Seven and Rydel
a psychopath with a metal hula hoop
PostPosted: Fri Feb 05, 2010 11:14 am

GENERAL

Name: Lucky Seven. Yes, that’s honestly her name. Please just call her Seven.
Gender: Female.
Age: She looks to be around fifteen or sixteen.

Technician, Weapon or Witch: A technician.

Souls Attained: Zero! What a terribly unlucky number! Quickly, Rydel, we need three souls! Three souls in order to regain our lovely luuuuuuck!

LOOKS

User Image

Eye Color: Blue.
Hair Color: Pink.
Skin Tone: Normal, rosy.
Height/Weight: 5’4’’. Light and small.

Extra: Seven’s hair reflects her mood. It seems to swirl around of its own accord, standing on end when she’s surprised, curling when she’s content, and winding into stiff curls when she’s angry. Why? Well, that’s anyone’s guess. It’s best not to question Seven, it’ll just make your head hurt. Oh, and also, she’s freakishly flexible. She can bend in ways no human was ever meant to bend. Seven’s quite known for her unusual clothing choices, particularly her backwards-heeled shoes. Everyone knows that wearing things backwards heightens luck!

PERSONALITY

Likes: LUUUUUUCK. And the number seven! Lots of sevens! Three sevens! Seven sevens! JAAAAAACKPOT~
Dislikes: Ladders, black cats, upside-down horseshoes, three-leaf clovers! Get them away, now!
Hobbies:
- Gambling. She likes all kinds. Blackjack, poker, even a simple game of high card low card.
- Gymnastics. Remember how I said she was flexible? She quite enjoys her bendiness.
- Making things luck-tastic. Never, never leave her alone in your house. When you come back, it will be upside down, and there will be rabbit feet hanging from every window.

Fears: That one day her luck will run out.
Quote: “Jackpot!”
Extra: Seven’s entire life is governed by luck. She won’t fight if her coin-flip doesn’t land on heads, she won’t leave her room if she’s gotten a bad horoscope, and she won’t touch you if you’re wearing anything she calls an unlucky color. So naturally, she’s just a tad hard to deal with. But don’t count her out just yet. She’s a truly formidable opponent when she’s not having a nervous breakdown.

HISTORY

Birthplace/Home Town: Somewhere in Nevada. She never says where.
Birthday: August third.
Family: Oh, here’s where it gets interesting! She’s the daughter of someone very important, you see! The person in question being Lady Luck, a legendary witch that vanished years and years ago, making it quite hard to confirm this lineage, but she will swear until the day she dies that she is indeed her child by a human man. And she never did know the man, nor was she raised by the woman. So, parental abandonment at its finest. Oh, it's also important to note that even if she is Lady Luck's child, she doesn't seem to have inherited any witch-like traits. But the uncanny luck may have come from there.
Partner: Rydel Platt.

Life's Story:

Seven claims to be the child of Lady Luck. And for those who don’t know who that is—and she will be incredibly insulted it you don’t—she’s an absolutely legendary witch! An old, old one! She was around before the first casino was built, before the first deck of playing cards, even before the first poker chip! And all those things are her doing as well! Or, at least the old legend says so. She was apparently the founder of gambling in general. A witch who gained the power to fool with the forces of luck and chance, and who learned to tame and govern them in the same way that a Shinigami governs death! Of course, that really is just a legend. There’s no real way to prove it, even though there are records of a real Lady Luck having lived quite a while back. The trouble is that she vanished long, long before Seven was supposedly born.

But Seven will tell you otherwise. She actually has no memories before she was...hm, let’s say six years old? Hard to place. Anyhow, the first clear memory she has is of opening those big blue eyes of hers and gazing upon the most beautiful woman she’d ever seen. She was tall, and fair, and her hair was bright pink just the way that Seven’s is. And that woman—she is incredibly certain of this—was the one and only Lady Luck. She looked just like the woman from the storybooks! And that woman called her ‘daughter’. And naturally, this was all very confusing. But after the woman vanished, and she got to thinking, and she grew up a little, she eventually came to the conclusion that she had indeed met her mother, and that her mother was luck personified.

And thus started the madness.

Seven frequented casinos. Now, she was only just a child, and she couldn’t go in, but she would stand in front of them and just stare. She was utterly entranced by the entire thing. Money, lights, glamour, luck! All to do with luck! Luck was happiness. And who was she? Well, she was the daughter of luck. And as luck would have it, she did well on her own. She grew up on the streets, playing games like the ones from those casinos, and winning every time. And it was over these years that she realized that luck really could buy her happiness.

When she was around ten years old, she met Rydel. And it wasn’t by accident either! No, she was convinced that the boy was her good luck charm for one reason or another—and she’s never really elaborated on her reasoning, unfortunately—but either way, he became both that to her and also her best friend. They only just decided to enroll in school. Or really, she did. He’d been educated formally, just not necessarily here. They have yet to actually attend class—tomorrow will be their first day.

