In my English Language, Structure, and Theory class, I need to interview ten people about language change for a project.
I'm keeping it pretty well balanced with a couple of professors, students, old people, compy people, etc.
To make a long story short, I need to interview a couple of teens over the Internet, and I muchly prefer interviewing people I know.
These be the questions: =o They're about slang and stuff.
1. What slang do you find yourself using on a day-to-day basis?
2. What words have you picked up over the years?
3. Do you remember where you first heard them?
4. Why do you think you picked up the slang?
5. Have you ever made up any slang?
6. How often do you see movies that have today's slang incorporated into it?
7. Do you know of any celebrities that seem to incorporate their image into slang?
8. How much do you think the words you use have changed over the past year or two?
9. Do you ever read any novels, poems, plays, etc, that have slang embedded into them?
10. Do you think that the slang found in such things as movies and books is already growing old when it hits the public?
11. What do you think defines slang in a language?
12. How much of the English language that is used day to day do you think is slang?
13. Do you think there is or could ever be a language made entirely out of slang?
Right, so I would really appreciate it if a couple of people answered them XDD! I can give you some gold and stuffs.

You can just answer them here, and you don't have to sound "intelligent" or "legit." I mean, it's an interview about slang, of all things XDD!
Oh, that's actually one of the questions, what makes slang slang.
Thankssss, Volupine! *giffs joo a big hug!* heart

Lol, no problem! HOKAY, here it goes... 1. What slang do you find yourself using on a day-to-day basis? Well, i say 'mann' alot, and viddy (for see), homeslice, 10-7 (crazy), allusions to movies ("go bear jew" on someone) and assorted vulgarities (like calling my friends "bitches"), rad, and phonies
2. What words have you picked up over the years? See above.
3. Do you remember where you first heard them? Either movies, friends, books, or Tv.
4. Why do you think you picked up the slang? Because I heard it and thought it was funny or just a rad thing to say.
5. Have you ever made up any slang? sort of. my brother has his own slang and sometimes i contribute to it.
6. How often do you see movies that have today's slang incorporated into it? I dont' really watch movies often, but when i do, they always have slang in 'em.
7. Do you know of any celebrities that seem to incorporate their image into slang? yeah, a few like"Tom Cruise crazy" (one of my favorites).
8. How much do you think the words you use have changed over the past year or two? i don't really think they've changed at all.
9. Do you ever read any novels, poems, plays, etc, that have slang embedded into them? yes most of them do. the older 'Classics,' im sure, have the slang of their times, and it goes over my head (lol) usually.
10. Do you think that the slang found in such things as movies and books is already growing old when it hits the public? sometimes yes. Like "bling bling." i cringe when i hear that.
11. What do you think defines slang in a language? for me it's 1. a word or phrase that, when inserted into a conversation, produces a look of confusion in adults. 2. things you would never add to a a college application essay.
12. How much of the English language that is used day to day do you think is slang? most of it
13. Do you think there is or could ever be a language made entirely out of slang?yes. my brother is currently working on that one.

Boo would most definitly love to be a part of this!
1. What slang do you find yourself using on a day-to-day basis? I tend to swear a lot, especially when I am typing, but I refrain from doing so when I talk to certain people. Instead of swearing, aroudn those special people, I tend to use "crap" and "oh snap". I used to say sweet a lot, but I go through phases with that one, along with cool, and hot. When typing, I use 'inorite' quite frequently, along with 'yarly', 'srsly', and 'orly nao'. When I think, and sometimes when I type or talk, I use British slang, just because it's awesome. So words like snogging, brilliant, bloody brilliant, wicked, a few others.
2. What words have you picked up over the years? The vocabluary I stated above.
3. Do you remember where you first heard them? I started hearing swear words from my parents and from rated R and PG-13 movies from a very young age, from as long as I can remember. I have learned inorite, yarly, orly nao, and srsly from Gaia, the CB in particular. Most of the British slang I actually learned from Harry Potter, starting when I began to read the first book at six years old. I learned oh snap in the seventh grad at middle school, when all the kids started saying that and oh shitaki mushrooms.
4. Why do you think you picked up the slang? Well, when I hear words I like, i use them. If they're made up slang words, a word a friend of mine uses that nobody else knows what it means, or if it's some crazy long fancy word. I'm just a writer, and I love words. They make me happy.
5. Have you ever made up any slang? Oh, more words than I can even remember! I'm a word nerd, but I don't remember any of my made up words..
6. How often do you see movies that have today's slang incorporated into it? Most of the movies that I watch do. I mean, it's everywhere. Unless it's a period piece.. but even then, you can still find some current slang.
7. Do you know of any celebrities that seem to incorporate their image into slang? Oh, all of them do! They would be lost to the world if they didn't, these days. But that brings to mind Paris Hilton and "Thats Hott"
8. How much do you think the words you use have changed over the past year or two? They haven't changed as much over the past year or two, well, not a significant amount compared to the rest of my life. Although, my word usage is less spastic and immature, if that makes sense.
9. Do you ever read any novels, poems, plays, etc, that have slang embedded into them? Yes. Slang is everywhere, you can not escape the change of a language. The change of a language reflects the change of time its self. To escape slang would be to freeze time at the creation of language.
10. Do you think that the slang found in such things as movies and books is already growing old when it hits the public? Yes, because slang begins to grow old from the moment the word and it's particular meaning is invented. Some last longer than others, but all deteriorate eventually.
11. What do you think defines slang in a language? I see slang as any deviation from the first set of grammar and definitions in a language.
12. How much of the English language that is used day to day do you think is slang? Most of it.
13. Do you think there is or could ever be a language made entirely out of slang? No, because if you make a language out of slang, it technically isn't slang anymore, it's the language that you just made that just happened to be made out of words from another language that happened to be slang words. If that makes sense.
Well, I guess yes, it would be a language made out of slang but it wouldn't be slang anymore if it was actually considered the language. We will have enough slang words to do that someday. Like, srsly.
