Yeah, that was ridiculous, my family never had any problems with them and because of my arthritis, I can't lean over too far or stress my back too much, so the drop sided is better because I don't have to stretch over it. I can just bend down a little (which trust me, is much easier) so my mom's keeping my baby brother's cribs for me sad I think it's just retarded, if you lock it properly, the kid can't get it down, and by the time they figure it out, they'll be climbing out of it whether it's drop-sided or not! I'd prefer it being drop sided so that when my kids are old enough to climb out of it, they don't have as far to drop, because you know they're going to either way.

I haven't seen the story, but the fear isn't entirely unfounded - check out the Recall Sticky in the Parenting Subforum - several brands of drop-side cribs have already been recalled. Is this the story you guys meant?: http://www.foxnews.com/search-results/m/28896776/possible-drop-sided-crib-ban-in-new-york.htm#q=drop+side+crib

If they're defective and going to hurt someone, yeah, recall them, but just to stop making them is ridiculous, what about women who have c-sections and depend on it? I learned all of this in my parenting class last year.

I learned all of this in my parenting class last year. Sorry I should've been clearer - I don't have a problem with recalls when the product is defective. But I think putting a complete ban on them is stupid because, as you said, when they're safe and built properly then there shouldn't be an issue right? I dunno, I might not get a drop-side when I have kids just because I'd be too paranoid about something bad happening. But if that was the only thing available to me (such as in your case, you said with your medical issues, or women who've had c-sections), then I guess I'd use it.

I got a drop sided crib for my daughter and love it she is a smart cookie but doesnt know how to unlatch it or climb over it for the fact she has a weird thing about heights.. And I plan to do research and get another one with my next kid because I have to have c-sections ... Gladly Mines is the hardest thing to unlatch and I havent had to do it in months because my daughter is a giant!
