For me, it's not weight that bothers me since my weight has been pretty consistent for years (the only change is muscle -> flab due to lack of exercise because of various athletics-related injuries). I am normal for BMI apparently and most people say I'm fine and would be better if I toned back again. :/

Anyway, yes there is also the influence of media and what people say (or what I used to say) that make me self-conscious about the shape, but never weight of my body.

My point is, weight isn't as much the issue (for most) as much as how a female feels about their body and how the form fits into clothing. Most clothing I see are made for certain types of bodies: bodies of models or thinner folk. People that have some extra meat here and there are bound to look less attractive in the tighter fashions as well and that makes a lot of people upset, especially if they wish to wear those things, you know?

The only reason I see of why weight is a sensitive issue is because sometime during our growth, we were taught that if you were heavier than average, that equated to being overweight (not taking muscle into account, as mentioned before in this thread).

Personally, I think that some women really do need to think that they're fat and then go out and do something about it. It's not healthy to live like that, generally. Can some people be both fat and relatively healthy? Yes, some people could, but it would take an extremely slow metabolism, which I'm sure would be a medical issue of its own.

And as for women who think they're fat when they're not, it rather irks me. People should be living their life to the fullest, not bothering over five or ten pounds. I'm of the opinion that food should be enjoyed, and avoiding foods you love just because they're "fattening" is a bit ridiculous. I, personally, believe that in nearly all cases, just exercising enough and correctly is adequate to maintain a healthy weight.

I've been underweight most of my life, though recently I've actually attained a "normal" BMI due to muscle mass. While it's not a perfect measure due to different body types, it's pretty close for most people. And the people that tend to complain about it are those who fit into my first category, people who are overweight but don't want to admit it. The people I know who hit "overweight" on that scale due to muscle just laugh about it.

I don't think I'm overweight.
Actually, I know I'm not overweight.
I just have really bad self esteem issues.
So I just have a fear of gaining weight.
I have to take birth control for health reasons and for some people it can cause weight gain, so my main goal right now is to not gain weight while I'm on bc.
If I lose weight though I wouldn't complain, I'm in-between pant sizes right now and it's a good self esteem boost when you can move to the lower size o.o

According to what I read my "ideal weight" should be I'm about 6 pounds over weight. Do I care? No. I don't care what the book says, I'm not overweight, either way 6 pounds really isn't that much.

I remember these two girls that were in my dance class complaining about being fat. They both were was thin as sticks, and a lot thinner then me. I told them they weren't overweight, and didn't need a diet. They said they did, I asked if by their standards they thought I need to go on a diet they said no. Obviously they had some issues since I was at least 10 pounds more then either of them, and they thought they needed a diet and I didn't. I've really never thought that I needed to go on a diet, if I feel I'm a bit overweight I just exercise a bit and it works.

I don't get why people would worry about weight so much, I mean if they are really over/under weight then it could be something to worry about. But otherwise, I don't see the point. There is so much to life; why waste it on useless worrying?

Themselves. It's not always about men talk2hand
>.< Personally I care about my weight a lot. I've gained about 5 lbs and I hate it. It makes me feel bloated and gross (and I don't want to continue to gain weight because a lot of women on my mom's side are obese cows and I just don't want to look like that).

D= I hate the BMI it's really inaccurate back when I was 110lbs it said I was overweight and I'm like T^T I can't loose anymore weight unless it's in the breast area and I like the fat there

This album pretty much shows how ******** up that thing is. (It shows different people and what the BMI classifies them as, and some of them are reeeally surprising)

So far I've had two professors tell me that the BMI isn't always accurate but it's close most of the time, the major exception being muscular people. confused

/didn't read the thread, sorry if this was already said.

I'm incredibly underweight (not by disease or anything, I just can't gain weight x.x). My only issue is when I feel like my face looks wider/bubbly/sj;klfj. Cause that makes me look 13 years old, and I can't stand that. But that's about it.

And I do agree with you. I constantly have to tell my friends that they're not fat, but they won't believe me. Only if I bring up a truly fat person, then they'll shut up. For five minutes.

I honestly do not understand them either. My guess is that they think they'll only be attractive if they weigh less, and that their friends / boyfriends / etc. are lying to make them feel better.

Omg I know that issue. I think my only issue with my is photos. Because I HATE getting my photo taken. But I'm happy to be curvy for the most part. But at the same time I want to be healtier like I used to be in volleyball. I get tired of my friends saying they're fat. I'm like, "Hey! I'm fatter than you. There's no way in the world you're fat, you're only 110. Don't expect to be a size 1. It's impossible."

Sometimes though you just need to appreciate the body you're given. (because I have tried to loose weight before, nothing works). Like my mom said, "it's better to be fat and alive, than dead and thin."
