As the name implies, this forum is serious business. The politeness rules from the main z!CB thread are more tightly enforced here.
- Politeness Policy
Posters need to respect other members' opinions and personal differences. You don't have to like everyone, but don't be mean. And remember - nobody's perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Treat others how you would want them to treat you, basically. This further extends to a complete prohibition on attacks on other Guilds and Clans. This rule is an extension of GaiaOnline's existing rules regarding Trolling and Abuse.
Additional rules that apply in the Serious Discussion Sub-Forum are as follows.
- Disagreeing vs Attacking
Merely disagreeing with your point of view doesn't constitute a personal attack, and so you shouldn't let it hurt you. If however, swear-words or abusive language is introduced, then the debate has passed into the realm of attacking. This is not permitted within the Serious Discussion Subforum.
Learn to Agree to Disagree
Should the debate become heated to the point where the above rule applies, consider letting the subject drop and accepting that the opponent will not relent on their view point, regardless of how flawless your own logic is.
Rationality
A debate requires that you listen to your opponents arguments, and concede when they make sound logical points. Doing this helps prevent the breakdown of a debate into a flamewar.
Language and Word-Choice
If your thread is written in a manner which is overtly aggressive, it may be removed on grounds of trolling (see Politeness Policy). An example would be:
Bad: I hate how fags always act like chicks.
Good: Why does it seem that all gay men act like girls?
To a veteran debater, much of this is second nature. We've included it for the sake of completeness however.
