The War.

Never-ending, it rages on for eternity. Three sides oppose each other, forever locked in an unrelenting battle for control. What started as a bid for power grew into a three-way brawl between equally powerful empires as they attempted to assert their dominance over the others.

We speak, of course, of the Romance. Not romance in the sense of Shakespeare, or even Twilight. We speak of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The story begins in China, long ago in the days of the empires. At the fall of the great Han Dynasty, the power vacuum is born that must quickly be filled. However, unlike the order that existed in the years before, there is no set successor. So, the existing factions that have their own power each believe that the Imperial Seal is theirs for the taking.

Their battles were long and fierce. Each side lost their share of the greatest warriors and tacticians ever known. Decisions were made; lives were saved, others lost; traitors and saviors abounded. The forces of Wu, Shu, and Wei battled for many generations, though in the end none could be said to have been a true winner.

Time passed and their empires faded. Dynasties fell and the world continued to turn. These great men and women, this great struggle - lost to legend. It seemed that this war, which dominated the lives of so many people and swayed history like no conflict before it, would be relegated to an obscure tale.

Enter the Modern Day. February 25th, 2012. The sudden death of the leaders of the greatest shadow army in the world causes a pressing need for leadership. In the midst of this turmoil, identical to the situation in Imperial China, the spirits of the warriors of the ancient conflict find an entry. They have waited for over 1800 years for a parallel such as this to exist so that they might make their entry.

The lives of nearly 50 people are radically altered as, in an attempt to make sure that their story is told, the spirits of the greatest generals and heroes of the great Dynasty War are reincarnated inside of them. They are filled with the goals and aspirations of their new patron spirits; they were chosen because they already shared character traits with the spirit they host. When the ancient spirits entered their new hosts, the hosts found themselves filled with new goals, desires, and feelings, though the people themselves remained mostly unchanged. Now, however, they are fated to continue the battle of the long-forgotten past.

This RP is based around the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. While this is a lot of reading and isn't necessary to play, this knowledge will only serve to enhance the experience. Please, read this if you have the time.

The Forces At War.

The factions that are locked in battle are known as the Wu, the Wei, and the Shu.

The Wei are commanded by the ruthless and calculating Cao Cao (pronounced Tsao-Tsao). Their color is blue, and they are known for their military might. Their disciplined armies are the terror of their enemies, acting with precision and without hesitation.

The green faction of the Wu is commanded by the compassionate and well-loved Liu Bei. This great man was known for his ability to inspire followers willing to die for him, even untrained peasants, and he was by far the most liked of the rulers.

The final faction, the Shu, were guerrilla warriors and savvy tacticians. Though initially wracked with internal strife, this family-oriented red dynasty was full of powerful warriors and brilliant minds. They worked for peace and order.

The three dynasties battled, both directly and indirectly through politics, to seize control over the Imperial Seal of China and rule the others. Now, in the modern world, the three factions are once again embroiled in a conflict for control. There are, as before, a handful of powerful players that follow no dynasty, though these are harder to come by as the battle progresses.

And now, the battle unfolds.

Heroes of Wei.

Cao Cao - The Hero of Chaos

The ruler of the Wei Dynasty and the man who sets out from nothing to seize the world. He is an able commander, capable of making cold and necessary decisions. Cao Cao is ambitious to the max and is said to "thrive amongst chaos." He is distrusting of everyone around him and goes from a loyal servant of the Han to a power-hungry commander in his own right.

He wields the royal sword. Cao Cao fights with grace and excellence, with less focus on power than on finesse.

Cao Pi - The Young Prince

The son of Cao Cao, Cao Pi is raised to be both royal and ruthless. He is, like his father, very skilled in the arts of war and politics.

Like his father, Cao Pi wields the royal sword, though at times has been known to take up twin swords called Chaos. His style is similar to his father's.

Cao Ren - The Peaceful General

The young cousin of Cao Cao, Cao Ren is the only officer of the Wei forces that is focused on peace, not on conquest. He goes into battle with the intent of creating a peaceful world, not a world of the Wei. He is determined, loyal, and unwavering.

His rock-steady fighting style is accented by his heavy focus on defense: in ancient times he was known to wear heavy armor and fight with a spiked shield.

Dian Wei - The Ogre Guardian

Fiercely devoted to his master Cao Cao, Dian Wei was a huge, muscular berserk whose intimidating exterior shielded his actual tenderheartedness and naivety. He was not concerned with anything beyond keeping his friend and ally Cao Cao safe from all harm. The politics and happenings of the great commanders were lost on this man. He is called an "ogre," which he takes as a compliment.

