I heard that about that once. I think you can go back to your past or future. Make sure you come back.

Astral projection was originally thought of my achient egyptians, who only believed in an underworld with chances of reincarnation if you where of royal blood. The believe that a person soul could leave the body and travel, but was connected to the body by a silver chain. They though by doing this, their priest could connect to their gods by going to the inbetween space between the realm of the gods and the world of the living.
It was brought in to practice, secondly, by taoist who thought that through meditation the bodies spiritual energy could take form outside the body and travel. It was believe that you could see the energy once it took physical form outside the body, though you could pass through it like a ghost, and the the actual living body would remain in a meditative sleep while this was happening. if you could do this you where considered to be immortal.
The next place astral project appears is in India with the Theosophists who mixed the ideas of the egyptians and the taoists that you could connect with the gods in the inbetween plane, but you also gained some form of immortality by mastering this ability.
The only other place astral projection appears is with psychics, who use astral projection to travel through the worlds and the many astral planes of the universe. its a form of communication with those of the departed when you enter the area between astral planes, but is also used to travel the world to see things that could not be seen otherwise.
no where in the history of astral projection or its current uses does it say you can reach heaven, or any area like heaven through astral project. The closest it comes to a form of heaven is the inbetween plane where you can meet with the gods, but you are still not in their realm, or the area between astral planes where the spirits of the dead remain.

And though it is a good way to gather knowledge from may different aspects of life and a way to see the 13 astral plans, the temples you refer to are not actual temples. The temples are a metaphor used to explain the gathering of knowledge in the astral body that is then combined in to the knowledge of the physical body. The body being the temple itself opens itself up to the infinite knowledge of the universe and the subuniverse by allowing itself to take its spirit form in order to expand its mind into the known world. Not actual temples, but the mind being used as a temple to retain knowledge to be pass on.
