What did Moghedien mean? "You have a lot to learn," she said. So what did that entail? Being another guardian to the alpha? Did that mean she'd have to learn how to fight? The thought was so nasty, though . . . Blood. Ew. Like she could fight at all, a slender female whose size didn't boast much at all at this point! Or maybe . . .
Maybe a spy? That would be so much more fun! And dangerous. Or perhaps this was the way to learn how to become a Lady of the Court? The youth paced about near the rocky outcroppings which led to the dens, frowning in thought. Ever since meeting with Moghedien, Gabrielle had been preparing herself for the day when this mysterious guardian of hers would show up. Though now of course her impatience was beginning to settle in, her tail twitching side to side at various intervals. She swore that if this wolf did not come to her soon, she'd forsake waiting for him and go visit the newly delivered puppies; and that thought cheered her up a bit.

The large wolf made his way from his usual den and towards where the female she was supposed to met. He was rather intimidating as he moved, well built, muscular form with small scars on his maw showing that he had been in a battle or two in his life time.
Moghedien was very insistant that he team up with this female, to show her the ways of what he always knew.
Information was the single most important thing in the world. Information could get anything for any wolf. One needed to have a keen ear, a good eye and enough strength to get out of trouble if they got caught. The strength doubled as a good way to intimadate anyone who held that important informaton.
His information for Mog was what brought him so close to her. Even though he was mearly the small wolf's protector and informant, he still felt that he was highly valued by the ghostly coloured femme.
Finally his paws brought him to where the small female was waiting. Another tiny girl, though by now he was used to them. "Are you Gabrielle?"

"Hmm?" She turned at the voice and for a moment was about to make a snappy comment on how there were very little wolves named Gabrielle and certainly not one that looked like her in this pack, but decided against it; perhaps if he had been a little more ugly, she might not have had such restraint. And he just had to appear when Gabby had decided to go visit the pups! God. Bigger than her or not, the adolescent still retained some of her attitude. "Yup. Who're you again?" she asked, scrutinizing him. He looked vaguely familiar . . . "You're . . . not the one that works with Moghedien, are you?"
If so . . . crap. She had almost sassed the alpha's informant, which would not make good first impressions.

"Damon," He bowed his head in a respectful way. There were plenty of ways to greet others, keeping things light and friendly at first were a good idea. Though it was difficult to do with a youth--they were definatly highstrung and unable to calm.
"Yes. Moghedien is My Mistress." He thought highly of the light coloured femme. Her recent position of Alpha made his duties even more important. There were plenty of jealous females who had wanted to impress the King and take their place at his side. Moghedien was just smart enough to out-wit them all. He was very proud.
Though he was also quite proud of himself. Mog trusted him with training this little femme--the King trusted Mog with her decisions. That meant indirectly, he was being given praise from both. He would not disappoint them. He would work hard to train Gabrielle in any way he could.
"We have much to work on, Gabrielle. Are you ready to work hard?"

Aaah, then it was good she hadn't decided to speak her mind before introductions. But . . . his word choicing was interesting. "Much to work on"? As if what she was wasn't good enough? Mmmf, she was never good enough apparently . . . But she bit her tongue back amd merely nodded. "As I told the Goblin King, I'm willing to work hard," Gabrielle said, then added as an afterthought, "sir." She guessed she'd need to call Damon as such, no? "It's just that I don't have a lot of training in . . . much of anything right now? I've run semi-border patrols, though." And met some rather interesting characters, the latest being that fanged male; but she shrugged the thought away.
"I just don't want to be sitting around doing nothing," Gabby went on truthfully. After all, sitting about idly only mae her think too much, and since thoughts tended to stray towards males and love and families, all three of which were practically denied to her so far, well . . . of course the adolescent didn't want to think but act instead. The fact that Moghedien had taken an interest at all was, hopefully, the sign of a new beginning for Gabrielle.