The powerful bodyguard wielded a massive ball and chain, using a wide and crushing style to defeat his opponents (though his allies usually had to steer clear).

Pang De - The Heavenly Halberd

This armored warrior was surprisingly agile. Though he was forced to switch allegiances multiple times, he was nonetheless a faithful and devoted vassal who was far-seeing and wanted to serve the greatest purpose with his life.

He wields twin halberds with devastating precision, able to easily move himself and his forces through waves of enemies without flagging.

Sima Yi - The Grand Tactician

Cunning, ruthless, and absolutely brilliant, Sima Yi is also arrogant and hates to lose. Always striving to outmatch his rival, Zhuge Liang, he makes excuses every time things go wrong, claiming "it's a part of a larger plan." Still, he has a fair share of victories, and is an incredibly bright and gifted strategist. He keeps his more lofty plans to himself, however; he does not like to serve, though he can act to suit his purposes.

Sima Yi fights with a large black fan, elegantly though not with much power. He is also able to use magic in combat, producing energy attacks in the form of balls to be batted with his fan or streams that move much faster.

Xiahou Dun - The One-Eyed General

Charismatic, warm, and passionate, Xiahou Dun is the cousin of Cao Cao and his right-hand man. While he is honorable and just, he is also so devoted to assisting his cousin that he will do ruthless and rash things to help him. Dun is able, devoted, and faithful, if a bit too focused. He lost his eye to an arrow in a battle, claiming that it "helped him to see how arrogant he had become."

He wields a scimitar with blunt efficiency, simply forcing his way through his opponents with little focus on anything but getting the job done.

Xiahou Yuan - The Arrogant Brother

Brother of Dun and cousin of Cao Cao, Xiahou Yuan is, like his brother, a skilled warrior and commander, though he is more arrogant and has little respect for his opponents. Still, he is generally honorable and is fiercely loyal to Wei.

He wields a large club with powerful energy, never tiring as he crushes those in his path.

Xu Zhu - The Defender Giant

Large (obese), strong, and loyal, Xu Zhu also has the mind of a child. In combat, he is a ferocious warrior, and he is devoted to serving Wei with a childlike intensity. He is close friends with Dian Wei and serves alongside him as Cao Cao's personal bodyguard.

In combat he wields a giant hammer-mace. His incredible power and reach make him formidable.

Zhang He - The Beautiful Scourge

This Wei general once served an opponent of Cao Cao, but after seeing the Wei leader's ability on the battlefield, Zhang He immediately left the side he was on to follow "Cao Cao's beauty." Effeminate and graceful, this man lives his life in the pursuit of beauty, usually in the form of battle.

Zhang He used a pair of claws in combat, and his style was a fluid and complex one that is a beauty to behold.

Heroes of Shu.

Liu Bei - Beloved King

Noble, kind, and inspirational, Liu Bei leads the forces of the Shu. He has been known to inspire people to even sacrifice their lives for him, and was willing to return the favor; he forfeited several victories in order to protect the people against Cao Cao. This man also rose from poverty to leadership, but it somewhat more naive than Cao Cao.

Fights with a long sword, his style simple and direct. His focus was not on combat, but diplomacy and command.

Guan Ping - The Young Dragon

Adopted son of Guan Yu, this young warrior was eager to prove his worth. Zealous and eager, he is known to charge into battle, yet still able to keep his head and execute missions.

He wields a halberd in a style that suggests he needs more training, but has potential to be a warrior as great as his father one day.

Guan Yu - The Sworn Tiger

Leader of Shu's Five Tiger Generals, Guan Yu was a man of massive stature and great courage. Sworn to brothership with Zhang Fei and Liu Bei, he is always willing to put his life on the line to defend his brothers - he even loses his life doing so. Though he began as their opponent, there was no bond stronger in the Dynasty Wars than theirs.

He wields a great guandao in a straightforward style, using long sweeps and stabs that result from his great range.

Huang Zhong - The Ancient General

One of the Five Tiger Generals. Huang Zhong is an old man, often using his age as a joke or reference. He is still energetic and very experienced in the ways of war. He is determined and loyal to the Shu. He defeats and kills Xiahou Yuan in a notable battle.

He wields a large broadsword in a simple and direct style, though his skill with a bow is also legendary.

Jiang Wei - He Who Was Defeated

Originally a general for Wei, Jiang Wei was convinced to switch sides when he was beaten by the man who would later become his mentor, Zhuge Liang. Distinguished and capable, it was he who would take up command of the armies of Shu after the death of Zhuge Liang.

