I'm new to this and was wondering if anyone know of a good website or book for Symbol Magick?

My interests are mainly to project protection, luck and the like.

A lot of "symbol magic" is tied to specific cultures/paths, so it would really depend what your current path is. Often times using symbols outside of their actual context is not a good idea.

Is there something specific that interests you, or that relates to your current path?

My main interests is purely to send protection, strength, courage, love and the like to loved ones that are not nearby. Sort of a personal talisman if you will.

I have read something about this a long time ago. Not even sure if it's called Symbol magic but it involved writing certain symbols pertaining to protection, etc. in a spell/charm by commencing with the pentagram, including your symbols and then encircling it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. sweatdrop

You may mean sigil... Look at hedge wizard in the academy...

It is a symbol made of runes that spell the name of you. It is personal and full of personal powers.

I was thinking more if you are drawn to a particular culture, or a particular pagan path?

For example some of what you might be seeking can be found in working with Runes, however Runes are closely tied to the Norse culture/pantheon, and to work with them without having a good understanding of that culture and/or a working relationship with the Norse Gods (Odinn in particular) is risky at best.

To Too2sweet...No. I'm not necessarily drawn to a certain path. From my understanding, different symbols be it Runes or Alchemical or even astrological could be used.
I can be wrong and only the runic alphabet is used. I'm new to this and was drawn to the idea and wanted to learn more about it.

To Zabazor...I will check that out. Thanks

Each of those things, are from a particular "system" of magic (for lack of a better term), and should not be used outside of that system. So if there is certain set of symbols that interest you, then it would be a good idea to learn more about the "system" that they come from.

Still using Runes as an example - they are not just an alphabet, they are a very powerful form of magic. Making a Sigil (as described in that thread), without knowing and understanding the Runes themselves, is frankly a bit scary.
