With the coming of onslaught, so come creative thinkers and I think technology could actually grow from such an event. The problem of our current weapon system is the fact of noise. Gas/Powder powered projectiles are too loud. There are silencers of course but those can break easily after just a couple clips magazines, and there are weapons that just cant be silenced ex: 50. cal Beretta or most shotguns. (If you want to argue that go ahead but know that that a 50. caliber round breaks the speed of sound before exiting the barrel and most if not all shotguns do not have the threaded barrels which to attach a silencer to)
There are options of course! Here are some of my favorite.
Air Powered:
 Paintball guns and such
Magnetic accelerating rifles Coilgun These can be made with household materials
Railguns
Currently, homemade versions are quite loud and generate a lot of sparks. Though a some ingenuity may be able to fix this problem.
Any ideas?

For one clips is incorrect terminology. Clips were used on M1 garands and some other old-style modeled weapons. Magazine is the correct term. Two, you can silence a 50 cal. Barreta. This is why when you silence them they lose range because it uses a low-velocity round. This won't compromise the silencer. Second shotguns don't need a threaded barrel. Only some types of silencers use these. There are different types meant for shotguns that fit around the muzzle. These simply lengthen the barrel and allow gas to escape in a way that quiets the sound.

So once you find your 50. cal, the specialized silencer and the rounds to go with it, you might as well built have built a something else. And even with these so-called silencers, the crackle of the shot rings for like half a mile. Same with any shotgun silencers.
This isn't mean for arguing the possibility of that kind of s**t. Let's keep on topic. If you're going to take the time to rebut my points, at least carry on with the main intent of the thread. Suggest an idea.

Well I have a little project going on and I think it might work fairly well.
In my workshop(Garage) I'm building a flamthrower. I know all the bad thing about them and how they could possibly just make things worse, but I'm doing it anyway and to see if I could acually do it.
If you want my list as of so far I would be happy to share.

I have worked on a system for making a laser gun. I'm serious. I think it would work. Hard part is getting the main component which is a small laser to power it. Plus power issuses come into affect so I don't know if this would be very effective if I could make it and get it to work. But it would be cool to have. $D

I love the idea of railguns, so interesting!
But, uh, I'm just wondering in the first place, where the hell are you going to get a 50 Caliber anyway? It's completely illegal to own one and you'd have to be a specialized military user to even USE one, which I doubt any of us are. Let's just stick to the easy way, shall we?
As for air powered guns, do you mean like CO2 cartridges and airsofts? I hear they can be pretty powerful (we have one that actually HAS a pretty good recoil), but can they actually penetrate bone?
This thread is interesting...
But, a laser gun? I'm sorry but I doubt it would work correctly.

Actually I have used a 50 cal. before. My uncle is a specialist in using them. He let me use it. It almost blew my shoulder out the first time I used it, but I still did.
Also I am not kidding, my idea for a laser gun involves using a bunch of prismas with a samall laser to start the reaction. As it travels through the prisms it would spread making it become multiple lasers. The main problem is getting the first laser. After that only other problem is keeping clean so it doesn't mess up, making sure everynow now and then that the prisms are in correct alingnment, and keeping a power supply for it.

My friend and I were thinking of a predator type triple laser configuration. I suggested using 3 burning lasers (Like the 20$ pen lasers) attached to a rifle and all aimed at one point at a distance of say 20 inches or so. We would use it for a lock breaker or a head zapper if we ran out of ammo. Kinda like a laser bayonet.
Also, I think I should add hydraulics. I've been thinking of a trap where someone would jump down onto a platform pushing their 100lbs+ of pressure onto a hydraulic system attached to a thin metal spear in the wall next to them. Landing into suicide. The main intent being zombies of course, but maybe people depending on the situation.

Well at least somebody understands how this could actually work.
I had an idea of simply wrapping a bunch of different tripwires to a series of shotguns all at different heights and postitions to increase chances of blowing a zombies head off. But mainly this would be like a warning system. So like when people are sleeping if a zombie sets off a tripwire so the shotguns go off then that would wake everyone and alert them to a zombie or whatever.

You could make shot gun shell land mines but, once a zombies gets shot, his friends are probably close by. Don't want to attract a horde when you're sleeping comfy in your PJs.

For me a good improv weapon would take a pressurized air can strapped to me back. the PSI would be really high and the tube would have a large cylinder. When I released the air it would shoot out whatever I had in the cylindrical container. Something like golf balls or something. Enough pressure would put a hole though a rotting zombie head.

I was thinking bolt action paintball guns with shredder rounds. The round would just be sharp metal spikes about the size of a wooden pencil led all taped together. Then they fly out and raep urrything.