"It is quite smart for you to realize that wasting time is wasting life." Damon stated. "I do not doubt that we can form an adiquate team and please both the King and My Mistress." A small smile tugged onto his maw then, attempting to show that he wasn't just a hard a** who wanted to work every moment of the day.
Work was just what he was used to. Ever since he was put in charge of keeping Mog safe as a young one, he had never stopped being concerned for her in all ways.
"You look like the type that would be quick and light, unlike myself. I tend to go with the brawn." He was quite large for a wolf, one of the many reasons he was the chosen one to protect the new Queen. "The most important thing to remember is that we live to serve. We must please both the King and My Mistress by gathering information, protecting them and doing our duties. All other parts of life come after that."

What was this, a review of everything she had ever known ever? She had been born almost instinctively knowing that she'd have to spend every day proving herself, one of a clutch of b*****d children left by their no-good father and raised by a half-crazed mother. It was a wonder that Gabrielle had turned out as she had at all, and alarger one that she had remained so optimistic up until now. Now . . . now, that warm optimism was beginning to fade, much as she tried to clutch at it, replaced with colder determination. It didn't feel right as much as it did feel appropriate; just not her for some reason.
But Gabby bowed her head anyway in a nod. "Yes, sir. I take after my mother, I'm told, at least in build." She was the most like her father out of all of them in fur color; no wonder Liriel hardly wanted to see her. "So then we're like spies, gathering information from other packs from under their noses? Or are we emmissaries like the Lords and Ladies?"

"We are many things, Gabrielle. We are spies that sneak through the forrest, we are ghosts with open ears but no one to sight us. We are emissaries that keep all valuable information to ourselves until the time comes. We protect and we gather information."
He glanced past her, staring out at the grounds that they both had called home for a while. His head shook a little before he stared back into her eyes. "You must always be listening. Your ears need to be ten times more keen than any other senses that you usually rely on. You will come to find that many wolves offer information subconciously, that they would probably prefer to keep to themselves."
Damon leaned forward to sniff lightly at the female before nodding his head. "You will be quite good for this, but you must work on your charm. Females have an advantage of seduction. Trickery, the ability to play with a male's mind and heart."

Always listening . . . Come to think of it, that was how she was first introduced to Moghedien, with the queen eavesdropping on her rather revealing rant to herself - Damon had taught her well alright! Or maybe Gabby had been too deep in thought . . . Either way, this Damon seemed to possess skills she needed to learn, just as Mog had said. On the subject of charm, though, the adolescent looked away with a tiny shrug, trying to sound casual. "Maybe, but it isn't something I have a lot of practice in. The males here are . . . unique and aloof." And frankly she was downright uncomfortable with it; she still remembered the occassion of nearly being cornered by Geki and Freki one random afternoon. What if she ended up giving too much of herself just for the sake of information?
Bitter as she might have been on occassions, Gabrielle still entertained the notion that one day a male would sweep her off her paws, and that she should save herself for that day.
But . . . If I become adept enough, I can just use charm and nothing more, she reasoned with herself, and turned back to face Damon with another nod. "Please, sir, teach me what you know. I won't give up until my skills have meaning to the alphas, I swear it!"

An approving nod was given. This female would be very benifical to all of them if he did well enough with her. It was his job and he would take it very seriously. "Yes.. unique would be a good choice of words for these males." There was an amused look on his face then, but he quickly removed it and instead gave the pup another good looking over.
"I will teach you what I know and I will protect you until the day that you are able to do so yourself." His head bowed just a little. "You will serve our alphas well and bring pride to both me and your family with what you have learned. Now let's get a move on, shall we?"
The dark coloured male lifted himself to a standing position and turned, stepping away and expecting the bundle to follow him.

Teaching, yes, but protect even? She shouldn't have been surprised; this was the wolf who had accompanied and kept counsel with Moghedien after all, and who knew how long those two had been together before entering The Reign of Terror. Yet still, the idea was foreign to the young adolescent that even for a second someone would think of her safety. It was usually an eat-or-be-eaten sort of world in the pack, and her mother was not exactly a maternal sort; and with her siblings doing as they pleased and a father long gone, there wasn't much to be expected of others. In fact, Gabrielle herself was more of a defender for her good friend Kerai, even if he was a slave.
So as she followed Damon with a nod, she couldn't help but feel her spirit being lifted a little. Even if it was just because to let her die would make the lessons a moot point, it was still some form of caring, yes? And that was something she could cling to. "As a spy, you haven't had to, um . . . kill anyone, have you?" she asked after a while of walking.
