2005 Fender Standard Series Stratocaster (60th Anniversary) Price Paid: £359 (including new strings, strap, picks, and a gigbag.) Sound: 8/10 Because this is a strat, it is naturally going to have a very versatile tone, and the pickups resprent that. They are vey nice, well balanced single coils. Howver, due to them being single coils, they do hum quite alot. Durability/Reliability: 9/10 This guitar seems to be very reliable. Hey, it's a strat. Some have lasted over 50 years in great shape, so I think this will be fine. Customer Support: N/A Never dealt with Fender, but they guy in the shop was nice. Action, Fit, Finish: 7/10 This guitar has the nicest neck I have ever played. The C-shape neck profile make this guitar a joy to solo on. However some to the hardware left a bit to be desired, like the tuners. this guitar goes out opf tune a fair bit, but that may also have something to do with the floating bridge. Features: 9/10 There are not alot of features, but this isn't supposed to have many features. However, the whammy bar is alot of fun. Overall Rating: 33/40 This is a great guitar. It's just that simple. Almost every aspect of this guitar is great. When I went to the shop, I also played a classic series strat, and this completly blew that away. So if you are looking for a strat, try out the standard series. I'm pretty sure you'll be pleased.

the bose ps1 amp system is insane. although it may come it at a burning $2,000. the performance is incredable. this thing just surrounds you with clear impressive sound. no matter how loud you turn it, this thing wont start distorting the sound you want. compatible for all forms of instrument from guitar, vocals, drums and bass all the way down to the flute if you got a mic for it. its so loud i cant turn it past half way without killing ears and small animals. i dont think i mentioned this unit is portible as hell you can have it put up in less than 2-3 minutes and its unique pole shaped design makes it perfect for storage amongst gear and is light enough you only need one guy to carry it all. if you are searching for a kickass amp that will kill the competition and is relyable for you to perform your best i reccomend the bose ps1. expensive: yes worth it: yes better than sex: yes
overall rating on a 1-10 scale i give this a 9 1/2 why the half you ask. because its dangerous to the ears if used improperly. use protection. your ears are evreything

Product: Shure Beta 57A microphone
(img)
Uses: Primarily used for guitar cabinets and other instruments, this mic is extremely versatile. It can handle so many different applications that it's almost unreal.
Features: Tailored Response, sexy design, and built on pop sheild
Sound quality: Unbelievable. This mic is exactly what I've been searching for. I mean that with a passion. It's absolutely perfect for direct cone-on application since it picks up all of the high end of your sound. I haven't been able to capture this real a tone with the Audio Technica 3035 (A very good mic nonetheless). I'm exceedingly happy with the results and I would reccomend this to anyone looking to clean up the sound they record.
I tested this mic out using my JS 100 and my Epiphone Les Paul (Both with souped up pickups, see other reviews) through my Peavey XXL Cabinet. Talk about true sound. I run through the preamps on my Firewire 410 card which aren't the greatest, but certainly the best that I could possibly afford.
Reliability: It's a Shure mic. It's a Shure thing (Hyuck). On a serious note, I'd probably throw this thing off a cliff and still get the same sound out of it in the end. They're built to last.
Customer support: I'd be suprised if Shure has any, but if they do, I'm sure it's good.
OVerall Rating: For it's intended use: 11/10. Unparallelled sound quality.

