Truth be told, I thought it would be Bolvar from the moment I saw the cut scene in Halls of Reflection with Uther, saying that there must always be a Lich King, confirming long-time speculation for the matter. I thought this for three reasons.

One: Bolvar's a BADASS. Wyrnn totally flopped and just became a jerk, even in the eyes of the Alliance after the Wrathgate battle. Bolvar has been the Alliance 'king' for five years previous, and is also open to negotiation with the Horde. He HAD to have a heroic ending.

Two: When you first enter Icecrown, you find that Bolvar is not dead, and nor has he given himself to the Lich King's torture as Saurfang the Younger had, but you also find out that terrible things have been done to his soul. There could be no rest for him in the living.

Three: This is the most important. With Bolvar alive, peace between the Alliance and Horde is a very real possibility. Well... What kind of game would World of Warcraft be if the WAR part was resolved? Blizzard had to get him out of the way, and keep him out of the way. Now, with Bolvar gone, the Horde have lost a voice in Wyrnn's court. The war will continue. And thus, so will the game.
