Yulu decided to let Layla be on her own for a moment, recalling that the girl had already touched more eggs and was probably almost done with her rounds, prompting herself to take a quick stride across the sands and over to the egg that was laying on its side. It possessed an odd color and even odder markings, and Yulu's mind was puzzled as she pressed her hand against the Three Spots.
Its apparent amusement made her actually turn her head and look around to see if anything was funny, though she quickly dismissed the thought as a dragonets own personal brand of humor. Yulu herself wasn't much in the way of getting jokes from others, her actual grasp on humor very limited to the point it was almost completely dry.
Whatever this joke was she failed to see it, and slowly she crossed back over the sands to join Layla at the gray egg.

Yulu was heading away... but that was fine, she still had several more eggs to touch from what she'd seen. It wasn't as if anything was going to eat her or even nibble on her mildly here anyway. Worst case scenario, she fell on her face and looked like a fool... or maybe fell face first onto and egg and either broke it, or broke her face. Probably her face by the feel of those shells.
Still, though she hardly 'moved with the powerful grace of a feline' or anything like that, Layla was no klutz, and she made it to the grey speckled egg without incident. Last one, she'd guessed a blue here and saw no reason to revise her bet by the look of it alone. Stooping, she laid her hands on the shell to see if that altered her outlook...
Well, she got not strong male or female vibes from it; all she got was an almost overpowering urge to yawn. This egg seemed very sleepy, not too interested in what all the other eggs might be up to. Another yawn tried to ambush her, but Layla fought against her jaw muscles with determination; last thing she wanted to do was start yawing on the sands!
Still, she felt more relaxed again after touching the grey egg; she couldn't imagine this one leaving a trail of carnage behind it for sure. Giving the shell as last pat, Layla straightened up and moved away from the clutch to the edge of the sands; she'd just stay here out of the way until Yulu aught up.

Yulu made it back over to where Layla was just as the girl finished up touching the egg, and Yulu looked down at her hand before placing it atop the Grey Speckled egg.
A feeling of lethargy started to creep into her body through her hand, her eyes growing heavy as her mind told her that it was okay to relax and do nothing at all. It wasn't that she was feeling tired on her own, far from it, but she couldn't deny that the interference from the egg wasn't effecting her and making her at least a little drowsy. She managed to keep a yawn in as she moved away, telling herself that a dragon like that would be more trouble than it was worth as well - one that would have to be motivated all the time to do things. Yulu wasn't interested in that.
Seeing that Layla was now waiting near the entrance and Yulu only had one egg left to touch, the young woman sucked it up and went over to the last remaining egg, plopping her hand down atop the Pink Charcoal egg.
It was a pleasant enough feeling, one that Yulu didn't find that bad, but the way it seemed to be wanting something from someone was certainly not in her interests. She was going to have to be independent should she impress here, Telgar not looking too kindly on female riders, so a dragon that wanted to be with others would only become a hassle. She pulled her hand off it and started towards the other girl was waiting, smiling as she was ready to leave the sands.

Layla watched as Yulu touched the pink charcoal egg with a slight smile, remembering the feeling she'd got from it. It had seemed... friendly? Like it would turn into a nice sort of dragon anyway. The streaked sky hadn't been quite so nice; it hadn't seemed to like her touching it in the least... She still hoped that it wasn't her it hate disliked. The three spots egg had made her smile, she thought it was going to turn out to be a quirky sort, the sort to see the fun in life.
The blue earth egg had seemed like another friendly one, pleased to be touched, it probably wouldn't have got bored of her any time soon if she'd been able to linger... That feeling of being accepted had been chased away by the impatience of the spicy red egg; for all she knew touching that one had just made it cross enough with her that it would seek her out to give her a good trampling when it came out of its shell. Perhaps, however, it would be restrained by the dragon inside the golden stag egg. She got the feeling that the little queen wouldn't let harm befall anyone if she could help it.
She hadn't been too sure what to make of the new grass egg, still wasn't. Did it want comfort from the queen, or attention from everyone else? Had her feelings from it been vague because it wasn't meant for her, or because it just wasn't a very extroverted egg? She had no idea at all... but she did know that she'd be careful of the orange stripe egg; that was not going to hatch out into a very happy dragonet, she'd lay good marks on that. Finally, there had been the grey speckled; she was still fighting a feeling of weariness from touching that one, and had to wonder if it was actually lazy, or just very very laid back or something...
Still, there would be plenty to time to speculate later; Yulu was coming towards her now. Offering the other girl a smile, Layla turned and walked off the sands. Glancing back before they were out of sight of the eggs, she even managed a little grin. She might be nervous, she might not know what to expect, but she was still excited too. She might just have met her lifemate for the first time. Hope. That was the thing. She just had to hope.