Marshall MG100HDFX Halfstack (straight cab) Price paid for: $500 US, (Reular price $599 US)
I got this amp from Guitar Center, they didn't have anymore new ones, so I bought the one they had on display. That's why $100 less than regular price.
Sound: - This amp is really good for the price, this is not a tube Marshall or a Mesa, but it's very good sounding. Even being a little bit smaller than regular Halfstacks Very loud, and also being smaller its lighter to carry for gigs. Good for many styles of music, but the distortion is not enough for metal by itself, so with EMG active pickups works really nice, and probably an overdrive pedal. The only major thing is that it has a lot of bass sound. even with the bass knob all the way down, (but this maybe from the EMG's) and defenately need a noise suppresor because being a halfstack its pure noise.
Durability/Reliability: - It's well built, I've used it for gigs and I've had no problems with it. Customer Support: - Very good, Marshall has a good customer support. I e-mailed them for a problem I had, which I thought i was my amp but ended up being my guitar's volume pot. But the guy was very nice.
Action, Fit, Finish: - I looks gorgeous like all Marshalls.
Features: - 2 channels, Clean/Crunch and OD1/OD2. Reverb knob, 4 other effects including chorus/delay, delay, chorus, and flange. Master volume. two speaker outs, send and return effects input. footswitch. The only thing I didn't like was that it didn't come with casters, but I bought and installed some, which are a most have for gigging, they make moving it so much easier.
Overall Rating: - overall you can't beat the price for the sound, it's better than other competitors out there like the Crate. For being used at guitar center is really good no problems with it. I give it an 8/10.

On a personal note, the last two days I took a trip down to a local music shop I'd never been to before, and got to try out the best, most sexy guitar I've ever had the pleasure of putting my hands on - the same Satriani model Ibanez that Hylian owns.
If you were looking at his review and thought you needed a second opinion, well, I'll just say that it's every bit as nice as he says it is.

Funny you should say this... believe it or not, I played an Ibanez JS1000 yesterday. For a good half hour. While I know this isn't enough to make a sound review, I just want to point out a few things that it can do that the JS100 can't.
1. Harmonics. This guitar has harmonics that I've never heard of. I found one right above the 2nd fret.
2. Bridge. The Edge trem that they use on this and the JEMs now is a killer trem. It will flutter and do almost anything you want it to do, and maybe more.
3. Pickups. This just about goes without saying. Stock pickups for the JS100 are shitty IbZ models and for the JS1000 You get a Dimarzio Paf Joe and either the Fred bridge or the new MOJOE pickup. Wow.
4. Balance. Wow. just wow.

The 1000 costs a pretty penny though, yes?
I'm thinking $700 is alot more affordable than whatever the 1000 is going for right now.
One thing I loved about it was the Ibanez trem (isn't this an Edge as well??). It feels so natural under the blade of my palm, much UNlike the Floyd Rose trems, which I can't stand to play or palm mute on at all (its so unnatrual feeling).

Well.... now if you got to www.ibanezrules.com you can get a really sweet deal on a js1000 and get it set up for you. I've checked it out a few times. I think the money's worth it, but if you don't really want to save up then don't bother; the js100 is a sweet guitar.

I know that reviews used to be paid for, so I'm going to start subsidizing some paid reviews. If you guys make a serious review, I'll shell out 200 gold, and if it's a shorter review, it'll be 100 gold. If you write a line, I'll give you nothing because I'm trying to promote some good reviews for people to get real information about. (I'm also taking up a collection to pay people for reviews, so if you have gold to spare let me know; I'm pretty well off, but If everyone types a monster review, it'll cost a lot of gold D: )
This is in effect as of Today, Jan 27th, 2007.
To Pay: Radriff (Please PM me to confirm you recieved the trade) - Pending Nightmare Sama - 200 g

