Crossroad's Council
Welcome adventurers to the world of Crossroads. Many of you may have been born and raised here and if that be the case then I bid you good tidings brethren. If your home lay beyond one of the many Portals that dot our lands, I welcome you traveler.
It may be better for me to explain the times we live in now. You see, several decades ago, a mysterious event struck our once desolate world. A pulse of life flushed over the land and, over night, it seemed we were all rejuvenated. It happed so quickly and so long ago that no one remembers what exactly happened. All we know is the result: the Portals.
You see, Crossroads hasn’t always been as you see it. We were a simple planet with low grade technology and no true understanding of things such as magic. But once the Portals were given to us, all this quickly changed.
These Portals were just as much a shock to us as they were to those that lay on the other side. Various worlds were suddenly opened up to us and from these world came many new and wondrous things. Even our very world didn’t have the name Crossroads before the Portals opened.
Through the influence of these various cultures and people, our own world has continually begun to evolve to fit or even mimic the worlds that we are linked to. Every day new discoveries are being made and it is through these discoveries that our world has evolved into what it is now
However, there are those who do not agree with the ‘blending of the worlds’ as this era has come to be called; Those who believe that each world should deal with itself and not meddle in the affairs of others. These people usually mark such issues as the sudden appearance of violent creatures known as “monsters” or “fiends” that arrive through the Portals. While this number is kept low thanks to the common adventures and police forces of today, when the Portals were first opened, we had no way of knowing how to deal with the people that traveled through, not to mention the monsters that followed.
But now, thanks to the efforts of many, our planets' sole uniqueness, the Mother Crystal, has been harnessed to give adventurers an edge in these fights against the common monster. The processes of harnessing this power has been named Magiteck or the study of Magicite. Magicite is best defined as small stones set with the capability of passing on fabulous abilities and magical spells to those who wield it long enough.
There are even a few special stones of Magicite known as Soul Stones. These stones, for which a single person may only use one at a time, infuse the wielder with knowledge of warriors from ages past and from our conjoined worlds.
Alas, not all things are meant to last. Tis why you have been notified today dear Adventurer. Someone is tampering with the Portals. It is believed that their goal is to shut off the Portals and destroy our link to the outside worlds. While our planet has grown to a point where it could sustain itself, there are many here, maybe you among them, that are only visitors. To have them stranded here for possibly forever is completely unacceptable.
We urge the adventurers that have come to love this world as it is to travel to the Portals of the world and seek out those who would destroy our way of life. The only reports given are of a Human and a Moggle. Due to their capability to tamper with the Portals as reported by many scouts, it’s believed the man, of Al Bhed origins, and the Moogle to have acquired quite high level, experimental weapons, and equipment.
Go with good faith and prove to the world your merit my dear friend. But please be careful… I fear something far more sinister may be at hand…