Oh my goodness, wasn't this just the best thing? Lelia's skin tingled with excitement. Being a female at Telgar, it wasn't an everday occurence to be allowed at a touching; and she relished every moment of it. Just as interesting as the eggs though were the people touching them. These were all people she knew! And what's more, they were touching dragon eggs. Well, that much was obvious; but what she meant was, well...these were all people she knew, touching eggs that would hatch into dragons she would know. One couldn't know who would impress and who woudn't, that was the dragonet's choice, but...this was all very exciting to Lelia, to say the least.
The idea of impressing a dragon herself was mighty tantalizing, but...she couldn't know if it was her time. The dragonet would choose. She could only hope and have faith that her dragon was here; forget Telgar and their prejudice, Lelia would be happy to impress any dragon. She threw smiles in the directions of the various people who happened to look her way, before she slowly, carefully picked her way over to the 'Pink Charcoal' egg. It was so cute, happy and...pink. How charming it seemed, eager to be with its clutchmates. Or was that just her mind playing tricks on her, how could an egg think that? Lelia couldn't be sure, but as she ran a hand over the warm shell, she couldn't ignore the pleasant vibe the egg gave off. Eggs with feelings? There were stranger things in life; who knew the full abilities of the dragons. Why couldn't the eggs have feelings?
Pondering this bit, Lelia moved over to touch the 'Streaked Sky' egg, but withdrew her hand quickly. Yikes! It felt so, so angry! She bent down a little and leaned in, to look over the shell with interest, but refrained from touching it again. "You shouldn't be so angry, little one," she whispered. "Some one out here, they are waiting for you to hatch and they will love you very much. You shouldn't be angry. Life is good," she concluded. Should she feel silly for lecturing an egg? Maybe. But it didn't matter, she was enjoying herself, and if she wasn't causing any harm, what did it matter?
Finished with the angry egg, Lelia made her way over to the 'Grey Speckled' egg; fighting to keep the dance out of her step. This was just such a momentous occasion, she wanted to celebrate, but she supposed there would be plenty of time to celebrate after the hatching, which wasn't far off now. She took a deepbreath and quickly regained her composure, toning down the brilliant grin splitting her face. Eggs now. Singing and dancing later. She caressed the 'Grey Speckled' egg but...didn't feel to much. Was it unreceptive to her? Not interested? Why was she feeling tired? Chalking it up to another thing she couldn't explain, Lelia left the sleepy egg to search for the company of others, human and dragon egg alike.