dean DFH/CFH
[ill post pics of this beast a bit later] Okay so this thing plays amazing, its no secret, as soon as i picked it up at the guitar store i couldn't put it down the words "hella tight" come to mind. I love the V-neck [other Dean fanatics should know what im talking about] my hands fit perfectly around it. although I did have a few technical problems when i first got it this guitar is overall just bloody amazing twisted TONE- 9/10- It does pain me to not give my baby a perfect score on everything, but i have to because im not just a metal player i also play alot of blues and grunge type stuff [but my main focus these days is metal] but for metal this guitar is probably the most insane axe ever, the bridge p/up is really amazing but im not so impressed with the neck p/up which i will probably replace in the future. PLAYABILITY-10/10- I love the way this guitar feels [its neck-thru so i REALLY like the way this guitar feels], when i sit down and play my strat for one of those "7 hour straight" jams my hand would start to cramp up, but with this guitar I can play it all day sitting or standing, the V-Neck is really fast which I like alot, I also like the fact that It can sit like a normal strat shaped guitar or like a Vshaped guitar biggrin LOOKS-9.9/10- Its blue and it has lighting bolts on it and has the coolest head ever, its a flashy guitar and it really stands out compared to my [white] strat, and if your a fan of [gibson] explorers and flying Vs you get the best of both worlds with the top half of an explorer and the bottom of a V, it looks killer but if your into being versitile and are all snobby about flashy suff you probably would not want to be caught dead with this guitar. OVERALL-29.4/30- I really dig this guitar, it works really well, it isnt the most versitile guitar but it just screams when im jamming with my band and it really stands out which i like, sounds great, plays great and looks great, what more could you want?

Tokai Les Paul (post pics soon)
Price paid: $595+tax Canadian. This price for Gibson quality....10/10!!!!
This guitar is EXACTLY like a Gibson! The headstock shape, everything! It's made out of the same woods, same preportions etc. Ofcourse, instead of saying Gibson and les Paul, it says Tokai and Love Rock. but even that is in the same style of writing as in the Gibson.
SOUND: 10/10 Nice. Singing clean tones, great crunch on distortion. honestly. I've played this thing so long and compared it to my Gibson. Only difference in sound is cause of the pickup placement, which i fixed. And unlike Epiphones (which don't have a maple top) this one does, giving that real Les Paul tone.
Durability/Reliability: 9/10 ORIGINALY built like a rock. Those assholes at the shop I bought this were messing around with the strap buttons, and when I stood up to play, the strap button broke. The problem:..........apparently the screw that was originaly on didn't "look chrome-y", so they took it upon themselve to switch it...with a screw that was just slightly skinnier, hence, it coming off.
All is fixed now, and once again, like a ROCK.
Action/Fit/Finish: 9.5/10 Amazing 60's style neck. Unlike my Gibson (and most Gibsons), the varnish on the neck doesn't make the neck all sticky and slow to move. It's like an unfinished neck almost. Pickups were adjusted great. But, I have my own preferances, so i slightly moved them down. But how would they know i wanted it like that? Action was a little low for my liking, causing fret buzz. Easily fixed.
The finish is beautiful. I dunno what it's called though xP. Have you ever seen the music video for Sweet Child O' Mine or Welcome to the Jungle?? The guitar that Slash has, it's that finish. Mine has a cream pickgaurd. not too fond of pickgaurds, but it's surprisingly nice looking on the finish.
Features: 10/10 It has everything a Gibson Les Paul has. I'm not fond or tremelos, and never even use it on my Ibanez. So this being a stoptail bridge is good for me (others would find no tremelo a bad thing).
Overal: 48.5/50 =97% Beautiful. I can now take a quality Les Paul everywhere, from jams with my friends to small gigs (it's all i do so far). I was always parinoid about taking my Gibson to everything I needed a guitar for (you know, wrecking a near $3000 guitar).
Back in the 80's, Tokai started making Les Pauls. EXACTLY like Gibsons. Those even said Les Paul! The Gibson sued. This caused Tokai to take out the Les Paul on the headstock, and replace it with Love Rock, and to make few of these, and more of a different Les Paul madel that looks UGLY. Just recently, Epiphone and even Gibson prices were way down cause people (outside US, Tokai nice LP is illigal in US) were buying Tokai. Gibson sued them again. The nice looking Les Pauls (like mine) are now discontinued. Even the ugly LPs might be discontinued.
If Gibson went this far to stop them, and people were buying this instead of Epiphone and even Gibson, you know it's good.
