You were never living a good life, unless you had already begun to fight a good fight. Sometimes that fight began the day you were born, and spanned your entire life. In the center of a strange world, Mable could never quite say why life enjoyed throwing hurtles her way, but every day that she pulled away from a potential break down was another day that proved to her heart really could withstand it all.

She chose the beautiful things in life. Light. Love. Laughter.

Not that she was doing too much laughing these days, except for at herself.

Winter had long since begun, and the prestige of it was not lost on her. Something pure had always dwindled in her mind at the sight of lighter colors, particularly the white of snow. But despite the small jovial smiles it gifted her, it did little to ease her empty heart. A mother long gone, a father never known, a sister that seemed to detest her very existence, children that had long since left her, and a male she loved which had seemed to fade from her with the morning's true light.

Yes, the snow reminded her of the purities of the world. But it also reminded her that she was very much alone in such a cold, clear world.

More often than he'd like to admit Trystan found himself considerably preoccupied with the case of a seer named Meskeet. He'd known her since childhood, albeit her short stay with the pack involved her running with all his siblings, whom made it a goal to torment him. But everyone had come a long way since then. Well, he had. Maybe the others hadn't really changed too much.

Loneliness was a concept not lost on the male. The runt of his litter, and the only kindred spirit, it was no surprise that all fifteen of his brothers, and even his lone sister, had decided he was the sole target of any disgruntling schemes.

Although with age and realization, he had successful separated himself from the victim he'd once been, shedding even his birth name, Abastken. He had needed an entire change of being in order to stand among his own brothers, and even above them in some instances.

It had taken him some time, but he'd learned to straighten out the misfortunes of his life, and had even spent years righting his brothers' wrongs. But Meskeet was of no relation to him. So her twisted nature had forever puzzled him. Particularly when one compared her to her sister, Mable, whom he had always avoided out of shame.

Padding through snow clumps Trystan didn't even blink as a snow dripped upon his head from the branches he brushed past. It seemed so strange to him that of all the places in this vast world, Xipetotec, Cizin, and even he had all been drawn to the one place Meskeet was.

Was she up to something, or was life just fate oriented?

Sora could have taken away this pain. He could have taken away all the snow, all the ice, and all the numbness of reality. He was ever the almighty. A creature she had felt so blessed to have, he must surely have been imaginary. Maybe he had never really been there at all, but was simply something her own mind had cooked up to cure her lovesick heart. But a wandering imagination didn't lead to children, tangible children, and those were what she had once had.

Once. Once, of course, being past tense.

As a babe she had wondered at her mother's ability to give Meskeet up. How could she have so easily carried her own flesh and blood off? Away from her den, away from the heat and love she showered Mable with. Away into the night, to leave her off in the cold of winter months long passed. Off to die.

When she had become a mother herself, she knew she could never bare to part with any of her children. A corner of her soul lived in each of them. To break that up, why, it would be the worst form of suicide. But that didn't stop them, didn't stop them all from wandering from her. All but Hanley, and she was sure by now that even he had dismissed her from his thoughts.

Stumbling closer to what she hoped was the direction of shelter, Mable amused herself with her failed past, to distract her from her most recent failure. While accompanying the charming female Nelos, whom had once lived in the same pack as Sora, the two had been taken against their will by two fiendish wolves. Mable's frailty quickly fell her from their graces. Casting her off one night, they hastily departed with a most upset Nelos. She had allowed them to kidnap her own friend. She was witness to the entire act, and powerless to prevent it. What other downfalls would she bring about?

It was better not to think of these things. Not until she found someone to tell, some way to make a difference for Nelos. To find and question those two strangers. A blue male, and his gray sister.

Foot catching upon something that had been hidden from view, the female pitched forward in surprise and let out a yelp of fear before she found herself slamming head first into snow. At least it was soft, she whimpered to herself in dismay.

With a restlessness that was hard to sustain, the red male found himself prone to wandering when in bouts of confusion. He had decided to go away for the time being, but not to give up. There was an answer to every question, a doorway to every closed opportunity. Any connections or meanings that were meant to be drawn, he would come across with time. After all, what was meant to be was meant to be. He was not one to deny otherworldly intentions.

Whatever business the earthen pelted female had, it would surely wait until his return. In the mean time, he was certain Lestat was doing just fine in maintaining their ram-shackle pack. It was truly something pulled from ruins, and would be no small task to restore. The addition of Lestat's daughters would surely help him to push forward, even as he dwindled day and night over the absence of his mate, Nelos.

She was a female he himself had never met, although her existence was something he had often guessed at with the way Lestat behaved. It was not often that a male would leave the safety of a well established pack and his own lover in order to ensure that she would forever be safe from his cunning mother. Lestat was not blind to Meskeet's nature, and he had seemed utterly compelled to keep it away from Nelos.

For all the good it had done him. It was obvious to all who knew the make-shift alpha that he felt himself the one to blame for her disappearance. 'If only he had over thrown Xipetotec sooner.' 'If only he had let her come.' So many if onlys, and so few comforts Trystan could offer him.

It seemed to him that the only real hope Lestat had of finding her was in bargaining the information from the mother he had so long sought to protect Nelos from. Life was ironic, at best.

A sudden sound snapped him from his mournful thoughts. The sharp yelp cut clearly through the fresh air. Startled, he lept in its direction, not entirely sure where he should be looking. The flight of birds towards him assured him that he was at least in the right general area. As far as north, east, south and west were concerned. A whimper tickled his ears, though too faint for him to actually make anything out.

"Are you quite alright?" He shouted, just as a lump in the snow caught his attention, a lump which surely was not of the right colors to blend in.
