Personality: A lot of Rikujin's character analysis is based off of the theme of Reincarnation and Revival. One of the most central themes of Rikujin's character is the theme of the Phoenix, which is evident in several of his techniques and his summoning.
Along with that theme is Rikujin's feelings about Reincarnation and moving through troubled times. He always faces danger and strife no matter how difficult the conflict may be, knowing that he can always come out of it "reborn" in a way.

Detailed Biography:
The Katsurou Clan is a small clan in Konoha. They were never known for any specific skills in battle. In fact, most Katsurou Shinobi died in the battlefield relatively early in their careers. It was Rikujin Katsurou who broke the stigma of the Katsurou shinobi. Rikujin was the an above average student in the Academy, graduating at the age of 8. His parents did not desire him to be in the battlefield at such a young age, so they withheld him from taking the Genin exam until he was 10. All of that time, Rikujin continued to build up his Chakra usage ability and his chakra storage.
By the time Rikujin had become a Genin, the whole world was thrust into war. The Hokage at the time personally trained a small group of Genin, of which Rikujin was included. As the others trained, Rikujin only seemed to sit in the background. Competition was growing for the Hokage's attention, yet Rikujin took no part. He continued his private training without assistance.
Rikujin began to fall behind his peers, who began to excel in combat skills. Yet, he still continued on his own path. That is, until the Hokage finally counseled the young Katsurou ninja. The Hokage could see that Rikujin's potential far outclassed the rest of his peers, but it hadn't been developed on. Rikujin still stood adamant in his attempts to train himself. This frustrated the Hokage to the point at which he began to leave scrolls for the young Genin in his house.
It took some time, but Rikujin finally gave in. He began to practice the Fire Jutsu on the scrolls. Though he was still a Genin, he could learn up to B-Ranked ninjutsu. He had even learned the Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu.
Rikujin's peers knew nothing of his personal progress. They always put him down and viewed him as inferior... All except one. The Uchiha clan had a small boom in population just before the Great Shinobi War had broken out, generating a large population of new Uchiha Shinobi. His name was Masuke Uchiha and he was the new "Shining Star" of the Uchiha Clan, much like Itachi. He had developed his Sharingan early in age and had already achieved two of his Tomoe.
Rikujin and Masuke's soon to be rivalry turned to friendship. The two turned out to be best of friends. They did everything together. They trained together secretly, they ate at the same restaurants (frequenting Ichiraku Ramen), etc.
The Hokage, realizing Rikujin's progress, finally taught him an A-Ranked Ninjutsu. Being the student of Konohamaru Sarutobi, the Hokage had learned the 4th Hokage's custom technique, the Rasengan. Rikujin learned it faster than any other student that had learned it before, already having exemplary chakra control. Rikujin, Masuke, and the Hokage kept this a secret from the other Genin.
Time passed, and at the age of 12, the entirety of the Hokage's Genin squad passed the Chunin exam. The now Chunin had no idea how Rikujin passed the exam. That is... Until they were sent into their first War-Battle.
It was Rikujin and Masuke who excelled in this battle, incapacitating entire squads on their own. The rest of the Chunin stood in fear... Fear of death. It was then that Rikujin spoke his Nindo: his ninja way. "Walking along the lantern-lit path doesn't teach self-preservation. Jump into the abyss and fight your way out!"
The battle was a resounding victory for the Country of Fire.
By the age of 14, Rikujin and Masuke were two of the three Chunin that were promoted to Jounin. Meanwhile, Rikujin had began to master Earth Release Jutsu. War was getting more and more intense. The three were beginning to gain more and more fame as more and more armies fell at their hands. Their bonds grew and grew. They were like a family. A family that was about to get torn apart...
Conditions were stormy... The Leaf Village was in a heated battle with the Cloud Village. The three Jounin were highly outnumbered against the Kumo ninja. One by one, the Konoha shinobi were being struck down. The Cloud-nin were powered by the storm. It was their advantage.
In a flurry, the Jounin entered the fray, slaughtering countless ninja. Yet, they kept coming. Amongst the chaos, the thunderous crack of lightning silenced the battlefield. There, lying dead, was the third Jounin in Rikujin and Masuke's squad. Fighting back tears, Rikujin fought on, but it was Masuke who took the biggest blow. His crimson eyes suddenly changed as his tears became drenched with blood. Black Flames overtook entire sections of Cloud-nin. Masuke's Mangekyou Sharingan had activated; Amaterasu was unleashed upon the legions of Cloud Ninja. It wasn't long until Masuke lost control. The flames grew closer and closer to the last two Leaf Ninja until Rikujin was forced to escape the flames and fled.
Over the next three years, in the wake of Masuke's apparent death, Rikujin did all he could to learn about the Sharingan and the entirety of the clans of the Leaf Village. Though peaceful talks had begun, many groups of Ninja continued to fight. They fought until every Kage was suddenly assassinated. In the Chaos, Rikujin was named the Hokage through his Sensei's last will. He was effectively the youngest Village Leader since Gaara of the Sand.
