So I can draw pretty well, but on PAPER. I scan it in its still aiite, but then when i try to line it on the computer and it looks COMPLETELY different and not in the good way sad Programs i use include Opencanvas and Sai, the latter of which is AWESOME but i'm still unable to properly convert the idea onto the computer sad
help? or advice. I'd 'hire' a lineartist for me but I'd rather learn it myself biggrin

I have the same problem.
I would just try to sketches and art exercises on the computer until you're happy with it.

Wow I get the EXACT same problem. Or at least I use to. XD I use Corel paint shop pro photo myself (which is a pain in the butt, but it does work) and I use to get that lineart problem a lot after scanning. (I assume you mean that kind of gray looking, 'it's obviously a scan' look, yeah?) Now, have you tried adjusting the levels? That's usually what makes the lines darker and more visible. On mine I got to Adjust>Brightness and Contrast>Levels... But it's probably different on Sai. (probably easier) Also, if that brings out the gray...ness of the paper (you know, rubbed out pencil and the like) you can either erase or just pick up the magic wand and delete all the white and put a white background behind (that makes it look really clean.) Then again, if you have a tablet, just make a new layer and trace over. ^^ That works too.
SORRY! Long comment (I don't even think I helped much with all that) anyway, hope I said something useful to you! ^^'

I use photoshop. I find that blowing up the picture to like 300% and lining it, and THEN shrinking it back down, is really helpful.

I use Sai myself for the majority of all of my artwork from start to finish.
What I would do is scan your traditional piece, lower the occupancy on the original layer so that it's lighter and easier to line over.
Create a new layer ontop of the scanned piece and increase the zoom anywhere between 200-300 percent and just take it step by step as you reline it.
Also, make sure pressure is working as it helps a lot of the time as well unless you enjoy the bianary look. :3
