Seriously, as an owner of a large guild, I don't understand why you'd want to "purge" your memberlist. I've seen other guilds do this, and it makes no sense. Some people, like myself, like lurking. I'm a fan of 24, and I like reading the posts here, is that such a bad thing?
The main reason why I don't understand the purge mentality (and I've seen other guilds with it) is that by lowering your member count, you lower your "guild rating" that gaia uses in its search engines. When people make any search where this guild could be relevant, having fewer members will simply make you appear lower on the list. On top of this the majority of people on gaia are more attracted to larger guilds, even if many of the members don't say much. If your overall goal is to have active people posting about 24 (which would make sense), then making your guild less attractive overall would be counter productive.
Just my two cents as the owner of a 2,000+ member guild on video gaming. (Not trying to brag, but I feel that I have some experience, so trying to understand the mentality of purging memberlists)

i guess you can look at it this way.
this guild was established many moons ago. with that, the amount of members that may be inactive with gaia would also affect this guild. it is an indiciation if not an updated list of active members who either, like yourself, like to read the posts and gather thoughts of fellow guild members, or they participate in the guild's new contests and posts their thoughts to the subjects that are current in the forum.
i do hope after this purge, it will be a better way of knowing that the people that are listed on the members list are all active members, whether they choose to post, or not.

ok I see both sides. smile I was unaware that there are guild ratings. My reasoning for purging is to reduce the member list to those who are active. We create these games and contests for a reason. we want people to participate. That is what a guild is about, not only lurking and non interacting. I, as the owner, would appreciate conversation, or an entry into a contest... SOMETHING to let me know that you are still interested in being here. I have the right to know who is and who isn't, and the right to remove as necessary. And I don't see a purging is a bad thing. It worked wonders for my other guildS. It increased productivity by twice as much. I don't care about ratings, I care about a happy active guild. And you should understand that a good guild is an active guild, since you run a high profile guild. It's not a double standard, here. But as I said, I see both point of views. smile And because this is now an issue with other members, it's something that I cannot do at the moment. Until this is no longer an issue, I cannot move forward. And nobody saying lurking is a bad thing. I lurk, too. But I try to post as often as I remember to. I make an effort to be a part of the guild. But please be aware, I have the right to remove members as I see fit (only if absolutely necessary), if I haven't heard from them (geez since I signed up), then I don't deem them as active members. Sorry, but that's the way I see it. Any issues anyone has with the guild or members, please contact me or any other vp first for assistance before posting in the guild. Give the staff a chance to help remedy the situation before making it public. biggrin Please take a moment to read the ToS in the main forum. This explains the rules of the guild.
