Fuego grumbled in a grouchy fashion, as he hoisted Codi up higher, holding him in a line that pretty much stretched for blocks. The line was into the free clinic, where he was going to have his little Wasp examined for anything serious. Ever since that run-in with Gray last week, Codi had been listless and mostly morose. Not the usual state for the child. Fuego had started to worry, when the wasp refused to play with any toys, and just sat there in the middle of the room. As far as the Fire Arrikanez saw it.. Codi was probably sick with something. He couldn't think of any other reason for his energetic little baby to be so lifeless. Codi wasn't really all the worried, though. He was calm - if maybe TOO calm - looking around at the rest of the people in the line, and wondering where they were. He could talk now. Just a little. Single words here and there to let Fuego know what he wanted.
This line was Bureaucracy at its finest. Paperwork, run-arounds, and all SORTS of wonderful distractions to get to the doctor. Fuego was contemplating just asking Dragon for a loan to get Codi looked at. This free clinic was almost not even worth it.

Martin walked along slowly with his Ama, holding her hand as the little old lady walked along. She was spry for a woman of her age, but still had to take things easy now and then. The little blonde was rather out of place next to the woman, with her dark wrinkled skin and short salt-and-peppery curls. Yet, as far as he knew, she was his Ama, which was perfectly good.
"My, what a line." the woman said, stopping and staring at all of the people. The free clinic had so many lines these days, what with flu season on the way, but the building was rather far for Ama, with her vision going, to spot, so she really didn't realize what it was for. Martin watched it slowly, his wide blue eyes taking in the many people and wondering what they were waiting for - he was too young to know what a free clinic was, after all and Ama hadn't said what the line was from, just that there was one.
"Excuse me, young man, what might this line be to?" she inquired of Fuego, peering at him and smiling her usual slightly weak smile. Martin grinned brightly, waving up at Codi, as this was the first person his size the boy had ever seen.

Codi blinked down at the boy waving up to him, and instantly seemed to cheer up, although he didn't have near as much energy as he generally did. He waved from his safe perch in his father's arms.
"Hi!" he said. Just a single word. He wasn't that good at speaking as of yet.
Fuego looked up as his child spoke, then down to the blonde child, then up to the grandmother. He gave his best reassuring smile. Practiced over long years of trying to cope with loss. Both of job and person.
"This is the line to the free clinic." He explained. "My little Codi isn't feeling too well, and I don't currently have insurance, so I was going to get him checked out here... Once I actually get INTO the place."

Martin smiled back proudly, "Hi" he repeated, looking up at the other child brightly.
"Ah. Yes. Many colds. All over. Lotsa sick people. Oh dear." the elderly woman agreed, reaching down to pat Martin. "My daughter studies to be a nurse. Good woman. Took Martin for shots at the store."

Fuego nodded, giving the woman another smile. "I should have done that, then. I'll bet they'll diagnose there, too. But I'm already in this line, I may as well wait it out..."
Codi squirmed and wriggled so much so that Fuego let him down, keeping a close eye on him. The child stopped in front of the other boy, and looked him over, wide eyes taking in everything. He seemed nice! Maybe he wanted to be friends?
"Play?" he asked, canting his head to one side.

Martin smiled and nodded emphatically. "Play." he echoed again.
Ama smiled brightly and released the boy's hand to clap her own wrinkled ones a bit. "ooh, what fun. Marteen, you have made a friend!"

Codi gave a giggle, and grabbed Martin's hand, swinging it lightly. Seems he'd taken a shine to the boy. Fuego sighed.
"Well... in the light of him having made a friend...." He glanced again at the line. "I'll wait through this and make an appointment. Codi - do you want to go play with your friend?"
The wasp-child's head nodded up and down and up and down. "Yes!"
"Well that settles it." He looked at the grandmother. "Would you be so kind as to watch Codi for me, until I make an appointment for him? It shouldn't be more than an hour or so..."

The woman nodded, her little eyes crinkling as she did. "Sure I'll keep an eye on your little dear." she assured him. After all, they were small, and children were simpler to care for at that age.
Martin grinned. "Play?" he repeated once more, bouncing on the balls of his feet.

Codi nodded again, and forwent the whole answering thing, in favor of leaning forward very fast, and tapping the other boy's arm. "Tag!"
With that, he ran off, toward the park, as fast as he could go, pretty much ignoring Fuego calling after him.
"You be careful! Don't run into the street! AND WATCH OUT FOR BEES!" The man sighed and shook his head. "Kids... oy."
Codi was having too much fun now. It had been a long while since he'd been able to run around like this with another boy. He didn't have any brothers, and all of his cousins were so much older than him that they found it beneath them to play with him. He giggled, and ducked behind a tree, waiting for Martin to catch up.

Martin grinned, chasing after the other boy, sprinting along the streets. Ama laughed as she watched them, walking slowly after the pair. They were young, they'd be fine. Then again, in her generation, there'd always been far fewer things to hurt kids too.
The blonde boy eventually managed to find the tree and poked Codi. "Tag!"