There are gaps in this story. For instance, how did she get to England in the first place? How did she survive all those years by herself? The answer, to be honest, is that we just don't know. She may not know either. It's very easy to question her sanity, after all. Hopefully, more coherent answers are to come.

GENERAL

Name: Rydel Platt
Gender: Male.
Age: Sixteen.

Weapon: He can turn into a ringblade.

Souls Attained: Zero, regrettably.

LOOKS

User Image

Eye Color: Green.
Hair Color: Black.
Skin Tone: Rather pale.
Height/Weight: Around 5’5’’. Very thin.

Extra: He really dislikes his appearance. He figures it was the reason he was bullied as a kid. He's gotten rid of the enormous pair of glasses that he used to wear, but other than that there's not much he can do to change it. So he believes that he's rather girly and silly-looking.

PERSONALITY

Likes: British literature. Actually, any literature. Also silence, Deathbucks, and music that nobody else listens to.
Dislikes: Loud people, obnoxious people, and people who don’t think. It makes you wonder why he likes Seven, doesn’t it?
Hobbies:
- Reading. There is no greater peace than an empty room and a book big enough to stop a door with.
- Knitting. Yes, he knits. Is there anything wrong with a man who likes to knit?
- Sudoku. And puzzles in general.

Fears: Nothingness. Being trapped in nothing, that’s his biggest fear. Perhaps also going crazy.
Quote: “Well. That was interesting.”

Extra: While Rydel used to be a nervous wreck as a child, he’s for the most part grown out of it. He’s become a very quiet, very calculating, and very logical to offset Seven’s blind luck-induced fits of emotion. While he seems like an enigma at first, he’s actually rather approachable. You just need to get to know him a little first.

HISTORY

Birthplace/Home Town: London, England.
Birthday: October sixth.
Family: None to speak of. A literal British orphan.
Partner: Miss Lucky Seven.
Life's Story:

Rydel didn’t know his parents. They left him a lot of money, but he never knew them. Apparently they died when he was just a baby. And as a result of growing up with no mother, no father, and no real direction in life, he became a very lonely little boy. He was raised for the most part at an all-male boarding school in London, where he found himself being ruthlessly bullied at literally every waking moment. In retrospect, he kind of set himself up for it. He’d been a stuttering mess as a child, whose only friends were Jane Eyre and Hareton Earnshaw. On top of that, he was smart. Way too smart to understand, but just smart enough to make jokes about. And it really hadn’t helped that he was easily the smallest, least athletically capable child in England at the time. By the time he was seven, he’d probably gotten the crap kicked out of him at recess more times than anyone else in school. Even that one kid who ate paste. And that was saying something.

And to boot, he was a useless weapon. A metal hula hoop. Who wants one of those? Needless to say, he spent a lot of time by himself in his room, wishing he was never conceived. And he probably would have blossomed into the textbook example of a wrist-slitting emo kid had he not met a strange little pink-haired girl one day when he was around ten years old. He wasn’t sure exactly why he’d been outside. Usually, his hiding spot was his room, but on this rare occasion he’d chosen to go cry on the steps. From what he remembers, it was about something small. Someone had teased him about his inability to pronounce one of the class’s spelling words due to that annoying stutter. He hadn’t taken it well. Anyway, for some reason, Seven was there. To this day he has no idea why. She’s always had a habit of just showing up everywhere, so he’s learned not to ask.

He remembers her saying something, and him looking up. After that they just stared at each other for a good five minutes until finally she asked;
“Why are you crying?”

He didn’t say anything for a moment. He just watched her with wide eyes, stunned at both her sudden appearance and the fact that she was talking to him. And for some reason, he actually answered. He burst into a fast-paced unintelligible rant about how he was sad, and how nobody liked him, and how he was useless, and how he didn’t have friends, and—

She stopped him with a raised hand. With a frightening degree of seriousness, the little girl pulled a quarter from her pocket. She held it up in front of him, showing him both sides, and then rubbed it on her shirt to clean it.
“If this lands on heads, you’re right, and nobody likes you.” She explained.
“But if it lands on tails, you’re wrong, and I’m going to like you.”

She tossed it up, caught it, and glanced at it. Tails. He opened his mouth, about to say something, but she stopped him with her hand again.

“Second time.” She began.
“If this lands on heads, then you’re just a regular old person. But if it lands on tails, you’re my new good luck charm.”

She flipped it. Tails again. She smiled.
“Tails never fails.”

And that was the start of the weirdest friendship that Death City has ever seen. Ten year-old Rydel and Seven hit it off, and from that day on they were downright inseparable. Rydel couldn’t tell you the number of crazy schemes that Seven’s pulled him into over the years, even before they ever decided to go to school. And over the years, he likes to think he’s become more comfortable in his skin as well. He’s long since lost his stutter, and learned to balance Seven’s craziness with logic. So while they are indeed a strange team, they are a functioning team. Like a two-person dysfunctional family. And he wouldn’t give it up for anything in the world.