This was the end of them. This was the reason she had been Searched in the first place, and the object of a dream she'd coveted as a little girl, until she grew up. When people got a little older, dreams changed.
Her mother had told her that as a very little girl she had wanted to be a Hearer. Jadamirei couldn't remember those days, but the thought of it made her laugh. She didn't have the stomach for such things as her mother dealt with; growing up in Healer Hall she'd been good for nothing but delivering bandages and messages, tottering around aimlessly. having her father discover her musical potential had been a fabulous stroke of luck. It was at Harper Hall that she'd thought to have found the place she belonged.
It was at Harper Hall that she thought she had found a dream. It was a simple dream, really. Or so she'd thought. Oh, it was a dream that would take decades to achieve, but over the four and a half turns she'd been at the Hall, she'd found a niche for herself. She'd planned to rise through the ranks, becoming a journeyman, a senior journeyman, and someday a Master Singer. She'd thought her goal firm. Thought herself on the path her life would take.
The day the Weyr had come Searching had proved otherwise, and here she was, at the standing in front of the egg that was the entire reason the Weyr had bothered looking outside. It was more than mildly intimidating. During her time here, she had come to the conclusion that she would be just as happy with a green as a gold dragon; she still couldn't hold back the tight feeling in her chest that said, 'what if?'
Reaching out, her palms came to rest on the Golden Stag Egg. It felt so secure. Comfortable. It knew what it was, what it was going to be. So unlike a person; there were not so many different options for a dragon. As a Queen egg, the dragonet within had a place in life that was predetermined by nature itself. Jada smiled, the twist of her lips something wry. Lucky little creature. She remained there for a few moments, basking in the feeling of calm that almost oozed from the egg before stepping away.
One last bow to Gold Kaveth, a polite one to Weyrwoman Malkai and Weyrleader I'dan, and she moved off of the sands.

Tala walked warily onto the sand, struck dumb with amazement. This was nothing like what she was used to. The hot sand under her feet felt wonderful at the moment but she knew soon it would start to become uncomfortable. Looking around at the other candidates she realized just how few people she knew. Shrugging to herself she moved towards the eggs. All the better she thought, I can just focus on the eggs. She decided to get the worst over and done with. Moving quickly she went straight for the The Golden Stag Egg. As she moved up next to it she felt the same calm she got when she was around the runners. Strange...you would expect a queen egg to be high strung. Shrugging, she ran her hands over the warm egg, loving the warmth tingle along her palms.
Moving to the Spicy Red Egg she placed her hands on it next. She suddenly just wanted to move on to the next egg as soon as possible. This one was much stronger and it was definitely impatient. But for what?
Moving quickly away she laid her hands on the Three Spots Egg. Or at least she would have if it was upright. For some reason this made her giggle. Reaching out she brushed her hand across its surface and was delighted to find that the egg seemed amused as well. Her smile broke into a full sized grin at this. Not only was the egg jilted but it seemed amused by that very fact.
Glancing around she saw that most everyone had made their rounds already...better hurry this up then.
Moving away from the Three Spots Egg she made her way over to The Pink Charcoal Egg. This egg wanted to be involved more than she liked but as she grazed her hand across its surface she couldn't help but smile. This one wasn't the bright cheerfulness of the last egg but it was pleasant. Though the distinct feeling of wanting to be involved didn't quite agree with Tala who preferred her solitude most times.

From his position against the wall Tofir continued to observe the other candidates as they made their first acquaintances with the eggs. His note taking was not as methodical as he would have liked, but that's because he couldn't decide whether he wanted to take notes by egg or by person. In the end, he decided to do a little of both, which meant that he was writing furiously, trying to watching and record everything at once. He was extremely happy to be here, doing this, in spite of the frown that drew his thick eyebrows together. It was a frown of concentration.
And then the worst thing imaginable happened: his piece of chalk broke. The larger part of it went flying into the distance, though fortunately not toward the eggs. In his hand he was left with a piece barely half the length of his littlest finger. With hands the size his were, it would be impossible to write legibly with such a piece of chalk, which meant that his Touching experience was basically over. There was nothing more he could do unless there were any eggs he wanted to touch again, and the researcher in him told him that if he touched one again he'd have to touch them all again, and he didn't think there'd be time for that.
He swore fiercely under his breath and moved to the door, bowing to the enormous gold before stepping off the sands. Well. At least he'd managed to memorize everything he'd written. That would just have to do. He'd probably be up all night transcribing his notes anyway. It was for the best, he told himself.
