permenently changed my life for ever. Something magical. That is why I think the most nastalgic song, at least for me in the Final Fantasy series is fanfare, why else do you think they added it in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, because it truly is one of the key melodies that are so recognisable as Final Fantasy, and as such, I say it is, #1.
-The Dragon Lord
I forgot to mention, since I couldn't add every game made by Square-Enix go ahead, if you think one of those games has the same effect on you, name them. I found that Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, all the Seiken Densetsu games did this, plus Star Ocean, plus Breath of Fire, especially #3 which was infact made by Capcom, all have this affect, they just express humanity in a wonderful and amazing way...Just tell me which song from any or another game, just let us stay within the RPG bounderines, which one, brings the most nastalgic moment to you guys?

Holy... hell o.o.
Wow... *thinks* i'd have to say one of my absolute favorite songs is 'Simple & Clean'. the theme song from KH. Or at least the slow version. It just, to me, I don't know... hits a soft spot in me that i can't explain. The song itself represents the pure, innocent feeling of love and... yet from how it's sung... also a feeling of loss. One that I can't help but feel everytime i hear the song. It really does bring tears to my eyes just feeling how the music moves.
The lyrics are good too, though one verse in particular i believe fits better in the edited (faster) version. That would be...
Hold me Whatever lies beyond this morning Is a little later on. Regardless of warnings The future doesn't scare me at all...
I just think it sounds better in the edit version ^_^. Though i may be wrong.
but ya... not as detailed but... then again. I suppose i do have better things to do with my time.

wow, even i only have MOST of the FF soundtracks (V, VII through X-2, Tactics, and Advent Children to be exact)
i agree with you that the Final Fantasy music (most of which was created by Nobuo Uematsu) hits a particular emotion inside of you when you hear it, and it gets you in the mood that you would imagine that the characters themselves are feeling.
this is particularly apparent to me in a few songs:
1) Suteki da Ne (FFX): this song is just beautiful, with the pure orchestration and the slow japanese vocals. Rikki has a great voice
2) Those Who Fight Further (FFVII): this was FFVII's boss battle theme music for those who do not know titles. this song just makes you feel so upbeat and ready to kick some a**!! i've got the black mages version on my xbox360 playlist for playing Need for Speed and Perfect Dark Zero for that very reason
3) Eyes on Me (FFVIII): for mostly the same reasons as Suteki da Ne (only the vocals are english). Faye Wong (chinese, not japanese) also has a beautiful voice and the way this song was put together was brilliant. i almost cried when this song played during the ending

Most definately You're Not Alone from IX. Part of it probably is just the point they play it in the game, but it does sound awesome by itself. I love most of IX's soundtrack. Suteki da Ne and Simple & Clean are also great, but usually I prefer to listen to music without words.

ok so I just realized I voted for the one I liked the least.... stressed I'm such a dumbass sometimes.
I'd have to say I really can't decide which soundtrack I like best. It's a toss up between FF6 anf FF7. I just love the opera music and the atmaweapon battle theme from FF6 and to combat and match that there's 'One winged Angel' and 'The Birth of God' from FF7... I just can't decide.

Well, thanks guys for discussing the music from the game you love...I'm still downloading the music...dang, who would have thought 2,500+ songs could come mostly from one man...I'll tell you, anyhow. I'm still totally hooked on Final Fantasy, and predict to be a 90 year old, playing the stuff, oh I can only imagine the emotional scaring my grandchildren will be forced to endure...mahahahahahah...-evil grin- twisted anyhow, I really do appreciate voting, and tell me what music you guys love, I personally can't really decide. I just say that I don't have a favorite music genera, song, whatever, because there are too many goods ones to decide. And if I was forced to pick just one, I would pick none, because no one song can possibly hope to express all of humanity in one song. Why do you think music has been around so long, because we need huge quantities of it, to say to the universe who and what we are...

I like a lot of the FF stuff, especially "Those Who Fight Further", "Zanarkand", Liberi Fatali, One Winged Angel, and The Promised Land (from AC). I listen to FF music to lighten up my mood sometimes too.

Yeah...I just edited a Cover for FFVIII's Soundtrack for a friend because Liberi Fatali was named Liberati Fatali...but I can't choose between them at all...if it was written or played by Uematsu or the Black Mages then it's bound to be perfect like Yakusoku no Chi & Sairin Kata Tsubasa no Tenshi Which sound great in the Advent Childen Soundtrack (Yay I'm getting the DVD Soon!)
But Desti - Dive into the Heart, Hikari/Simple & Clean/Clean & Simple sounds great but so do the Passion: Battleground, Passion: After the Battle & Passion Themes from Utada Hikaru's CD: Passion which is the new Kingdom Hearts II Theme songs! (Check my Profile for the Japanese Kingdom Hearts II Intro FMV with Passion: Battleground for the Overlay Music)

You should try listening to the orchestrated version of 1000 no kotoba from the FFX-2 soundtrack. It's pretty emotionally intense near the end, it almost sounded like if the singer started crying.
