He ran, hooves thundering against the hard, dry earth. No matter how fast he ran, though, he couldn't escape, nor could he forget. Never. The tiny skull he bore on his back and the curse placed upon him would forever guarantee him of that. A punishment endured for something that was not his fault.

He remembered now, even as he ran. It had been a warm spring day when it happened. He carried the child on his back, her echoes oflaughter almost as pleasing to his ears as the sound of birds. He had adored the girl, the child of his master. Never would he have done harm to her.

There were times, however, when fate seemed to have other thoughts in mind. He had heard the rattling of the tail seconds before the snake struck. Rearing at the last second, he dodged the deadly attack, letting out a loud whinny of warning for the child to hold on tight. As his hooves crashed down onto the head of the snake, so did the girl. She had slipped from his back, striking her head on the rocks below. Death was instant.

His heart was heavy from what had happened, but the following events had served to make himself feel worse. He had been blamed, for everything. Spat at, shunned, and cursed, Deimos had been made to live with the constant reminder of his 'deed'. The child's skull was tied to his back, simply one part of a permanent reminder.

It was the curse that had condemned him to the pits of hell. He, who had once held the gentlest of souls. He, who would never harm another. He who had once been called friend, protector, brother. He had been sent to eternal torture. He had been damned.

He snorted, clearing himself of those wretched thoughts as he ran faster. He was now once more among the living. Though he knew not what this new 'life' would bring him, he knew one thing for certain. He would have his revenge.

Thanos found himself wandering away from his herd once more. Only this time it wasn't in an attempt to recover a lost memory. No this time he knew exactly what was on his mind. Regret and the news she had shared with him not that long ago. She was pregnant and he was to be a father. The idea was still new to him, and by some miracle he had remembered it. Perhaps it was Regrets constant mentioning of it, or it could be something more like how he always managed to remember Regret. Something about her always made her name and face stick in his mind, perhaps by being attached to Regrets memory he was able to remember about the future foals. The idea of being a father was still something he wasn't quite ready to accept, he had work to do and he had no idea how foals would fit into the mix of battles. From what he was told by his rats foals were small and weak and needed attention for the first part of their lives. He didn't have time to stay around and watch over weak things, he was supposed to be ridding this world of the weak, not adding more to it.

He shook his head and continued on, thoughts still on Regret and his future spawn. He hadn't wanted to leave her alone to wander, so Thanos had instructed Rowan to look after the mare while he was gone. Surely he would do whatever bidding Regret had. If not, then there would be hell to pay when he returned, no one would ever hurt his Regret.

"Where are we headed?" Peace asked the stallion, knowing that he was still trying to adjust to the idea of being a father.

"Wherever we are going I hope we can kill something!"

"I don't know where we are going." He responded after a few moments. Did it really matter where he was headed right now? There were things to think on and he had no intention of seeking out other things to do until he had dealt with these thoughts.

He slowed his run to a trot, moving to the river nearby for a drink. He shook violently, one more futile attempt to rid himself of the skull. He snorted in annoyance as he knelt for a drink. As the cool spring water passed through his lips, he pondered at something else. He had yet to run into any other members of the Hell Herd. Well, saying other members was inaccurate, as he was hardly a member himself. He had only found that their escape had proved most opportunistic for his own.

Fatherhood, that thought kept bashing it's way into his mind even if he tried to forget it. It didn't help that each time he thought of Regret it would turn into thinking about the foals she would soon have. Well at least he didn't have to worry about her wandering off now, she had decided to stay closer to where the herd lived and he was glad to for that. It was so bothersome to constantly go out looking for her, even with Rowans help. He shook his head again and glanced around to see how far he had ventured so far. Well the mountain was still in view so he was not far out of the herds boundaries.

His eyes moved forward again and he continued on. Soon he spotted a flash of black and white up ahead. Probably another damn perfect horse he thought. Another horse that his herd would need to wipe away from this land. Damn there were so many, good thing they had all the time in the world to deal with them.

"Quick there goes on, let's kill it!" War cried out.
"We don't even know if it was a horse or not."
"It was a horse! And it needs to die!"