Jiang Wei wields a trident-spear with lightning stabs and quick pierces of the enemy defense. He is adept at fighting large groups of enemies.

Ma Chao - The Warrior of Justice

Aloof from the rest of Shu, Ma Chao serves Liu Bei only because he wants to kill Cao Cao - and he's not afraid to tell that to anyone. Cao Cao killed Ma Chao's father, and the young warrior seeks only the justice to kill Cao Cao himself. Independent and strong, he is one of the Five Tiger Generals despite his young age.

His weapon is a spear, and he is an excellent horseman. Since he is used to fighting on his own, Ma Chao is very powerful and fast, though has trouble in a team setting.

Pang Tong - The Hermit Wizard

A strange and eccentric magician that is old friends with Zhuge Liang. He initially serves Wei, but this turns out to be a ploy, for at the Battle of the Red Cliffs he betrays Cao Cao and his army to a sound defeat, joining up with Shu and becoming a general. He is difficult to understand, though incredibly wise.

He uses a twisted walking stick as a weapon. His style is erratic and difficult to predict. He simply twists his body and whacks his opponents. He can also utilize minor wind magic when he attacks.

Wei Yan - Gifted but Arrogant

Rose to power quickly in the Shu army due to his talent, though he was arrogant and standoffish. In fact, he went on to lose his life (and those of his family) to one of his own allies that he constantly got into fights with. Still, a gifted commander and warrior.

Wei Yan wields a double-ended voulge. His defense and speed are poor, but his acrobatic style and high power make for a technique that is unpredictable and effective.

Zhang Fei - The Fearless Brother

Sworn brother of Liu Bei and Guan Yu. Fearless, impulsive, and loud, Zhang Fei is totally loyal to Shu and his brothers and is one of the Five Tiger Generals. First to leap into battle, he is powerful but also honorable and able to follow orders. He once held a bridge against 10,000 Wei soldiers - alone - so that Liu Bei and the citizens could escape.

Wields a double-ended spear in a whirling, slash-and-bash style with a good reach. Very, very formidable warrior.

Zhao Yun - The Young Tiger

Last of the Five Tigers, Zhao Yun is an energetic and spirited young warrior who followed Liu Bei because he admires his ideals and methods. Though smaller and faster than most of the Shu warriors, he is probably the most spirited of them all.

Zhao Yun enters the battle with a light spear. Because of his small size and lightweight weapon, his style is primarily focused on speed and movement rather than raw power.

Zhuge Liang - Crouching Dragon

Arguably the most gifted tactician of his age, he was a calm, collected, and wise man. Zhuge Liang followed Liu Bei from almost the beginning and dedicates himself to their mutual mission even after Liu Bei's death. His plans and tactics were renowned even across time for their effectiveness.

He entered battle only when necessary, wielding a white feather fan. He is also able to use magic in combat.

Heroes of Wu.

Sun Jian - The Tiger of Jiangdong

The good-humored and jokester of a leader of the original Wu forces. He was a natural leader, charismatic and humorous as well as a loving father of three. He led the forces of the Han before its fall, including Liu Bei and Cao Cao. His death remains shrouded in mystery, but before his death he defeated the mighty Lu Bu as well as setting up the groundwork of Wu for his children to carry on.

Sun Jian uses a long sword in battle with style and grace. He is, obviously, a gifted warrior. He's fast, strong, and smart.

Sun Ce - Light-Hearted Son

Oldest of Sun Jian's children, Sun Ce was the most like his father. He was good-natured and humorous as well as a great leader of men. Those loyal to his father were happy to remain loyal to Sun Ce after Sun Jian's death. He is able to easily make friends and followers. It is Sun Ce that finishes his father's work of setting up the nation of Wu. He is, sadly, killed at the start of the campaign.

Fights using a pair of tonfas. His unorthodox style is supplemented with martial arts knowledge, including kicks and bodily contact beyond his weapon.

Sun Quan - The Serious Second

Compared to his father and brother, Sun Quan was very serious and ambitious. Gone was the light-hearted playfulness, instead filled with a serious desire that pushed Wu forward in great strides. Though he was better suited as a commander than a warrior, Sun Quan was brave and strong enough to lead his people.

Sun Quan enters the battle with a longsword and a direct style. He is not as strong or fast as the other warriors, but he is rock-steady.

Sun Shang Xiang - Loving Sister

Youngest child of Sun Jian and sister to Sun Ce and Sun Quan. She is the one most opposed to war, though she supports her brothers dearly. Because she supports peace and harmony, she eventually leaves Wu to marry Liu Bei, who shares her views and reminds her of her departed brother Sun Ce.

