"Am I even able to be this way Father...? Can this happen to one like me...?" Mahatma sat atop a grassy hill, his yellow eyes focused on the night sky as if he'd receive an answer. As he'd grown up his Mother had drilled the belief that he was a creature who nobody could love into his mind and heart. Though deep down he fought that, it felt strange, and now after meeting Ai and feeling what he felt now he questions everything he'd known. His Father had passed on before the drilling had happened, and so he had no guidance as far as many emotions went. He knew every emotion there was, how could he not? The many thousands of spirits that sought his protection or others that went through him brought ranging emotions. At one point or other he'd felt every emotion at least once, but most were never his own. And now he felt love, and it was his.

From a distance Ai saw the form of a lone water lion alone on a hill, squinting she saw it was her friend. With a big smile Ai began running toward h the spirit collector. "Mahatma!" Ai called happily running up the hill She'd left Kenna behind to find her friend. Though hopefully Kenna wouldn't be to angry with her. She'd been rather upset the last few time she came and found her friend though Ai couldn't figure out why and Kenna wouldn't tell her.

Mahatma's ears perked up when he caught the sound of somebody approuching, his head turning to see who it was. His currently glowing yellow eyes focused on Ai and he felt himself tense up, though he offered the usual smile. A few spirits floated over to her though he remained sitting. It was very hard to tell what he felt at different times, but it was rather obvious he was feeling some sort of irritation or pain. But regardless, he was exceedingly happy to see her again. Finally he stood and padded over, keeping the usual few feet of distance as the glow disperssed. "Ai...wonderful to see you again..."

"Hello again." she smiled at the spirits greeting them as well. The spirits that floated toward her mimicked Mahatma's irritation, she looked at him confused for a moment "What's wrong?" she asked he did look happy to see her but there was something different this time. The spirits flicked a little more than usual and their normal golden color seemed to be off.
"It's wonderful to see you again too Mahatma." she smiled brightly.

His smiled seemed to glow when she said she was happy to see him. He felt warmth circle his normally closed off heart, and while this was so new to him he loved it. "I have been thinking Ai and...I l..." Mahatma stopped himself short. Doubts hit him like a blow to the head. She was the only lioness to treat him so wonderfully. She was so innocent and pure, loving and kind. He couldn't bear to lose her now. Even if it meant remaining friends.
A sadness sank into his features though still he smiled. "That is...I looked forward to showing you this spot...and the moon is at it's fullest this eve...it's beautiful..."

Ai tilted her head "Yes?" she asked with a flick of her long tail. Ai loved everyone, and believed only good things about the world around her she had seen nothing but the best of it. Ai sat intently trying to figure out what he meant when he cut himself off. Ai's ears sank when he switched topics.
She felt something tug on her heart. Why wouldn't he say what she really wanted to hear? but then again, Ai wasn't sure what it was exactly she wanted to hear.
"I can't wait to see it." she smiled

The moment Mahatma saw her ears droop he knew he'd made a mistake. Looking away he bit his lip hard, then slowly padded closer until his muzzle was inches from hers. It was a big thing since he'd never walked that close to her. She had walked to him, but never the other way. Now his eyes began glowing. "Ai...I stopped what I was saying because...I don't feel...worthy of you...My Mother made it known that I am a sort of monster but...it can't change the fact that I...love you..." He was shocked at himself, but nuzzled her cheek.

She gave him a soft nuzzle back. Perhaps that was what she had truly wanted to hear from him. Some where there was a difference of love for the world around her and The lion in front of her. Ai sat on her haunches and grabbed his Paw and smiled brightly. before closing her eyes and placing her other paw onto of his "But I have never seen you as a monster." she said simply "Nor should you care what your mother thinks, you should care only what I think of you."
Ai paused for only a moment before opening her eyes smiling tenderly back at him. "I love you too,"

"I'm...so happy Ai..." Gently he pulled her into his paws, just wanting to feel her next to him to know he wasn't dreaming. The happiness that filled him now, his eyes and the lantern atop his head shone so brightly. The spirits circled around both of them in a manner that showed joy, their colors shimmering. "I want to see your beautiful smile everyday..."

The spirits shimmered like bright shining fire that danced around the pair. It was absolutely beautiful in the lioness's eyes. "I am too." She smiled and embraced him too. This love was definitely different from what she had felt prior. Even her love for Kenna was different.
Ai Smiled brightly "Then you shall see it every day." she answered happily.
from a nearby hill hidden by the shadows and trees the light blue lioness watched with sad eyes. No longer would she need to protect that one she held dearest... Tears welled up in her eyes and she fled from the scene.

Mahatma pulled back and gave Ai a real, happy smile. She was the first to see him smile of his own free will, one that wasn't forced. Without a second thought he licked her cheek, then pulled her into another embrace. "What do we do now...? Fine a home...travel...swim..?" He chuckled as he finished the sentence, batting at her ears before dashing toward the water.