"Well whatever it is let's go find out where it is going. Maybe we can find out where some other herds are so we can easily target them once we start to move." Thanos picked up his pace to a fast trot and headed in the direction of...well whatever it was that he had seen. It didn't take him long to catch up to it. Spotting the now horse at a nearby spring he continued forward, his eyes spotting something small on it's back.

With his ears pricking forward at the sound of approaching hooves, Deimos lifted his head, watching Thanos approach. He, of course, recognized the leader of the Hell Herd immediately. He doubted that was something Thanos could return. He moved back from the water, standing tall. "Greetings, Thanos."

Thanos slowed his pace a bit as he got closer. He didn't recognize this horse, but that wasn't saying much given his horrible memory. His eyes settled upon the small thing strapped to the horses back. What exactly was it? Coming to a stop a good distance from the other stallion his head tipped to the side as he inspected him closer. Then when the horse said hello to him Thanos' ears pinned back. "How do you know my name?"

"He is not one of ours, I'm sure of it. We should kill him!"
"No he isn't one of ours. And yet I could swear I have seen him before. Though not in this land." Peace spoke up.

"We have met before." He said, paying no attention to either Thanos' pinned back ears, or his underlying aggression. "In the very depths of hell where we were both prisoners for so long. I must admit, though, you were there far longer than I." He shook again. It had become an annoying habit of his, but if it would one day succeed in removing the skull, then it was worth it.

"You see," He said, continuing on without missing a beat, "While I was never counted as one of your herd, I would linger close enough to understand what you had planned, far enough away to remain unnoticed. When you and the others left, I followed. I had realized it would be only a matter of time before we met out here, face to face."

"This is what I warned you about!" War chirped. "He will try to take the herd from you!"
"We don't know that." Peace retorted.

Thanos' eyes narrowed a bit as the stallion spoke. So he had taken advantage off his herds strength in breaking through the Hell barrier just so that he too could get out. He wasn't sure if he wanted to kill the stallion for that or be happy over his obvious ingenious ways. His eyes once again moved to the thing on the horses back. "What is that?" He motioned towards it with his nose. After a few moments pause he spoke again. "So you followed my herd out of Hell huh? Why?"

"That," He said, turning his head back as best he could to see the damn thing, "Is my curse, and the reason I was in hell to begin with." He drew a breath and exhaled slowly. "This tiny skull once belonged to the daughter of my human master. I caused her death while trying to save her life. As punishment I was doomed to carry her on my back for eternity, and cursed to Hell in my afterlife."

He turned back, meeting Thanos' decayed face with an even gaze. "Her death was not my fault. She slipped from my back as I moved to destroy a rattlesnake. My intent was to save her... not to harm her. Of course the humans could never understand that." He snorted as he said the word human. "Naturally, I felt my fate was undeserved, so your journey to the land of the living was most opportunistic, as I said. It also may grant me a chance at revenge. Perhaps not on the one who did this to me, but to someone. Humans are all the same. I care not who suffers."

Thanos bobbed his head as he listened to the other stallion spoke. Truthfully he wasn't listening all that much. He didn't care to hear the stallions story cause he knew in the end he would just forget it. That was until he heard the word revenge and his ears perked up. Oh so he wanted revenge on those who wronged him. Well that could be a good thing...in a matter of speaking. "So, you wish to cause pain and suffering on these humans then? What about other horses?"

"You aren't thinking of letting him join us are you?"
"Why not, isn't that what the herd needs, more like minded horses."

"He will try to take control I just know it."

Thanos gave his mane a shake to silence the two rats. If this stallion was indeed hate filled he may be a good asset to the herd. But he would need to prove himself loyal before anything truly happened. But he would await the others answer first off before thinking too much on the subject.

He snorted, shaking once more. It had truly become an annoyance of a habit, but he wanted the little... thing... gone. "Humans. They should have been the ones rotting in hell. Not us." Clearly, Deimos would have no issues at all with taking his revenge on humans... any human. They were all alike, after all.

Thanos' second question caused him to falter. He had never had any grudges against another horse. However, there were some who would certainly remain lovers of the two leggers. "Assuming you mean any foolish enough to oppose you? Or any foolish enough to side with the... humans?" The tone of his voice dripped with disdain when he spoke.

Deimos turned, evenly meeting his gaze with that of Thanos', despite coming eye to eye with an empty socket. "I wouldn't have a problem with that at all."