Her weapon of choice is a pair of chakrams, though she doesn't have the defense or striking power of any of the other warriors.

Da Qiao - Elder Wife

Older of the Qiao sisters and wife of Sun Ce. She and her sister both are devoted to their husbands and work to help them in all regards. They are even known to take the battlefield to do their part.

Da Qiao favors a pair of razor-edged fans, moving like a dancer as she is light and speedy. Her attack power is comparatively low.

Gan Ning - Tiger of the Sea

Gruff, brash, rude, and headstrong, Gan Ning is the young naval master of the Wu. He does not take battles seriously and only tries to finds enjoyment in them, but he is skilled. He was once a pirate, before he was forced into a service that he betrayed to join Wu - though not before killing the father of Ling Tong. He is very cocky; he wears a string of bells around his waist to alert enemies of his presence.

Gan Ning attacks with a pair of daggers, moving quickly and with precision as he jumps from enemy to enemy, leaving a swath of dying soldiers in his wake.

Huang Gai - The Pillar

An old and experienced coot, Huang Gai has served Wu for two generations. He joins up with Sun Jian before the Yellow Turban Rebellion. He gives of his unwavering strength to help establish and maintain Wu. He is content to simply follow orders and serve.

Huang Gai smashes enemies with a giant staff. His style, predictably, is very straightforward. His defenses and attack power are above average.

Ling Tong - The Furious Flurry

Young and energetic, Ling Tong is a honest and good-natured young man, though he hates Gan Ning for killing his father. Though he follows orders, he can be somewhat lazy and downright rebellious when it comes to Gan Ning; until Gan Ning saves his life and the two become good friends.

Ling Tong is proficient at using a nunchaku with a flashy and quick style. Though his range is short, he can deal heavy damage quickly.

Lu Meng - The Oldest of the Young

Lu Meng is an extraordinary warrior: able to fight with an impersonal mindset, he does not develop anger or pride as he fights. His determination is legendary and his tactics are usually spot-on. He is willing to quietly leave the spotlight and follow orders.

Meng's weapon is a long pike. His fighting style is fierce and forceful, relying not on the weapon but on Lu Meng's own abilities.

Lu Xun - The Brilliant Boy

Lu Xun is a young, boyish-looking tactician that is adept at using the environment to his advantage. He is sharp enough to keep up with Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi. He directs Wu to many victories through his intelligence and ability.

He fights with a pair of swords known as Falcon. Though he is talented, he lacks heavy hitting power. He is able to conjure minor fireballs in battle.

Taishi Ci - A Rock of Strength

A massive warrior clad in plates of armor, Taishi Ci's tremendous strength is legendary. He used to serve warlords until Sun Ce and his Wu armies invaded. He dueled Sun Ce into a draw, though the Wu forces still claimed victory. Taishi Ci expected to be executed, but Sun Ce offered him a place in Wu. Touched by Sun Ce's generosity, Taishi Ci decided to dedicate his life to serving the Sun family. He eventually loses his life defending Sun Quan.

Taishi Ci smashes enemies with twin clubs. Despite his plate armor and heavy double weapons, Taishi Ci moves relatively fast and hits like a ton of bricks.

Xiao Qiao - Younger Qiao

The younger of the two Qiao sisters, she's married to Zhou Yu. While she is also devoted to her husband, she is less mature and more reckless than her sister. Other than that, she shares many similarities with Da Qiao.

Also wields bladed fans, though with her psychic powers instead of her own hands. Ideally suited for crowd control.

Zhou Tai - Quiet and Strong

Towering over the other warriors, Zhou Tai is one of the earliest generals of Wu. He saves Sun Quan's life more than once, and still remains silent and a bastion of strength. When he does speak, though soft as it is, people listen, for Zhou Tai knows his way around the battlefield.

He apparently practices Battojutsu, as he keeps his katana sheathed except for the instant that he attacks. His graceful strikes and swift strokes are perfect for dispatching single enemies.

Zhou Yu - Pretty Boy

Definitely a beautiful man, Zhou Yu is also a wondrous tactician and sworn brother to Sun Ce. He was important in both setting up Wu and keeping it afloat after the death of Sun Ce. He is humble and devoted to the Wu. It was his idea that won the day for them at the Battle of the Red Cliffs.

Zhou Yu fights in a wispy, swashbuckling style with his long, slightly curved blade. His style is unique, quick, and excellent in defense, though he doesn't hit as hard as he could.
