"Really? I figured you'd hear more often then I would. I'm someone's scapegoat, usually, or the rolemodel not really a friend." She smiled, a little sad at the admission, "But yeah... there's been a lot of tense people lately. Even the wingleaders and the like are worried. I don't know what, though. Hopefully it's just pressure from the last harvest. Poor High Telgar Hold tithes to both Weyrs but we need all we can get."
She pursed her lips as they entered one of the great halls, Sharath at their side, "Could also just be rumour. People do tend to gossip."

"I just wish they'd be more specific. I'm never really sure of what they're talking about, and when I ask I get looked at like I'm a dimglow who'd best learn to keep his mouth shut. Mostly now that's how I stay while I work and I find it not that hard to hear a bit more."
Panata paused for a moment to allow Sharath and Amelia lead way into the hall, not wanting to be seen walking in front of them. It wasn't so much an act of respect as it was general courtesy, as he didn't want to slow his pace and make things awkward for the pair as they moved. A large gold and a woman laden down with flitts certainly wouldn't get around that easily.
"I do hope it's all rumors though, as none of it seems any good. Every now and then though people talk about the Clutch over at Telgar, and that always has my interest. They say that there is a Queen egg there too."

She nodded, "Hopefully it's just rumours, like I said. If it's anything major, I'm certain Luci and D'astel will make it known. The Weyr has to prepare, one way or another, for the good and the bad." Amelia shrugged as they entered the hall and blinked as Panata fell behind.
Sharath paused, as well as Amelia, and the pair waited for him to join them so they could walk side by side, "There's a gold egg? That's good! I wonder how their Junior Weyrwoman will take that, though. I heard she'd none to pleased about losing out. Do you know how many eggs are in the clutch? The Telgar folk will let girls stand this time around - though I think it's silly that the only reason women should stand are for golds."
Her dragon rumbled, reminding Amelia (unncessarily) that she was still there and the girl laughed, "I meant that women can be the life mates of more then just golds. Girls dream of golds because the queens are prestige and power." Amelia chuckled then, "You still have to work and take care like all the other riders, it's not just all play."

"I don't really know much more than what idle talk I can pick up, but I think they said around eight or nine eggs? It would have to be nine if they're counting the Gold egg, since they had said something about 'eight chances to shuffle ranks'. I didn't get much more then that, they noticed I was listening and walked off. I guess I am not nearly as good at eavesdropping as I had hoped to be."
The youth chuckled a little sheepishly at the memory, the look on their faces and the one on his own quite different when they found him out. He had to apologize a few times to get on their good sides once again, but sadly the pair of gossips had stopped speaking with him present. It wasn't as though he liked spreading rumors, so Panata couldn't really understand why they did it.
"I also think it's a little silly that girls can't always stand, but maybe I've gotten this way because of being here at High Reaches. I have heard Telgar is far more traditional then we are, so it's not that surprising."

"Maybe I'll ask Luci. She should know about that sort of thing." Amelia replied thoughtfully. News of clutches at other Weyrs interested her and while eight eggs seemed a small number, there was apparently a gold in that clutch. Dorath's curse would not be upon them this time.
"Makes me glad I was born and raised here. High Reaches has more opportunity I think. Or at least, people do seem fond of it." She murmured before turning her attention away from the people who were going the opposite direction of them, "Let's get warmed up, hey? I'll go grab some hot klah from the kitchens then we can go play games - I found a pair of dice among Ulysses stash the other day so maybe we can play for pebbles."

"Oh, a game sounds fun! I haven't played any games in a long time, I'm presumably really rusty. I used to be quite good, my sister and brother always losing to me whenever we tried out hands at anything. I think that might have lead to why they avoided me whenever I wanted to play something and the eventual decline of my skills."
Panata sounded so happy to be invited to play a game, any game, and he was even more happy that it was with Amelia. He hadn't thought her the type to like games, good for her, and he would make sure to thank her later for her generosity in letting him play with her.
"Also, klah sounds wonderful, so yes please very much. I'm not overly fond of it, didn't drink much of it at the Hold or Crafthall, but I find it growing on me while I'm here at the Weyr. It must be because it's so warm while everything else is so cold."

Amelia chuckled at that, "I'm no great gambler either, but it's something to pass the evening with. We'll have to see who comes out with the most pebbles... maybe the winner gets some sort of prize?" She was joking of course and grinned as she veered off towards the kitchens. "I've always liked it. It's bitter but, like you said, it warms you right up. Can't complain about that."
"Klah, dice games, and a friend to share both with. Sounds like fun." The goldrider spoke pleasantly, obviously looking forward to a low-key evening.
